Sensitivity to noise is a symptom of low adrenal function.

consider giving Adrenal Cortex extract daily to help adrenal function, this will

reduce noise/light/touch sensitivity.

Yes, Andy protocol over time will help the metals get out and the adrenals work

again.

These things went away for my child when we removed certain foods from his diet.

We also did several rounds of chelation. I know the problem foods are involved,

however, because it comes back if he gets the wrong thing!!

I honestly believe it is a yeast issue. Are you doing a yeast protocol? You

might find a new child on enzymes and a yeast protocol. JMI.

[ ] Closing ears with hands

Hi,

My 5 year old son who is placed in ASD has this problem of closing his ears

with his hands on certain sounds like Vaccum, exhaust over the cooking range,

certain songs on the TV etc..

He is really uncomfortable when any of these sounds occur and becomes really

rigid when you try to remove his hands forcibly. This problem is since the lat 3

years or so.

He is currently undergoing the MB-12 protocol through a DAN doctor. I read

somewhere that Andy Cutler protocol is helpful for this.

Any suggestions/guidance will be highly appreciated.

I know auditory integration therapy (AIT) is controversial and I'll admit

that when I tried it, I didn't really expect much, if anything........ but my

daughters hands over ears problem was so bad that I just had to give it a

go. We couldn't even drive over a certain speed because she couldn't stand

the sound of the engine. Well, I can't say it " cured autism " but boy did it

cure the hands over the ears problem. My daughter had all kinds of

hearing/sensory issues. Clapping drove her crazy, don't even think about

running a

vacuum and the list goes on. Ironically, she would turn up the TV to

blaring and get right in front of it. Well I contacted a certified AIT tech in

our state and she brought us the machine and everything we needed and it

stayed with us for many days. My daughter did 2 sessions a day with

it...morning

and night. I can't remember the number of days we did the sessions but it

was somewhere between 10 and 20 days. I knew it had done something the very

first night because my kiddo who had trouble sleeping slept TWELVE straight

hours. They had told me that it could effect her sleep and there was no

way to know which way it would go...making it better or worse, but thankfully

it was gloriously better. The benefits from the AIT was no more ear

holding, we can drive at any speed, etc. Even the TV was turned down to

completely

normal levels. The tech warned me " Don't let her wear earphones or be

around prolonged loud noises or it can undo the benefits " . Well my daughter

takes dancing classes and I just can't take them away from her because they are

so special to her life and happiness. I begged the teacher not to play the

music at the earsplitting level she does but she didn't listen and

continued to play it that loud. She said it is how she keeps the kids from

talking

to one another during class (ugh!). Well, sure enough, once she started back

to dance class at the end of the summer, one benefit was undone which was

my daughter started turning the TV back up to earsplitting levels. However

the hands over ears thing has stayed away so it was not a total loss. I have

decided that we need to get a home version of AIT were we can do " touch

ups " during the dance year as needed. If anyone has recommendations, I would

LOVE to hear.

My son also has a huge problem with this. He is incredibly improved with most

autism symptoms, but sound sensitivity is what keeps us from doing all of the

things we would like to do with him. he won't go to most sporting events and

doesn't really even want to go back to disney world because we got stuck in the

park while the fireworks were going off last time :(

When I ask groups, I get a wide range of answers...much like the response

here...yeast, food allergies, heavy metals. adrenals is a new one for me...and

very interesting...I'm pretty certain that adrenal and thyroid function are low

in me and my son. we treated for yeast...no improvement. just sent our hair

analysis away last week and have an appointment with an allergist next week.

I'm hoping to get some answers and begin treatment for the heavy metals that

will work permanently in the long run and get some ideas to alleviate the

problem in the meantime :)

Kari, our kid does this too on occasion.  Much less often than in the past. We

just did an OAT test....and he yeast levels are extremely low. For us, this is

not yeast related.

My son's sound sensitivity comes and goes.  For us, it's been parasites and

magnesium deficiency.

Good to hear that your son is doing fine on the Autism Symptoms. What treatment

did you do, I am following the MB12 protocaol along with CF diet for the lat 4

months with no improvement.

Most of this problem was eliminated with adequate yeast control here, but some

small residue did remain even after the yeast was under control. Adding a

potassium supplement did help the residue.

> He is currently undergoing the MB-12 protocol through a DAN doctor.

mB12 tends to increase yeast, so first you might try increasing the yeast

protocol, see if that helps.

The good news is, ours kind of " went " away with age and time. Like every spring

when the lawn mowers came out, walking, YIKES. Pretty soon, that would stop

over the course of the summer. My guy never had a problem with lets say church,

lots of people. But fireworks, we couldn't go that up until maybe age 7 or so.

I still covers a little bit on the big booms. He did have chronic ear

infections when little so would think sensitive. But he has great hearing and

doesn't miss a thing. In second grade he could tolerate the alarms at school

with no issues.

I consider myself to have sensitive hearing. Hate loud music for instance and

things on my ears, headsets.

He was very yeasty as a child and the outward symptoms, privates, went away with

age too. Looking back I'm sure yeast was the reason for ear issues too.

My guy today at 9.6 looks pretty typical. Hopefully over the years it will

improve for your son too.

Dana, what kind of sensitivity was it? If a girl 25yo is extremely sensitive to

low sounds what could it be? Any music from neighborhood, would drive her crazy

because of the low sound beat which normal people can't even hear.

She is GFCF. Does not seem yeast related at the moment. Could potassium

deficiency cause this kind of sensitivity?

Thanks, Galina

It can be. mB12 also helped with sound sensitivity here. I am also intrigued

by the adrenal comment, because I have not addressed adrenals in this particular

child, but I may consider that. He has very minimal sound issues remaining,

which are not affecting his daily life, but it is a possibility.

This is a major sign of adrenals. My son used to do this all the time. He had

no other adrenal signs at the time. Jan suggested ACE to me. Once we added

this in, he never did it again, unless he was sick or there was some other

stressor on his adrenals on round or whatever. We did a hair test post

chelation and sure enough he had adrenal signs.

ACE is amazing stuff. We use the 250 mg caps by Nutricology. Aside from

antifungal and antivirals which were great interventions - treating the adrenals

was a major step forward for my son. No sound/light sensitivity - less

meltdowns, happier camper overall.

Casein, gluten, soy, chocolate, MSG, artificial colors/flavors. His most

frequent food infractions are with gluten and it is then that I see the noise

sensitivity come back (especially if we don't catch it right away and give

activated charcoal). Most noticeably, he cannot stand the sound of running

water when it happens!

Can you please share dosing info? How much to start? Dosing in AM only? Etc. My

son weighs 40 lbs, and with PTSD I suspect adrenal issues. How can you tell from

the hair test? I can look at his to tell. Thanks!

Hi . I don't have Andy's book at home with me it is at my office, so I don't

have the page number in AI off hand, but there is a whole adrenals section in

there. Help me out others on the board with the page number!...Basically, I

think if sodium and potassium are down, with cal and mag up on the hair test,

this is an adrenal sign. ACE is trial and error. We started out with a quarter

capsule of the 250 mg in the am and one in the afternoon after school at 3 pm.

Over time we increased it. Now we are up to one 250 mg cap in the am, and one

250 mg cap in the pm. On round sometimes we give another half a cap around

dinner. Generally, you don't want to give this too late in the day, usually 3

pm is our cut off, (can cause hyperactivity if given too late)except on round,

when we have to be up all night anyway. As we raised up the ALA dose, we

noticed more adrenal stress - so we upped the ACE and, voila, no problems.

Our son used to hate bright lights, the wind on his face, loud noises, the whole

hands over the ears thing was an everyday occurrence. The food processor used

to send him shrieking with hands over his ears under the kitchen table. For us,

ACE was nothing short of magic. Better transitioning etc.

It is definitely worth a trial for you. Word of advice, start low and slow,

build up slowly till you get to the dose where these adrenal related behaviors

abate. One quick anecdote, the other day it was really windy and rainy where we

live. Went to pick up my son at school, all of the kids in his pre k autism

class were freaking out as they exited the school, the wind, the rain on their

faces, sensory disaster for them. My son sauntered out dancing in the puddles,

not noticing it. We are the only ones doing biomed. I felt so bad for the

other kids, thought, just a little ACE for some of these kids, and they could be

like my son, enjoying the puddles.

Hope this helps. Irene

What exactly are the adrenal signs on a hair analysis? Are you talking about

the Hair Elements from Doctor's Data? I am expecting my son's first results to

come this week and would love to know if something in there will indicate low

adrenal function.

Thanks!!!

Irene, I am so happy for you! Sounds like he is doing great! I often wonder

about my kids and I and our adrenals. Every once in awhile we get dark circles

under our eyes. Thanks for the advice, I think it's all connected

food-yeast-adrenals, etc. Good to know ACE is helping sensory issues too!

Thanks! Wow! What great progress for your son! My dh often says how heartbroken

he is for the kids that are left to suffer and how they are relying on their

families to help them, and are being lost.

I have Andy's books, so much info in them - I'll search around and find the

adrenal stuff.

I got ACE to try for myself and noticed a BIG difference. After a year of panic

attacks and insomnia and through this past year of acupuncture and therapy and

meditation to try to get a grip on it, it took 5HTP, melatonin, CoQ10, and ACE

for ME to start to feel well again. I think our kids are healing US too.

> Hi . I don't have Andy's book at home with me it is at my office, so I

don't have the page number in AI off hand, but there is a whole adrenals section

in there.

As we raised up the ALA dose, we

noticed more adrenal stress - so we upped the ACE and, voila, no problems.

whole hands over the ears thing was an everyday occurrence. The food processor

used to send him shrieking with hands over his ears under the kitchen table.

For us, ACE was nothing short of magic.

Adrenal cortex extract.

It has been pivotal here for helping with the adrenals, with symptoms like

explosive behavior, anger, irritability, sensitivity to light/sound/touch, not

being able to sleep at night, or get up in the morning, hypoglycemic symptoms.

www.stopthethyroidmadness.com has a section on adrenals " Those durn Adrenals "

it's called, which has symptoms...etc.

Mercury poisons the adrenals.

For us we have seen no negatives to using it.

had no other adrenal signs at the time. Jan suggested ACE to me. Once we added

this in, he never did it again, unless he was sick or there was some other

stressor on his adrenals on round or whatever. We did a hair test post

chelation and sure enough he had adrenal signs.

antifungal and antivirals which were great interventions - treating the adrenals

was a major step forward for my son. No sound/light sensitivity - less

meltdowns, happier camper overall.
