Guest guest
I think it's maybe he enjoyed the beach. Did you do any therapy while you were there? My son was the same way. We went to the beach and when he got home, he was whinny and took awhile to get back to the usual therapies. I think it's his way of saying he's tired of it all and he had fun during vacation and wants more. Our kids do work hard! Guest guest
My son is the same way at the beach....he's so calm, so peaceful. I have a friend who swears it's ions that are present. I'm not really sure, but I thought that for kids who are real sensory the beach may give them some relief. There's not a lot of clutter....they can just stare out into the ocean and not be distracted. Also, the sounds of the waves may be calming...it is to me. Guest guest
I discovered by fluke I am allergic to dust mites. I have to spray my closets, carpets, curtains and mattresses every three months and dust and vaccuum daily or I can't stand being in the house - short tempered and surly(adult meltdoens!). I also have a homeopathic dust mite remedy that works great when I stay with anyone else.
Guest guest
Also consider the reduction or absence of airborne allergens at the beach. You could even notice any difference in behavior when there's an onshore breeze vs an offshore breeze. If he's better with an onshore breeze (bringing allergen-free ocean air), that would be significant. Dean
Guest guest
I cannot believe this! I just picked up my son and husband from the airport who spent 5 days in Yellowstone. My son was off of his restrictive diet (Feingold Stage 1) and was eating all kinds of foods that he never gets to eat. Both my husband and father-in-law said he was absolutely " perfect " , a real " gem " , never complaining or whining about anything. He got very little sleep, could not take his probiotics (b/c my husband said they got " ruined " since they could not refrigerate them in time), he did not have a bowel movement for a few days, and he ate bad cafeteria food. As soon as he arrived in Chicago, he started acting extremely hyper. At the dinner table, my husband said he was acting " crazy " and did not act like that once in Yellowstone. It was like he couldn't control himself at the table. Although I understand what many of you are saying about the vitamin D from being out in the sun, fun activity, magnesium in the salt water or ocean air, I cannot now help but feel that maybe he is allergic to something in our house or in our environment (God knows Chicago is polluted). We were also in FL a few months ago, and he was almost perfect there too. Any other thoughts? From: Dean <dmo25@...> Subject: RE: [ ] Re: better at the beach!! worse at home? Guest guest
I happen to believe that nature is healing -- oceans, mountains, forests, even dirt.... When we get away from the " city " , Our bodies get more in tune with the earth's natural rhythms. I noticed this when my boys were little. They would be pretty awful at times at home, but out in nature they behaved better, ate better, and slept better! Many of us are hyper-sensitive to electromagnetic fields. I'm one of those people who reacts terribly to EMFs. They make me dizzy, unsteady on my feet, nauseated, light-headed and foggy-brained. Certain places are the worst - such as certain stores (with LOTS of fluorescent lighting), places with lots of computers, TVs, stereos, etc., doctors' offices and hospitals... This subject is being explored in ASD kids. Some parents are trying to adjust their home environments to create " cleaner " EM environments. As an experiment, you might shut the power off for a short while, and see if it affects your son's behavior. One must-do is to remove all fluorescent lighting, (and the compact fluorescent bulbs being marketed as " green " are mercury-driven)... Etc. etc. Salt is good for you! Kind of interesting article. Guest guest
We live by the beach and every time we go, my son says he doesn't want to, but he also does very well. I read somewhere that the Atlantic is very good for you. If you think about it, the oceans have lots of mineral content and if they are playing in it, their bodies would absorb this and breathing the sea spray would also get it into their bodies. I would guess it works like Epsom salt baths. Being out in nature would also allow the body to have a break from pollution and and to be able to work on other detoxing. I feel better when I go too. Guest guest
My kids are like this too.....and I think that it is a couple things that come into play...newness is the biggest thing. New situations, new people, new foods...the whole thing is new and exciting...and then home again....back to normal routines, normal foods, normal whatever it takes to make life work... Plus the stress seems less when we are at the lake or something like that...I am not stressed trying to figure out how to feed them so they will eat with out arguing...not thinking about supps, poops and all the rest of the biomedical stuff...and neither are they. We don't go on long trips..but I do notice this even on the shorter ones. I am sure they get as stressed and bored and uptite as we do...and takin a break seems to make a big difference. jmho Ronni > I happen to believe that nature is healing -- oceans, mountains, forests, even dirt.... Guest guest
We've always noticed that our son does quite well on vacations. I think lack of boredom plays into it a ton. The most interesting occurrence on a recent vacation was in december when we took a cruise. My son has issues with peeing the bed. If we don't wake him up at 10:30, he'll be wet by 11:00 or so. After this one potty trip, he'll usually stay dry until morning. Well, one night on the cruise, he was especially wet. He was wet when we got him up at 10:30, he peed again at that time (a lot!). He woke up wet at 6:00 and then peed again! (I felt so bad for the people who had to clean our room...wished I could have just done it for them!) we started thinking about the " whys " ...he had been swimming in the ocean that day, so our first thought was that he may have been drinking too much ocean water, but after a few seconds we realized that he had a life jacket on the entire time. His head never went under. He had not had any more fluid than usual. We were guessing there was more natural detoxing going on than usual due to the salt water??? Guest guest
That IS strange - the only thing I can offer is that sometimes it takes time for salicylate reactions to occur. It's associated with detoxification of the liver so there's a threshold before the by-products start to build up. They say the same thing with yeast too. Often there's a honeymoon period as the yeast/bad bacteria get their needed food. Then the rough stuff starts. Or maybe your kiddo is just better for daddy than mommy (I get this with grandma/pa too). Wouldn't that be a kicker? 5yo PDD ________________________________ From: <jkryan34@...> Sent: Monday, August 10, 2009 10:08:44 PM Subject: RE: [ ] Re: better at the beach!! worse at home? Guest guest
--- Hi The same thing happened to my son when we went to Ullaroo Ayers rock Northern Territory Australia. It is very hot there lots of sun and little cloud. Megson said the sun sets off a cascade of events including hormone and immunoglobulin which is why these kids often do so much better during the summer. She said she had a family from Alaska who carried light boxes with them for the winter months. regards Sharon G In , " Amy W. Guest guest
I noticed this with my son too - much more lively by the seaside than at home. In addition to everything else mentioned, I 'suspect " the vit.D working as a chelator, iodine in the mist (thyroid) and just plain healing power of the God-created Nature. I'd have to warn you to watch out for the sun exposure: mine doesn't use ANY kind of subnlock but ALWAYS wears a large-brimmed WHITE hat and stayes in the shade periodically. I noticed that many of the Mito and spectrum kids do not tan very well - which could be misleading- but still get the harmful rays. Good luck, Kimmie (Kim)
Guest guest
The homeopathic remedy is one my naturopath mixes up - he just calls it dust and mould. The spray is the Norwex mattress cleaner - it was almost 36 dollars for a bottle but I use it frequently on everything that can't go in the washer and I have half a bottle left after a year and a half. When I had to quit to figure out what was happening with my kids I started selling it - so could ship you some if you don't know a distributer already. good luck > > > From: kristinabradsmom <kdrapeau@...> > Subject: [ ] Re: better at the beach!! worse at home? > > Date: Monday, August 10, 2009, 7:59 PM > > > > > > > I discovered by fluke I am allergic to dust mites. Guest guest
Increased vitamin D at the beach and at higher elevations. Iodine in the air at the beach, trace minerals in the sea. All round very good but especially for the thyroid. Marie schrieb: > > > I think it's maybe he enjoyed the beach. Did you do any therapy while > you were there? My son was the same way.
