Guest guest
A gfcf diet is not harmful. We saw a major difference after about 2 weeks. You might consider getting an Igg test to check for food sensitivities, because there could be others beside what is eliminated in a GFCF diet. The other test is a hair test. Stay away from any " Challenge " or " Provoked " tests because they can be harmful. Giving vitamins and minerals is not harmful. There are a few vitamins that are fat soluable that you could possibly give too much over a period of time, but this is rare. Most vitamins like C are water soluable and will come out in the urine if given too much. Best thing to do is read about these things on the internet. A good fish oil is helpful as well if you can get you child to take it. I have one boy that likes it and another that doesn't. Guest guest
Hi Laila I am in Calgary. Which DAN! Are you going to see? There are very few good DAN!'s in town. Gfcf has a learning curve, but it isn't hard once you have figured it out. It does not hurt your kid (regardless of what you read/told). If you find it hard, start with casein first, that is usually the most obvious and its out of your system in 3 days. No side effects, either he will feel/act better or not (as far as going gfcf). You will know when things work because you should see some gains, or at least less negatives. What type of testing are you looking at? Have you read at all about the chelation most do on this board. Bar none is the most dramatic thing that has happened to my son, after a year of gfcfsfcf and biomed/vitamins/homeopathics/etc. Feel free to email me privately if you wish since I know the situation in Calgary. Guest guest
Hi! Please go to the TACA now website Talk About Curing Autism at tacanow.org, then generationrescue.org and the Autism Research Institute at autism.com. Be sure to read up on a lot of recovery stories in my favorite books: " Children with Starving Brains, A Medical Treatment Guide for Autism Spectrum Disorder " by Dr. McCandless, " Healing the New Childhood Epidemics, Autism, ADHD, Asthma and Allergies " by Dr. Bock and " Healing and Preventing Autism, A complete guide " by McCarthy and Dr. Kartzinel. After filling your brain with hope and information get yourself a rescue angel of your own on the generation rescue site. You can also live chat with parents that have been there and done everything at the tacanow.org website. On the tacanow website they have an entire section on the GFCF diet that REALLY helped us implement it. We have been on it with my son fora while. We began in January of this year and first with casein removal, then gluten a few weeks later (it tells you a timeline and recipes on the taca site). Then we put (2 years old, ASD) in the regional centers autism school where they let him eat wheat and milk, do wheat flour art projects and play with playdough (full of gluten)against my IEP and strict doctor's orders. Let's just say it was quite the experiment in how GREAT GFCF is for us. There was a bit of withdrawl when we took him off ofthe offending foods, crying, sad, weepy, angry etc... then he began to speak. Just words, no sentences but it was nice. Best of all his receptive language is up to his age level. I can go everywhere with him, he is very NT looking and now after being back on the diet, with a DAN doc and supplements (fish oil, multi-vitamin/mineral, melatonin at sleep and probiotics) he is starting sentences. Without the diet he is another person, his poop is liquid, he doesn't respond to his name etc.. tantrums crazy boy. The most important thing about going GFCF, organic and taking out the dyes, nitrites, BHT, BHQ and his allergies (according to our allergy IgG blood panel from Alletess-thru his DAN doctor) is doing it FULL FORCE! You can't cheat EVER. You also need to change the soaps, lotions, household cleaners, candles, toothpaste everything. This is hard at first, but for us it is worth it. I use only California Baby products (online) they have shampoo, bubbles, lotions, sunscreens etc.. not that pricey and good quality. I just email all the manufacturers and they send me a list of GFCF products. I have implemented this thru the entire household and I have cleared up my skin, lost 30lbs and love to cook. This coming from a lady that hated the kitchen and lived in drive-thrus. It is scary and hard work, but nutrition is everything. My son loves his food. I slowly changed out his milk with rice and potato based formulas (his favorite-DAri-Free by VAnces-online) and his bread with rice bread. He eats, chicken nuggets by Ian's GFCF, Applegate farms hot dogs and lunch meat, peanut butter sandwiches and chips. He eats a lot and isn't starving. The taca websites are loaded with recipes that are kid tested, mom approved. LOL. As far as where to begin, generation rescue's site has a get started link that helps choose some things to do while waiting for the DAN appt. Hope this helped, I wish I had this when I began. Please email if you need anymore help. I am not the expert, just another mom on this journey. hugs, You are not alone, and until we can stop this epidemic is will > > Hi Laila > > > > I am in Calgary. Which DAN! Are you going to see? Guest guest
Hi Laila, > Is gfcf hard and what about biomed????? Can we hurt our kids in anyways?? > Do they have side effects???? GFCF should be transitioned gradually and my experience is assume you may have a yeast problem and work to manage that simultaneously. Otherwise the yeast could get aggressive when starved of all the dairy and wheat that is feeding it, and spring roots which cause a leaky gut (this is what happened in our home). If I were starting over again, I would give a yeast management product like Candex or Jernigan " Yeast Ease " and start to supplement biotin and a strep-free probiotic while switching over to GFCF. I think the GAPS diet and Body Ecology are actually closer to what will heal the kids' guts; GFCF in the form of a lot of processed food " substitutes " tends to cause more yeast problems. As for biomed, I do think you can hurt your kid by blindly assuming a " DAN " doctor knows exactly what to do. In particular, the DAN chelation protocol does not have a very good recovery rate. After bad experiences with IV which I had heard was the " easy and fast way to detox your kid " , I had to do further research and get smarter about how chelation works. This was helpful and put us on the path to improvements http://onibasu.com/wiki/Cutler_protocol http://www.markschauss.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/cutlerinterview.pdf How soon can we tell that something is > working????? How often do we do testing?? If something is working, symptoms improve or disappear. With supplements, I found it very helpful to learn how to " muscle test " and learn the energetic aspect of all healing. We didn't get gains from supplementing everything, but rather giving a few that the body needs at that point in time. However, cod liver oil, organic coconut oil, folate and B12 (not shots, just sublingual hydroxy B12, not methyl for us) are regular ones. A useful test was the Genova Neurogenomics which identified genetic variations and indicated we really needed to supplement active folate, not folic acid. Good luck, PJ
