Guest guest
It could very well be the car seat. If you have a friend who could lend you a car seat from another brand (something with a good padding), it would be worth a try. I remember my son stopped crying when I switched from a Graco to a Combi. It could just have been a coincidence though, but the Combi was better padded, larger, and it was sitting higher in the car so it was easier for the baby to look through the window. Guest guest
Is she usually really active when she's out of the car seat? I wonder if she feels carsick due to the movement..is she just as fussy in the car when she hasn't just eaten? I presume it's not from sun in her eyes. Is it a new car seat, was it allowed to outgas before use? Sorry, more questions than answers. OT: 2 mo old car ride.. Posted by: " Wani " jocanas@... wani_biz Thu Sep 10, 2009 9:54 am (PDT) Hi All, My baby (2 mo old) does not like to ride in the car. I have to take a 3 hour trip (one way)this weekend and I am dreading the car ride. Even if I go to the store .. the 10 min drive she cries all the way there. If my husband is with me I sit in the back seat with her but that seems to make things worse since she sees me she cries louder.. (GET ME OUT OF HERE!) which then my husband gets upset and doesn't want to go anywhere.. As soon as I get her out of the car seat she is fine. I have tried bringing a vacuum, playing some classical music, talking to her.. and more.. but nothing seems to work.. she is fully fed and new clean diaper always before I put her in her car seat.. I am using the Graco Safe Seat right now. Do you think it is the car seat? Suggestions please.. anyone? Guest guest
Hi, Sounds like she has sensory integration issues. The vibration and noise of the car, leaning back in her car seat, having the straps on, all of those things are probably making her feel out of control. Does she like the baby swing or does she wig out? Have you tried using her car seat when she is in the house to desensitize her? Use it like her bed, put her in it all the time, have her sleep in it, move it around with her. Have you tried covering it with a blanket so she can't see the things around her ? Maybe too much stimulation. She is very young so time to start on sensory stuff now. Try deep pressure, squeezing her arms and legs gently and her head gently to wake up her nerves. Hope some of this works. It might be worth getting " The Out of Sync Child. It talks all about sensory integration dysfunction and how you can heal your child's nervous system. Good luck. ________________________________ From: Wani <jocanas@...> Wani <jocanas@...> Sent: Thursday, September 10, 2009 9:52:52 AM Subject: [ ] OT: 2 mo old car ride.. Guest guest
My son did this...he turned out to have a sensory disorder. Hopefully, that is not the case. But in all honestly, not too many babies like those seats. Does she cry in the infant seat when it's not in the car?? Try buckling her in as if you are going somewhere and see what she does. If not, then it's not the seat...it's the motion of the car. My niece is three months old now and usually screamed when we put her in the infant seat..for anything. Food, going bye, or just sitting. She has gotten used to it, but does cry a bit when we first put her in. We don't use it for anything but the car now though, no point in her sitting it in if she hates it. She's not too young for homeopathy if you are not objected to it. A homeopathist may be able to give her a remedy for motion sickness or something that might help if you see she is not crying unless the seat is in the car. The three hour car trip might be rough, but it might also help her adjust to that moving sensation in the car. Wont' be good on your ears, but I am inclined to think she will fall asleep at some point. Which probably feels odd to a baby. My niece eventually falls asleep.... jeesh I hope something helps...I know how frustrating that can be. > > Hi All, > > > > My baby (2 mo old) does not like to ride in the car. Guest guest
It could be a sensory processing problem. My 9 yo was like that when he was a baby (although at the time did not know it was a sensory issue). My dd saw an occupational therapist from the time she was a baby (she is 4 now) and it really helped with her sensory issues. > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > > > My baby (2 mo old) does not like to ride in the car. Guest guest
It could also be gastrointestinal pain. This is how you can tell, does the baby also prefer to be held in an upright position? Is the baby stiff when upright and doesn't like to sit for other things? Does the baby have explosive diarrhea/constipation? My children had these problems and if I knew then what I know now, I would have eliminated milk/casein from my diet while breastfeeding and would not have given them dairy when they were young. > > Hi All, > > > > My baby (2 mo old) does not like to ride in the car.
