Guest guest
Yes it worked and continues to work really well for us. My daughter has mercury issues and also had significant lead issues in the past. Cognition has been the area of greatest improvement. For example, we had read to my daughter a lot, but no one had taught her the concept of spelling. We assumed this was well beyond her capabilities. At around 4 years of age, after a few rounds of DMSA only following Cutler protocol strictly, my daughter just started spelling things. Mainly 3 letter words, cat, dog, hat, bat, etc but occasionally a four letter word. So we started playing spelling games after that. Prior to chelation, my daughter did not even know her brother existed. Now they are best friends and play well together all the time. My daughter went from being a very bright little girl who walked early and talked early, then had some serious reactions to vaccines and lost all speech, became self harming, could only scream to communicate and would not usually tolerate anyone in the same room as her. Its been a long road back to health, and we still have a way to go, but we now have speech back in full and cognition seems to improve round after round. We kept using DMSA only until the noticeable improvements stopped before we introduced ALA along with the DMSA. So we had at least 12 rounds of DMSA only. After some rounds went by on DMSA only where no improvements occurred, we then introduced ALA and the improvements started again. We had an initial yeast flare up, but that was easily kept in check with the usual anti-yeast options. I am really busy with work commitments right now, so it is really hard to find the time to respond to posts. This group has traditionally been the most " no nonsense " group in terms of biochemical knowledge and people not wasting time with " recovery fads " . That has changed a bit of late, so some of us old timers get sick of wasting our time, when others are so easily mislead to keep trying the magic fairy dust. I suspect that's one of the reasons why you were not flooded with responses. Sometimes trying to help others becomes like smashing your head against the wall, and after seeing our kids try to do this to themselves, we've got little energy left to continue to do it to ourselves. Andy's books are great. Hope you find the way forward. Its a minefield of misinformation out there. jessicagalligani wrote: > > anyone? > > > > > > I would love to know how DMSA worked for your kids during chelation. > > Please share it all: improvements, side effects, pros and cons, good > > and bad - then how things changed when and if you added in the ALA. > > How long did you wait to do that and what changes did you see. Guest guest
We are not done chelating our son (not even close) but I thought I'd share with you our experience. After 40 + rounds of DMSA with ALA our 5 y/o previously non-verbal child began speaking as well as writing and drawing. Many of (but not all) his stimms have gone away and he is much more compliant. Cognition has made leaps and bounds. Physically he has done wonderfully on it with the exception of yeast flares that were quite common in the beginning. He still gets them but not like they used to be. He takes biotin daily and GSE when " yeasty " now. The schedule took a couple rounds to get used to but now it's like clockwork.....no big deal. Pre-chelation my DS was considered to have moderate/severe autism...today he is one of the higher functioning kids in his class. His ATEC score went from 67 to 22 in a period of 9 months. Initially I was a bit obsessive looking for side effects or changes in his behavior. Again, yeast is the only physical symptom. I did notice that in the beginning his behavior was better during rounds than off, but eventually it smoothed out and his behavior is consistant on or off rounds. Hope this helps. Oh, and we started DMSA and added ALA 3 weeks later. Guest guest
Hi All, We are about to do round 7 of DMSA and ALA for our 6 year old 46 pound little boy. We have not seen any major " wow " although I must admit after each round I thought I saw something new. Definetely different now ,then what he was 6 rounds ago, but we are still non verbal. I am prayign that my son becomes verbal after 40 rounds like the below case. We were originally on the DAN protocol but that was brutal for my son, and thank god, Reynolds opened my eyes to the fact that our DANs protocol was wrong. We have since started on the Andy protocol of DMSA'-ALA every 3 hours and things are much much better. I feel it is too soon to tell. I am hoping to start reporting changes after at least 10 rounds. So happy that you are seeing changes so soon. Congratulations and don't stop. The best is yet to come. Thanks Joanna > > > > I would love to know how DMSA worked for your kids during chelation. > > Please share it all: improvements, side effects, pros and cons, good > > and bad - then how things changed when and if you added in the ALA. > > How long did you wait to do that and what changes did you see. Guest guest
By the 15th round my son had miraculous improvement. By the 4th round his insomnia was gone. Initially during the first 3 rounds he was very much worse. My son has had permenant gains in social interaction, his ocd is gone, he bathes, he is conversational, he gives eye contact, his constant headache is gone, his nausea is gone, his chemical sensitivity is gone (by 30 rounds), his eating disorder/can't eat any foods/food pickiness is gone, and his insomnia has come back though. He has been off all supps for two and a half years.
Guest guest
Thank you for sharing your stories... This is very good news to those like us, who just completed their first round of DMSA... Yeah! It's very encouraging. Thank you! On a 7-1/2 year old, 80 pounds, is there any hard rule of when to add in the ALA? I've seen somewhere that I should add it quickly due to his age, but then I hear to wait about 12 rounds... Anyone care to clarify for me? Thanks! Dawn
Guest guest
Thank you for sharing TJ, that is very encouraging. Our son is very high functioning, really only has SPD and possibly showing some signs of Aspergers, so I am curious to see what kind of changes we see, if any. On our bad days, I feel like cramming DMSA in him, ha ha ha. Lately though, the yeast battle produces a lot of sensory issues. Here's to hoping! Thanks again for posting your experience! > > > > I would love to know how DMSA worked for your kids during chelation. > > Please share it all: improvements, side effects, pros and cons, good > > and bad - then how things changed when and if you added in the ALA. > > How long did you wait to do that and what changes did you see. Guest guest
, I want to thank you immensely for taking the time to share your story with me, it gave me goose bumps and brought tears to me eyes! While my son is very high functioning, he too reacted to and regressed after vaccinations and any step forward, as minimal as it may be, is worth the heart ache, stress, or changes the whole family makes in order to accomplish! I am sorry to hear that unfortunate changes have occurred within the group, but I must say that if it weren't for this group (I admit to having to weed through the posts I find pertinent) I wouldn't have recovered my son to the point he is at now. In 6 months we have seen tremendous change already! I wouldn't have found the road that we are now traveling and I never ever would have known mercury to be the cause! So for that, I want to thank every member of this group, from the bottom of my heart...fairy dust and all! ha ha ha Hope is a powerful thing and without some risk, many of us would not be where we are. We are all hopeful parents with a lot of options in front of us. What works for one, might not work for all. I personally like to see studies and hear experience before diving into anything headfirst. Hence....my post. Guest guest
Thank you Maggie! It sounds like after a certain number of rounds (which I am sure varies for each child) the body burden is relieved, allowing the body to start taking care of itself. Yeast is already a major problem for us, only reinforcing the need for chelation, but I am sure we will have some struggles with that in the beginning. It's good to know that is a normal occurrence and that I should expect it. What made you add in the ALA three weeks into chelation? That piece seems to vary for each person... > > > > > > > > I would love to know how DMSA worked for your kids during > chelation. > > > > Please share it all: improvements, side effects, pros and cons, > good > > > > and bad - then how things changed when and if you added in the > ALA. > > > > How long did you wait to do that and what changes did you see. > Has > > > > anyone completed chelation here? Guest guest
Oh my, just the thought of being off all supplements is so surreal to me!! Thank you so much for sharing!! We have some off and on insomnia issues and of course, the usual food sensitivities. I have such high hopes with the AC protocol and can't wait to get started!! When looking at it before starting, it seems like such a long road, but I remind myself that it's SUCH a short amount of time in relation to our lives. > > By the 15th round my son had miraculous improvement. I too have that same question about ALA...it seems to vary for each person as to when it's added in and I feel unsure about how to proceed when we start. I will be interested to see your responses to this question. > > Thank you for sharing your stories... This is very good news to those like us, who just completed their first round of DMSA... Yeah! Guest guest
Andy's book says a couple of months to reduce body burden first. We plan on starting ALA after 8 rounds. Guest guest
They are not huge changes, but every little new thing is encouraging and makes us feel like we are moving forward, not backwards, and that is the best way to go. Guest guest
OK, thanks! I think personally I'm going to go ahead and wait until about round 9 (assuming, of course there are no issues) before adding ALA... I'd much rather play it safe. On the flip side, if all is going well and I see improvements and then they stop, I may consider adding it earlier, but not much earlier. Guest guest
For us the main reason we kept on with DMSA only for a while was we had a significant body burden of lead. Lead exposure is so wide spread now, from so many sources. Obviously no two children are poisoned in exactly the same way or to the exact same level, not to mention their differences in age, weight, metabolism, etc, which is why its different time frames and solutions for different kids. Start low and slow and be guided by your child's response more than anything. Don't worry if your experience does not match up to someone else's in exactly the same way. What matters is the general principles we are following in terms of timing of doses and doses based on weight, etc. jessicagalligani wrote: > > Dawn, > I am glad to see that others are benefiting from my question as well. > I too have that same question about ALA...it seems to vary for each > person as to when it's added in and I feel unsure about how to proceed > when we start. Side effects...hardly any. Some fatigue for me/older child. Yeast for all but we had that before chelation, occasional colds for my son but no more, he did have low fevers for a few rounds in the beginning but never since. All of these symptoms we had before chelation, and we managed them during and are either rid of them now, or managing them as we go. We did dmsa/ala from day one with my son because he had no recent mercury exposures. We had to wait three months for ala for older child and I had to wait 16 months to tolerate ala. Changes are too long to list here....I'd be here for days, but they were all good ones. No symptoms were worse than prechelation symptoms. We saw improvements on the first round. We are not completed, but round 58, 41, and 28 I have found no cons to this. > > > > > > > > > I would love to know how DMSA worked for your kids during chelation. > > Please share it all: improvements, side effects, pros and cons, good > > and bad - then how things changed when and if you added in the ALA. > > How long did you wait to do that and what changes did you see. Guest guest
I just read your entire web site page by page and I am so impressed with the thorough information you provide. I too believe that we are preventing our son from reaching the autism diagnosis!! We havne't started chelation, but just with the diet and supplements, we already are seeing tremendous change! We are so very hopeful about chelation which we plan to start probably the first week in April. Right now we have added Milk Thistle, Taurine, Moly and more vit C to his routine. We are already seeing such change, more consistency daily! His copper appeared to be high in his hair elements test, but I know that could be inconclusive since the elements are all skewed by mercury. We met the counting rules with the 11 or less " average " elements. He has exactly 11. I think he is very mild, and most people think we are seeing things, but the people who are close to us have seen and expressed witnessing his changes. I have a blog too, nowhere near as comprehensive as yours, but it's more or less our journey AS it is transpiring for us. We are still in the throws of learning and trying. I just added your site to it as a must read for anyone reading my blog. Thank you for offering such a wonderful and comprehensive place to see the facts! Feel free to check out my blog - http://grayson-youarewhatyoueat.blogspot.com/ Now that I know what our plan is for my first son who is 3 1/2. I worry about our 8 month old who I am nursing...I have 7 fillings. I am taking two Brazil nuts a day for Selenium and praying that he can better metabolize metals, but he is already showing signs of food sensitivities and possible yeast. I give him some Biotin occasionally and I avoid dairy for him. Of course, we are avoiding vaccines, but I don't know what else I can do for him other than watch him. > > > > > > I would love to know how DMSA worked for your kids during chelation. > > > Please share it all: improvements, side effects, pros and cons, good > > > and bad - then how things changed when and if you added in the ALA. > > > How long did you wait to do that and what changes did you see. Guest guest
Thank you many times over. I have spent a lot of time trying to put together out story and give honest resources for people. Everything your doing sounds right! Our doctors thought I was seeing things too, but mother didn't. She saw it. Your the mom and we know... since he met rules..the copper is falsely elevated, and this does not mean he is high copper. In a way, him being mild really makes the prognosis better. It's easier to recover them. You can treat yeast in the 8 month old. You can give him probiotics, dairy free ones, natural antifungals, and high vitamin Cod liver oil. One would keep yeast down and help protect the gut and immune function. I also find that coconut oil is great for babies, it helps get rid of yeast and provides those EFA's. The CLO helps brain function and protects some from metals. We use this with my niece. She is now 20 months old but we began treating candida in infancy. Natural antifungals can be used if the yeast gets bad. (you might already be doing all this...if so disregard) > > > > > > > > I would love to know how DMSA worked for your kids during > chelation. > > > > Please share it all: improvements, side effects, pros and cons, good > > > > and bad - then how things changed when and if you added in the ALA. > > > > How long did you wait to do that and what changes did you see. Guest guest
I have started putting a little bit of the powder from the Biotin capsules into his food, but I hate that I can't measure, so I am probably under dosing, lol. I don't want to over do it. I notice that whenever I do this, he gets a rash in his diaper area that last about a day, is that normal? I do put probiotics in his food every day, dairy free, of course. I haven't given CLO yet, but I think about it all the time. I have Nordic Naturals, but I think he is sensitive to soy so I need to find another one for him. Should I do all of this daily? Even the Biotin? I use VCO as well, for myself every day, I had started giving him a little on my finger then stopped since it is technically a tree nut and I worried about allergens. If he didn't react though, maybe its ok afterall? My other son's IgG showed sensitivity to VCO, probably because we were using it daily when we tested and with the leaky gut, everything they eat on a regular basis seems to come up on those reports. Maybe I should try it with him again too. I can't imagine it would cause the kind of reactions that wheat and dairy cause...I have been hesitant to add anything back into his diet since we removed it all and have been trying to work out the supplements. > > > > > > > > > > I would love to know how DMSA worked for your kids during > > chelation. > > > > > Please share it all: improvements, side effects, pros and > cons, good > > > > > and bad - then how things changed when and if you added in the > ALA. > > > > > How long did you wait to do that and what changes did you see. > Has > > > > > anyone completed chelation here?
