Guest guest
I consume more organic coconut oil when I need thyroid support. The brand I happen have on hand is Spectrum, which I get because it is conveniently available at my local grocery store and the quality has worked just fine for us. What I have found, though, is that when I am sick, I generally need to provide both adrenal support and thyroid support. Someone told me once that when the adrenals are stressed for a long time, it eventually puts stress on the thyroid. I have found this to be true -- for me, at least. These are not herbals, but what I used to correct thyroid issues here was selenium, iodine, and tyrosine. Dana
Guest guest
I am using Nutricology's Adrenal Cortex Extract and Jarrow's Tyrosine (with B6) - very helpful; I never feel cold anymore. > > > > > I see in the archives that Andy suggests using herbs to help improve thyroid function, but I can't seem to find the brand names that parents have used that work well. Guest guest
Kind of an interesting tidbit, I ran out of coconut oil a couple weeks ago and the boys and I all had candida really bad. Don't know if it was a coincidence or not, we hadn't done anything else different. I usually use it like butter, we put it on veggies, oatmeal, salmon, you name it...everybody likes it a lot. I found a local brand that's not too expensive. > > > > > > I consume more organic coconut oil when I need thyroid support. I don't currently have OLE or OOO in the house and haven't had the money recently to buy more. Coconut oil has antibiotic properties and Andy once told me that it does good things for the gut flora. It's also a medium chain triglyceride, which is highly recommended for people with my genetic disorder. According to Andy, who was kind enough to take a look at my website a few years ago and discuss some things with me, all the oils I list as tolerating well are medium chain triglycerides. I don't know much chemistry, so I don't know why that would be so important. I've been gradually learning some things about food chemistry, very piecemeal, and reworking our diets -- recreating favorite recipes with " safe " foods and altering others to bring down the acidity and things like that. I finally really enjoy food. For many years, I often forced myself to eat when my blood sugar dropped so low that I was getting the shakes and feeling faint. At my sickest, it was common for me to have something like carnation instant breakfast or oatmeal for either lunch or dinner. I really was having trouble tolerating solid food. Anyway, enough of my sleep-deprived ramblings. :-) Coconut oil has many good qualities. That and organic butter are our current staples for fats/oils in the house. Later.
