Guest guest
Hi All Does anybody know how long you need to be off LDN before you can successfully use narcotic based pain killers. The reason I ask is my wife is going for stereotactic radiation very soon and just in case I thought it would be prudent to be off the LDN Has anybody any suggestions about the stereotactic procedure. The doctor says Jacinta will be very tired for a few weeks afterwards. I hope it will start in about 10 days from now. We had the first visit last Thursday. Thanks
Guest guest
, It is my understanding that LDN is completely out of your body in the morning when you wake up. I recently had to go to hospital and was put under a general, I continued taking LDN the night before I had to go into hospital. I survived and am OK, I just came home today. However, I don't know how long you have to be off painkillers etc., before you start LDN, but I do know your system has to be free of it. I hope this little bit of information is of some help. Good luck > > Hi All > > Does anybody know how long you need to be off LDN before you can > successfully use narcotic based pain killers. > The reason I ask is my wife is going for stereotactic radiation very > soon and just in case I thought it would be prudent to be off the LDN > > Has anybody any suggestions about the stereotactic procedure. Guest guest
My question is this: how did you learn that you must be off painkillers before taking LDN? IS that a requirement because it is dangerous, as your post implied? I am on Fentanyl patch, every 3 days (opiate based). Therefore, before starting LDN I must stop the patch? Would appreciate info RE the dangers. Thank you!! Guest guest
, First of all, did the doctor say there would be narcotics needed for pain??? Many stereotactic radiation therapies are of such a dose that it is not usually a significantly painful procedure. Depending on the area being radiated, there can be a sunburn like effect, but this can usually be treated with non-narcotic painkillers. Now if your wife is going in for stereotactic gamma knife surgery, that is a different animal, and I would be off LDN the day or two before. But if this is a treatment for brain or lung CA for tumor reduction or post-surgical radiation, I would ask the doctor about pain before going off LDN. In the case of cancer, we need all the immune boosting and nutritional help we can get. Guest guest
I don't think its dangerous its the pain killers wont work. so if my wife needs strong pain killers they will not work while on LDN. SO you need to check if your patch is for pain I don't think it will work if you start LDN, this may cause you problems, I was on LDN for 1 week just to check any side effects before my wife started on it. I had the normal side effect, Wake up at 4am and wide awake for the first 3 nights and then slept ok. Another major problem I noted was on night 5, I went for a few pints with some friends Ha-ha they talk some rubbish with a few pints, I felt like I was just drinking water, so the LDN must have been still in my system. > > > > Hi All > > > > Does anybody know how long you need to be off LDN before you can > > successfully use narcotic based pain killers. > > The reason I ask is my wife is going for stereotactic radiation very > > soon and just in case I thought it would be prudent to be off the > LDN > > > > Has anybody any suggestions about the stereotactic procedure. Guest guest
Naltrexone is an opioid blocker, its basic use was to negate the effects of narcotics. A close relative of this drug even reverses narcotics, and is given to drug overdose patients. In the LOW DOSE STATE (3.0, 4.5, etc.) the effect is probably somewhat less but still certainly possible. So to insure the full effect of your narcotics, it is probably best to be off LDN for a day or two before using painkillers. Here is a list I copied from an Althea Whitman post about drugs you can take or NOT with LDN: Do not take Naltrexone with any of the following without first talking to your doctor: • disulfiram (Antabuse);• thioridazine (Mellaril);• buprenorphine (Buprenex, Subutrex);• codeine (Tylenol with Codeine, and other brand names);• hydrocodone (Lorcet, Lortab, Vicodin, Vicoprofen, and otherbrand names);• hydromorphone (Dilaudid);• levorphanol (Levo-Dromoran) ;• meperidine (Demerol);• methadone (Dolophine, Methadose);• morphine (Kadian, MS Contin, MSIR, OMS, Roxanol, Oramorph SR,and other brand names);• oxycodone (M-Oxy, OxyContin, OxyIR, Roxicodone, Percocet,Percodan, and other brand names);• oxymorphone (Numorphan); or• propoxyphene (Darvon, and other brand names). · Novantrone · Rebif · Avonex · Betaseron · Tysabri · Chemo's I believe that steroids, short term, are ok with LDN. Dr. Skip As per Skip’s Compounding Pharmacy in Boca Raton , Florida “Darvocet” is one of the very few that You Can Take with LDN without it canceling out the LDN…… From: Donna Kafka <dkvictory1@...>Subject: Re: [low dose naltrexone] Re: Going off LDNlow dose naltrexone Date: Monday, February 2, 2009, 6:52 PM My question is this: how did you learn that you must be off painkillers before taking LDN? Guest guest
Hi Donna Yes Fentanyl is on the list of drugs to avoid http://www.webspawner.com/users/avoidthesedrugsonldn/index.html You need to find a pain killer that is not opiate based , your doctor should be able to advise you. Just before Christmas we went to hospital my wife had some pain. The doctor was great she gave us 3 pain killers 2 were non opiate and 1 was. She told us to play with the 2 and if there is still pain we would have to stop the LDN and take the third. Luckily the first tablet worked. Guest guest
Thank you, , for the info, and yes, I am on the patch for pain. Due to the MS, my balance was off and I began falling a lot. On one of those times, I fell directly on my knee, breaking my knee cap as well as injuring disks in my neck and lower back. Pain in lower back is 'apparently not bad enough' for surgery yet, so patch has become necessary to endure the pain--nothing really to do with MS, just the injured disks. That may present a problem for me Re LDN. I understand I can't just stop the patch due to extreme withdrawal--I've tried it---so will have to do further research. Re your activity with your friends, it makes sense since LDN initially was approved for drug addiction, etc. Thanks again for your quick response and blessings to you and your wife. I have been suffering with a bad back with pain down my leg and the numb and tinglys as well. I just learned today that I need to have a spinal fusion. I can't get in for a consult for another month. I have to take my pain meds. I have tried going without them this week and I just can't manage. Is it ok to stop LDN for now until I am fixed and healed?? Thanks!
