Guest guest
Hi All, one of my friends told me that Risperdal is linked to Diabetes, so I got a little worried for my other friend's boy who is on it, told her about the connection, and said Lithium Orotate might be a good replacement. She is very interested in switching, but some person on the TACA board told her it takes a long time to " wean off " Risperdal, is this true? She wants to do something ASAP before school starts. Does anyone have experience with this?
Guest guest
You cannot rapid detox from Risperdal. The effects could be disasterous. Why on earth is this child on an anti-psychotic? That's what Risperdal is...it's not for " focus " and believe me, it is not a pleasant drug to be on. I'm getting very disturbed by the amount of children on it. A very slow weaning in neccessary... Guest guest
Risperdal CAN lead to metabolic syndrome which often ends up as diabetes. You really can't replace it like you mention, though. Risperdal is really hard to get off of. A very helpful thing to avoid side effects is to wean down SLOWLY - very slowly. On a low dose, you should not have much risk of metabolic syndrome. You can do glucose tolerance testing to check the status and see if there is a problem. If the child has gained weight with risperdal, there is likely at least a mild metabolic syndrome issue. Losing the weight via weaning will help end that. > > Hi All, one of my friends told me that Risperdal is linked to Diabetes, so I got a little worried for my other friend's boy who is on it, told her about the connection, and said Lithium Orotate might be a good replacement. Guest guest
You can also take nutritional supplements that promote normal healthy blood sugar regulation along with the Risperdal. Risperdal is far better about not inducing blood sugar problems than some of the other similar medications, but in cases where it does cause a lot of difficulties, switching to another similar medication sometimes helps.
