I am new to this group, and have a son who was diagnosed ASD back in Sept. 08

and started biomed in Nov. 08...but I have a question, and am not sure if anyone

can help me :

>I am thoroughly confused...and I am hoping someone can help!

>

>My 2 1/2 year old recently broke out in hives all over his body while at the

pool the other day. I assumed he was allergic to the sunscreen I put on him, so

I gave him Benadryl and the hives went away. Today, I let him play in the

sprinkler at home, in the shade, wearing NO sunscreen, and he broke out in the

SAME hives all over his body wherever the cold water touched. Obviously... it

wasn't the sunscreen, but semed like some kind of allergy to the cold water. I

gave him Benadryl, and the hives got better, and when I took him out of the

water, the welts went away withinh 10-15 minutes. He was breathing fine, and

wanted to play more, but since he is non-verbal, I don't know if the welts were

itchy or not.

>I did a Google search (as I do for EVERYTHING) and it turns out that people are

actually allergic to the cold/cold water...it is called Cold Urticaria. My son

has never had this problem before, and had enjoyed the COLD pool/sprinkler the

past 2 summers with NO problems. The only difference in him this year is that we

started biomed in November, and he is on several supplements, including an

anti-fungal for his overgrowth of yeast. I had read an article about

anti-fungals being triggers for this Cold Urticaria, so I called my DAN dr. and

he said he had never heard of such a thing.

>Anyway, I am posting this to see if anyone else with a child doing biomed or on

an anti-fungal has experienced anything like this?? I hate to think that I

cannot take my son to the pool this summer or let him play with the other kids

in the sprinkler... he already has such a strict diet (GFCFSF) and don't want

him to feel like he is different than his sisters.

Hi,

Found this..

The leading doctor on cold urticaria, Dr. Alan Wanderer in Bozeman, MT

believes that onset of cold urticaria is often preceded by Mono or other

<http://ehealthforum.com/health/topic114714.html> viral infection. (This is

not proven yet.) I don't know if this is published, but he has a workbook

avail on Amazon.

Do you have viral issues?

Chlorine? All tap water has this. My mom had this cold uticaria thingy....

check his adrenal function. This is not from his antifungal.

People with low adrenal function are prone to allergic reactions and

inflammation.

If he had a hair test...that will show if his adrenals are slow.

If not, then got to www.stopthethyroidmadness.com and read under " those durn

adrenals " this will tell you how to self test him.

If he tests for slow adrenals, consider using adrenal cortex daily to support

his adrenals.
