francesca had absolutely no problems regarding the operation itself or the

recovery period when she had an adenoidectomy. she had it along with an EUA

(examination under anaesthetic) of the ear and consequent insertion of

tubes/grommets.

generally speaking it's a simple day case procedure...with quick recovery.

patients are encouraged to drink soon after the op and eat within hours.

much better recovery than tonsillectomy. patients can sometimes feel a bit

nauseous afterwards, as the mouth is held in an open position during surgery

and any blood loss flows directly into the stomach. so, empty tummy, bit of

blood loss(not much though honest!), anaesthetic, make for feeling a bit

sick, but otherwise good outlook.

hope this info helps a bit

Michele,

Both of my kids had both procedures at the same time. My daughter had T & A with the tubes, she had to stay in for 23 hour observation for the tounsils (spelling?). She was home playing the next evening. Cody had the adnoids and tubes, he had a tender throat for a day or two but did great. I would rather it be 1 surgery, it really didn't change the recovery, and they only had to go into one surgery.

  • 6 years later...

My 7y.o DD, seen by ENT today. Dr.recommended (with no pressure)adenoidectomy.

She is a mouth-breather, snores @ night time.Everything I read shows that is

minimal risk procedure with few complications.

I just want to hear the opinion of the parents whose children underwent

adenoidectomy. Or parents who by some reasons decided not to do it.

Sincerely, Marina
