All this talk about stool color, liver support. What is a good color to watch

for?

My food allergy guy as a baby, when getting all this blood and skin testing done

around 8-9 months, he had the strangest bowels that I'd ever seen. One was

bright yellow and I saw white too.

Thanks

Darker brown, like chocolate milk or darker with the consistency of chewed up

cardboard was what the ND told me.

No peices of undigested food. No black spots (yeast from what I hear).

my little guy has chunks of undigested foods- does that maybe mean food

sensitivities to those foods or something else? Helpful to add digestive

enzymes?

Last week I saw green peas in diaper.

One, they should chew better - but good luck getting your boy to do that. I'll

talk with my boys about it when I'm able to have an actual conversation with

them in a couple of years.

Yes, digestive enzymes are very helpful for this. We just got more diligent

about this and are having great results.. I believe it also leaves less stuff

for the yeast and other nasties in the gut if you digest your food more

thoroughly.

Brown or dark brown is a good sign, though I understand that a little lighter

isn't necessarily a bad sign. For lighter-coloured stool, if you leave it in the

toilet for a while, you often will see darker areas come out, which indicates

the presence of bile. If there is no darkness in the stool after a few hours,

then it could be that there isn't enough bile.

Andy has good posts about the effect of bile on stool here:

In our home, brownish-orangey coloured stools usually are OK (ie they darken in

the toilet over time) but mustard-yellow stools are problematic.

My DD has these periods where a yellow stool comes out, I have no idea why. Her

liver enzymes are all OK. Her lighter coloured stools often coincide with

periods where she's " off " as well.

I give regular liver support to my kids and find that it helps.
