Guest guest
I was reading about Vitamin A in www.medscape.com. It says retinol, although can accumulate and become toxic, is less aggravating to the body to absorb. Beta-carotene, although may turn a body orangey but is not toxic, is not the better type of Vitamin A to use. It may aggravate a body who has diabetes. I suppose I would be serving you better to give you the article. I went to the website and searched; RDA vitamins and got 5 pages of articles and only some of what I wanted to read. It mentions too that research showed Vitamin E-alpha toper....was not as beneficial as a food source for Vitamin E- gamma .......... I find that interesting. Well, I am sure I have everyone's sympathy when I say I would prefer food held all of the vitamins and minerals I needed. That's why I could not understand why the government would allow irradiation....which preserves the outside of the food while allowing vitamins to deteriorate right out of the food while it aged. Who wants food without vitamins? Alright,,,,I eat lots of carbos without health but WHEN I DO EAT I want food.
Guest guest
Jan the brand I use is Carlson Vitamin A 10,000 IU from fish oil. I got it from the Vitamin Shoppe here in my city. It does have safflower oil but no soy as far as I know. The bottle says free from milk, wheat, corn, yeast, sugar, presevatives and salt. Now if this has soy I will be shocked because it doesnt state that it contains any. The site is www.vitaminshoppe.com Blessings, Carol > > Hi group, I am having a terrible time trying to find Vitamin A 10,000 IU that does not contain soybean oil. Anyone have a internet source? Guest guest
Acutally Jan here is the link http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=CL-1432 This page says it contains safflower or soybean...my bottle says safflower. I actually was at the store and read every bottle there before buying one. You may have to call them to see what a bottle says in hopes they can do that. Good luck! > > Hi group, I am having a terrible time trying to find Vitamin A 10,000 IU that does not contain soybean oil. Anyone have a internet source? Anyone have a internet source? ==>I believe NOW has one that doesn't contain soy but the stores don't necessarily stock it; ask them to call the company to find out which one to order. My aunt carries NOW brand, and she said even her catalog doesn't state whether some products contain soy or not, and so she doesn't know until it arrives. Natural Factors carries Halibut Liver Oil capsules that contain vitamin A + D, which is what I buy here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Your health store can probably order it in as well. NOW has a brand which is from Fish Oil but it still contains soy as well. I suggest you contact the Vitamin Shoppe and get them to find out whether it contains soy or not. Most oil soluble vitamin products do contain soy nowadays. It is wise to double-check. Safflower oil is not good either. Bee

Guest guest
, it is tough to find the right supplements. I'm discouraged too, and the more I learn the more discouraged I get. I wish I could advise that you do not need any supplements, but the most important ones are oil soluble. Vitamin A seems to be the most difficult one to buy. It doesn't say where it comes from. I guess I just assumed that it was OK because it was " free " of all the usual suspects. Luckily, the dry-base vitamin E that I got specifically says that it's from a 100% natural source (not the dl- garbage.) The A & D thing seems to be the only place that I " messed up " . Otherwise, I've done pretty well. I've been making do with what I've had around because I haven't been in a position to buy supplements, but when I started running out of stuff that needed replacing (and came into a little extra money), I thought that'd be the best time to try and track down all the supplements. We'll see what kind of improvement I find. Thanks, Bee! in IN

Guest guest
Olif, I got into natural health and healing when I was in my early 20's and now I'm 54. I've used hundreds of supplements, many have helped me greatly, but none made as dramatic a difference as Vit A. But it cannot be in the form of beta-carotene, as many people, hypers in particular, cannot convert it to the active retinol form. I take the Carlson brand of Vit A from fish oil, 25.000 IU. Vit A is essential for the health of the immune system and the integrity of the mucus membranes, which line both the respiratory and digestive tracts. It also has a normalizing effect on both over- and under-active immune systems, so is important with any auto-immune condition. I always was prone to bronchitis, ear infections, cough, upper respiratory infections. Back then, when Prevention magazine was worth reading and actually had great information on supplements, I read how important Vit A was for these problems I continually had. I initially started out taking about 100,000 IU/day for a few weeks, then went down to a maintenance dose. Since then, I rarely get sick anymore, and if I do, the symptoms are far less. Vit A is also essential to the health of the endocrine system, so anyone with thyroid problems would do well to increase their intake. It's also important to take D3 along with the A, since taking both has a synergistic effect and prevents toxic levels of either one. > > Does anyone understand the info concerning vitamin A on 's website? > > It looks like you wouldn't want to supplement with vitamin A, because the liver storage is higher, because your body isn't transporting it correctly. > > But some of the articles seem to conclude that vitamin A would be deficient in hypers. > > So, is the liver just storing all the vitamin A because it can't use it, or is it really deficient? > > I am trying to figure out why my nails are suddenly splitting. Guest guest
Correction: Meant to say that 'Many people with thyroid problems cannot convert it to the active form. Guest guest
: " But it cannot be in the form of beta-carotene, as many people, hypers in particular, cannot convert it to the active retinol form. " I thought hypers are rapidly converting beta-carotene to retinol. I thought it was hypos who cannot do this. " I take the Carlson brand of Vit A from fish oil, 25.000 IU. " That is what I have recently been taking (NOW brand though). Prior to that, I was taking about 10-15,000 IU from CLO for about 2-3 years. I have also increased my D3 from 2-3000 IU to 4000 IU, because my OH-vit D is only 38. So, you don't think it could be the high vit A causing it? I don't think 25,000 is very high, especially since I am taking it about every other day or 2 days on and 1 off. The articles on 's site are confusing me, though, making me think I am rapidly converting beta-carotene to vit A and taking vit A from fish liver oil on top of it and possibly storing it all in the liver, because I can't transport it correctly. What do you think? I am reading about folic acid deficiency and breaking nails, too. I am just too scared to try adding other B's right now, after my recent insomnia and nervousness (the nervousness is still here). I will try adding it in a few days. I see my doctor tomorrow. She might have some ideas on the sudden nail breakage. I am quite positive it is a deficiency (or I suppose excess), but I haven't figured out what it is. Iron is a possibility too. I wonder if my copper has started decreasing my iron stores. I also notice that I tend to get a little dizzy around day 1-2 of my menstrual cycle. Then it goes away though. I am just afraid that taking iron right now might further drive down my copper. Isn't this fun to figure out?!!! Thanks, Olif
Guest guest
Olif, I really don't think Vit A is at all causing your problems. Even if you were toxic with it, you don't have the symptoms, and being hyper isn't one of them. Have you had ferritin levels checked recently? Also, here's some info on methylation: http://www.alternativementalhealth.com/articles/walshMP.htm#Met This link is addressing atrial fibrillation, but has some interesting methylation info: http://www.afibbers.org/conference/session20.pdf Also, have you since this about nail health: http://www.aafp.org/afp/20040315/1417.html > > : > " But it cannot be in the form of beta-carotene, as many people, hypers > in particular, cannot convert it to the active retinol form. Guest guest
Hi Ant Joan, I like the Carlson brand of Vit. A from fish oil. It comes in 25,000 IU and 10,000 IU caps. If one is deficient, I would suggest the 25,000 strength for a couple of months, then decrease to the 10,000, and then if you feel you are getting sick, go back to the higher doses for several days. I've taken as much as 200,000 IU for a couple of days when I felt myself getting sick. > > Dear , > > What is the best supplement to take for Vitamin A, and how much should we > take? > > AntJoan > > > > **************************************Check out AOL's list of 2007's hottest > products. > (http://money.aol.com/special/hot-products-2007?NCID=aoltop00030000000001) > > >
Guest guest
Ant Joan, This Vit A is DERIVED from fish oil, so there's not much there at all. One trick I've learned helps with digesting oils (I also have a problem with that) is to take a tablespoon of unsweetened applesauce. Guest guest
: " Have you had ferritin levels checked recently? " The last time I had it tested was Oct., after I had been supplementing with copper for about 3 weeks. It was 60-something, which is down from 90-something it was a year ago. Maybe it is lower right now...I really have no idea. " Also, here's some info on methylation: http://www.alternativementalhealth.com/articles/walshMP.htm#Met " It looks like I am overmethylating, if anything. But any other time in my life, I would be characteristic is undermethylating. I do want to ask Dr. H to get my neurotransmitters tomorrow. She uses NeuroScience for this. I think they are an excellent company. I will let you know my results! -Olif
Guest guest
Hi , It's good to hear from you. You are right, that your reactions are die-off/healing reactions. Any skin reactions, rash, etc. are caused by toxins coming out through the skin. That is one of the very best ways the body uses to get rid of toxins so vital inner organs are protected. When such symptoms intensify that is because your body acquires the capability of detoxifying better. I think the reason your skin reactions get worse when you take vitamin A is because that is exactly what your body requires, even though I am very familiar with you taking high vitamin A (Accutane) in the past. The form of vitamin A you are taking now is a different form, which is required in order to heal. You can buy Natural Factors brand Vitamin A whic is derived from fish liver oils at iHerb: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/resource/iherb.php Even though it contains soybeans, it won't be enough soy to be concerned about since the retinol is from fish liver oils.
