Guest guest
I am pregnant and last time my water broke and no contractions came. Guest guest
I had another thought - as if the list isn't long enough already - Avoid triclosan - AKA anti-bacterial. It is hiding in the obvious places, and cleaner that says it is anti-bacterial. But, it is also hiding in places you wouldn't suspect, like your deodorant (not just anti-perspirants), and toothpastes have it also. It attacks thyroid function, and just plain isn't a good thing to be exposed to even when not pregnant.
Guest guest
by getting a midwife. There are natural ways to facilitate labor when the membranes have ruptured. There is a good chance that eventually you would have begun labor..but hospitals fear infection and won't wait for nature. I am inclined to think infection would not be a risk if they were not doing exams. Also, contrary to popular belief, when the waters break, they are continually replenishes so the baby is not just sitting in there without any fluid. The body keeps making more even if your leaking. -- In , campbell <daff0dil77@...> wrote: > > > I am pregnant and last time my water broke and no contractions came. Guest guest
Don't go to the hospital, or alert the doctor when water breaks. Don't do a hospital birth, but use a midwife and birth at home, if your state allows for that. Make sure your doctor knows ahead of time that you don't want pitocin or to be pressured into it unless it is a life threatening situation. I've never met a doctor that wanted to induce immediately upon water breaking. My water broke early, before my contractions were strong, but I was having them. Still the doctors didn't think it was anything birth inducing. They let me go 12 hours before starting pitocin. If I had known, I would have made them go longer. See, my contractions never did get strong enough to give birth according to the doctors. That's why #1 was born with no doctor in the room - he had gone home to wait even after starting pit since my contractions were still more than 5 minutes apart and barely hills on the monitor. #2 was born in a similar way - water broke, waiting quite a few hours, nothing happening, no pit this time, but was at the hospital. Doc checked me and then went back to the office to conduct regular office hours since I would be several more hours to delivery. He got to the office (a block away) just in time to get the call to come back for a delivery. He delivered in his street clothes, and we were thankful. For this baby had the cord wrapped around her neck 3 times!! By the time I got to baby number 4, I knew better than to go to the hospital before I thought it was time to push!! Luckily we were only minutes from the hospital. But, it was much nicer not to have a spazzing doc thinking I needed help. We arrived at 4 a.m., he was born at 4:30 a.m. with little intervention, but he is my ASD kid. Either way, by #4 we had learned and went with a midwife, law stated we still had to be at the hospital to use a midwife though. So, my wonderful but very nervous midwife followed my lead. She kept popping in though she didn't think much was happening. She would ask " You will tell us when it is time, right? " I said yes. And within two hours of arriving at the hospital, the midwife could breath easy and didn't have to worry about calling a doc to start pitocin. Baby was born and quite easily. The midwife had been so nervous, this was all new to her having been under the supervision of an MD all the time, that she even wanted to put a head monitor on the baby. Uh uh!!!!! They hate it when they can't see/confirm that nature is taking its course. All that to say, you are mom, your body knows what it is doing. Don't worry and don't let your doctors worry. It may be difficult, but take charge - it is your body and your child. I just told them I'd let them know when I needed them. campbell wrote: > I am pregnant and last time my water broke and no contractions came. Guest guest
Oh yeah, thanks - that's another one - only natural deodorant - none of the antiperspirants which have aluminum and by god, no clinical strength secret! When we're done, I'll compile a complete list and post it somewhere for future reference! From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of P. Guest guest
Just a note about midwives - I would highly suggest if you use one, you are next door to a hospital (some even work in hospitals). I certainly agree that the general medical community does a lot of things wrong, but I have a friend who tried a home birth and her son ended up with severe brain injury. His whole left side is paralyzed - at age 3.5 yrs. he can't walk and his limited language is very hard to understand. After he was delivered, he started having seizures and it took 45 min. to get to the hospital. My friend did a ton of research/interviewing/etc. on midwives and this one had a great deal of experience. Just wanted to give another side of the story. > > > > > > I am pregnant and last time my water broke and no contractions came. > I told them I didn't want pitocen and they let me wait 6 hours and > then pretty much didn't give me a choice. Guest guest
my friend adopted an older child...this theory did not work out for her. Seems many of those kids are already damaged, often why they are parentless to begin with. Mom's sometimes a druggy or alkie......might well try making one less damaged. The ones you buy from other countries come highly vaccinated too. Maybe just get a puppy..? Just kidding..I love your humor on this though...! > > > From: nicolejamesd <nicolejamesd@...> > > Subject: [ ] What are the basics to avoid autism? > > > > Date: Monday, September 15, 2008, 6:28 PM > > My friend is pregnant and wants to have a healthy baby. Guest guest
My response is late, but I would be very sure to have a diet high in methyl donors, as early in the pregnancy as possible. Even before conception if that were possible (I know it isn't in this case). The agouti mouse study with methyl donors and virtual elimination of cancer, diabetes, and obesity from manifestation (still in the genetic code but those genes are turned off) is a striking example of how crucial a functioning methylation system is to good health. Mb12, DMG, TMG, phosphatidylcholine, onions, garlic, beets. I think all those are good methyl donors. Anita
Guest guest
I would also have a diet high in beneficial bacteria, as there is much evidence that passing on a poor bacterial environment puts our kids in a highly disadvantageous position in terms of their health. Lots of true cultured foods (not bought in a store, where they are likely to be pasteurized) such as kefir, kombucha, yogurt, sauerkraut, etc. Probiotics on top of that would also be a good idea. Avoid the antibiotics in the non-organic food chain (meat). Anita
