Hi, Tamika! I would recommend making salve using cocoa butter, beeswax, a

carrier oil, and vitamin E. Add tea tree oil and comfrey and/or calendula oil to

that. The rosemary would be a good addition, too.

I use this type of salve on my daughter, who has a similar condition, and it

works great. I smear it on at night and she then washes her hair with a very

mild soap the next morning. The patches usually clear up within a few days.

Hello all- I was asked if i could make something for dry scalp. While i know

rosemary helps. I am wondering if anyone could help me come up a non-oily

cream, balm or rinse etc what ever you know from experience works. it does

not need to be your experience someone you trust or have witnessed the

recipe working will do. i want to help this guy who has had this problem for

many years. It is not psoriasis or excema. it is dry patches behind the ear

and on the scalp. the deramatologist does not know what causes it. Help!

Hi, Tamika!

A good basic salve recipe is 1 part beeswax (or cocoa butter or shea butter,

I've even seen people use soy wax) to one part oil (sweet almond, jojoba, and

emu are good, but any oil will work). If you want a thicker salve, use 1 1/2

part wax/butter to one part oil; use more oil for a softer salve. If you want

the humectant properties of the beeswax along with the moisturizing properties

of the butters, use one part of each to one part oil.

Until we started making and using this regularly, I had to use 1 1/2 parts oil

to 1 part cocoa butter until the scaliness on my daughter's scalp decreased and

a firmer salve could be used. The tea tree oil is a very important part of this

recipe! Straight tea tree oil could be used, but it has a very strong odor that

burns some people's eyes and can sometimes sting a bit. I find a mixture of tea

tree, vitamin e, chamomile, rosemary, calendula, and comfrey works well. If the

scaly patches are raw, I'd stick to straight vitamin e and tea tree oil, as the

other oils aren't always great to use on open sores.

This is a great salve for any dry area. My fiancé used it on his cracked heels

and his feet healed up within a few days!

Sorry to ramble ... HTH!!

Try using olive oil or baby oil on the scalp and leave it on overnight. Then

take a fine tooth comb and comb the crust out before you shampoo. Hope this

helps a little.

used to get that. He still does but has so much hair, few would know.

We have to force fluids on him when it gets like that. That is the medical term

for get em to drink more (not hold their mouth open and pour LOL). We also used

some heavy conditioners after the Selsun Blue shampoo.

I have a question that I hope someone may be able to answer for me.

My son Gavin 5 ds, has gotten a very dry scalp lately. It reminds me

of what they call " cradle cap " in infants. It has gotten so bad and

nothing I do seems to help. Anyone else out there who has experienced

this, and is there a solution. Thanks

Hi

Everything we have put on 's scalp has only made it worse (his

psorasis). We haven't tried the olive oil yet though.

We have used Vegetable Oil on Mattie it works real well.

Only problem is the Dog and Cats are continually trying to eat his hair!

Kaitlyn gets this occasionally. I use jojoba oil on her head. Comb out the

scaly stuff and then wash it out really well. We have a special shampoo from

the doctor that we use sometimes to prevent her head from drying out so much. I

think it is similar to dandruff shampoo. Darcy

We have been dealing with this for the past year. I use to think it was b/c

we didn't get all the shampoo out - but I'm beginning to think this could be

a DS thing. Has anyone used leave on conditioner (like Bed Head) to see if

this works? Tim did use vegetable oil on this past spring- then TJ

shaved his hair like a military haircut - it's growing back out and the

crusty stuff is back.

Hi

's dermatologist prescribed a Bed Head type conditioner-oil in which

he had to wear it with a shower cap two nights a week. It was an oily mess

and only spread the psoraisis. I believe all this skin-type stuff on the

scalp is a Down syndrome thing though I am told many people in the general

pop. have it.

It's also really important to get enough Omega 3 in you diet

http://www.n3inc.com/index2.html .

I have been on this product for about a year now, and although I never had

psoriasis, it has done wonders for my cholesterol...and my mother was able to

stop using Vioxx for her osteoarthritis. I had heard a year ago, from my

podiatrist, that Vioxx was bad for your heart...and it's just now coming out in

the news! If your kids can't take a capsule...and they're BIG, it also comes in

a liquid form. Just chase it with something like 7-up, and Noah is fine with

it. the product seems a little spendy, but it is so concentrated, you would

have to take a handful of Costco-type " fish oil " to have the same effect.

We use Nizoral shampoo and it does the best job. Holly gets cradle cap

still, and it works the best on it. When it really gets bad we use a little

olive oil on the patches and let them set. We sometimes use some

hydrocortisone

cream and antibiotic cream if she starts itching too badly,

We use Head & Shoulders " Dry Scalp " shampoo on Caty's. I'm not sure if you

would consider her really dry scalp, but it helps her flakes. I can remember

when I was a teenager using a tar smelling shampoo and it worked, but

unfortunately I can't remember the name of it.

Hi,

just thought I'd add my penny's worth. I've also suffered with an itchy dry

scalp (and hair), for years. I've found that neem oil is a great help. Check out

'the neem team' on google for shampoos and conditioners amongst other things.

good luck,

A
