Hi,

I started biotin two days ago and yesterday I noted his stool became loose. I

tried ago for another day and again, today's stool is loose.

What happened? (he had formed and pasty stool for quite a few weeks but never

loose)

At my house, this meant yeast was coming out.

Biotin can be constipating because it requires magnesium for proper absorption,

but yeast coming out can cause diarrhea.

Or, check the ingredients, maybe something in the biotin does not agree with

him.

I see, so yellow loose stool might be good news :) ..

I got Source naturals Biotin. Other ingredients include microcrystaline

cellulose, stearic acid and magnesium sterate.

I gave 180g magnesium oxide twice a day with 300mcg of biotin.

(my child wasn't on magnesium before and maybe that's causing the loose

stool as well?)

If it's working, it sure is super effective at such low dose.

Possibly, yes.

I developed diarrhea much quicker using oxide than using other forms of

magnesium. However, the oxide was not very well absorbed. Once I started using

another form, I was able to slowly reduce my magnesium dose, because my body was

absorbing it.

Magnesium Oxide isn't well absorbed and that's why it is used for constipation.

It mostly passes through the bowel and will clean it out. Don't use the oxide

form as the only source of magnesium. Try magnesium citrate instead and keep the

oxide for constipation. Oxypowder is magnesium oxided.

may I know if the purpose of Mg is to counter the stool firming effect of

biotin or for better absorption?

Biotin requires magnesium for proper absorption. So if you don't give it with

magnesium, it can cause constipation because it will use magnesium for

absorption. So to answer your question, both of your choices above.
