Guest guest
I think it's really pathetic when one can't write their opinion on a listserv without getting attacked and accussed of things. I have never seen this stuff go on in other places except here and its a shame because I would think most of us are here to get information and help others with the information they know. I would think its not here to insult people not only privately but publicly and when its brought to their attention it still happens and the finger is still being pointed at the one who is not doing anything but writing an opinion. To that I say I feel sorry for people like that. They are not proving anything except how ignorant they are and there is enough ignorance being generated at times towards short statured people. Enough! Helen
Guest guest
Thank you...I will look into this. We were using something " natural " called Baqua and it left horrible tar-like residue along the water line in our tub. Also wasn't strong enough to keep the water from clouding up. Are you saying with the product you recommended that you're able to go in your hot tub every day and NOT wind up with a yeast infection? Thanks for the clarification! Guest guest
, Yes, I can go in every day & not see a flare up of yeast. I have been using this product for 6 years now. Recommended by a Nurse Practitioner Midwife for safe water births. I am not real great at replacing the ion thing(Nature 2 Spa Purifier Cartridge) that goes into the filter like they say-- but, the RENEW non-chlorine shock(Potassium Peroxymonosulfate: 32.25%) is great. It fuzzes like hydrogen peroxide when you put it in. If I go in at least 3 x's a week I just add some 1hr. before I get in, that's all. It seem to keep the ph level balanced no ups & downs. We tried Baqua for a small pool we had 3ftx12ft & it was a pain to keep balanced & its residue was too much of a problem for us. Also, it was real expensive 7yrs ago. They even have the Nature 2 system for pools now. I am allergic to chlorine--so I had to find an alternative. Wishing you the Best, Lmommy Re: hot tub Thank you...I will look into this. Guest guest
We were doing the same PT with Garrett. It is really great in limbering up those tender joints. We do not have a hot tub at all, but you can also consider a whirlpool bathtub. Some keep the warm temp and it also serves the same purpose. The one thing you need to be extremely careful with a hot tub is one the temp of the water and time in the water for your daughter. Hot tubs will raise her body temp as well as limbering up the joints. This rise in the body temp can set them up for a run of fevers. The other issue with hot tubs is the amout of bacteria that can be in the water so you will need to watch out for additional infections. Theraputic pools at between 88 to 92 degrees. . . Hot tubs are at 110. With her being so young you may also find an issue with the temp on her skin. We don't have the same program here so I can't advise you on how it works. Good luck. Guest guest
Hi Ashlee: We live in Canada, so I can't help you with your financial questions, but our daughter Mickey did also receive physical therapy in a hot tub in the first few years, and we did end up buying one for ourselves. It was invaluable, especially in the first few years before the various drugs got control over her pain and symptoms. She was 3 when she was diagnosed (with systemic onset jra) but had had symptoms for a year. She used to wake up crying from the pain in the night and the only thing that would help was a warm bath. We ended up getting a softsided hot tub - it can be easily moved, and while it has no 'seating' built into it, we found it was better for young children because the vinyl liner was less slippery than the fiberglass ones and they used it almost like a swimming pool. When Mickey was having a bad night, I'd just take the cover off of it and get it in with her, especially when she was younger (ie smaller, not walking because of the pain and needing the support) I'd just sort of hold her head up while she floated. We kept it out on the deck, and she loved being able to just look up at the stars and float around. It really did a lot to alleviate her pain, and was faster than running yet another bathtub full of hot water. It was really a lifesaver, and led to some pretty special memories between her and I. Though she was young, she was fairly articulate and we've had some of our best talks in the hot tub. She seemed more able (in the dark) to talk about the pain, and how she felt about the doctors, the therapies, and the arthritis. It helped on a lot of levels. Maybe because she felt so 'cocooned' - And when she was a little older and starting school, it really helped ease up the morning stiffness. So - personally - I think that hot tub was the best investment we ever made. It made a huge difference in her quality of life, especially in those early years before the drugs provided more consistent symptomatic control. Good luck with getting one. The advantages to the softsided ones (depending on where you live, and what kind of home you have) for us was that we could move it indoors into the rec room in the winter if we needed to. Mostly we keep it outside though... the kids LOVE it when there are snowdrifts all around it and they're sitting up to their necks in hot water with snowflakes drifting down on their heads! Not to mention a quick roll in the snow before diving back into it! If you think this sounds weird, you don't know enough Finlanders! Guest guest
We had a hot tub given to us generously through United Way, Arthritis Society, and Manitobans with disabilities. We would sometimes carry him from his bed and let him soak in it and then he would be able to make it to school. We even wrote off all the other expenses as deductions when we called it a " hydrotherapy spa " . If you ask the right people help is out there. Guest guest
Thanks.I had actually thought about contacting Make-a-Wish. What type of hot tub did she get? I'd really like one that has a child seat but haven't been able to find one other than The Healing Spa by Thermospas?!? Hot Tub Ashlee, 6 1/2 got a hot tub this summer through Make-a-Wish. She has poly JRA. She did therapeutic swimming when she was first diagnosed at 3 1/2. She loved it but our insurance did not cover it. Last year I called Make-a-Wish. They came through with flying colors and loves her hot tub...so do we! I'd try it.
