Hi, Lorraine,

How much does your daughter weigh, and how many milligrams of DMSA did you give?

Maybe you could lower the dose a bit.

Dear Ann,

She weighs 17kg. We give her 16mg per dose. Is that too much?

Hi Lorraine, I would take a couple weeks off and get the yeast under control. I

would guess that you wouldn't see a whole lot of improvement if she has bad

candida overgrowth. What is your yeast protocol like? Are you giving enzymes

with food and probiotics after meals and before bed?

Ann is right, try lowering the dose next time. Many of our kids experienced

sweating and even bed-wetting with DMSA when they started off on it. Maybe

another thing that would help is making sure to give it with a little food

during the day.

Take Care,

Liz

ended on Mon midnight with 17 doses on a 4hourly basis. But after the cycle, I

didn't see any improvements. Worse, my daughter's bowels seem more irritable, as

she started complaining of tummy pains.

You are pretty close to the max dose. Try backing it off a little. Half a 25mg

cap would be an easy place to start.

My understanding is that many people start by dosing at 1/4 mg or even 1/8 mg

per pound of body weight. For 17 kg (37.4 pounds), such a starting dose would

range from approximately 5 mg to 9 mg DMSA.

We started at about 6 mg DMSA, and my son weighed around 25kg then.

(I divided a 25mg capsule into four doses.) Perhaps I'm overly cautious, but it

has worked fine.

My son weights 17.5kg. The starting dose was 5mg.

Your's very high as a starting dose.

Thanks all. She doesn't seem to have yeast from all her stool and urine tests.

So we didn't give anything for yeast. Probiotics- yes, on empty stomach in the

morning and before bed.

Ok, will reduce it and see how it goes. Thanks again.
