Guest guest
(6) went through this phase (of messing with his poop) so I just kept him in clothes that made his diaper inaccessible. It would invariably happen during nap-time (while I THOUGHT he was sleeping) and his room would be disgusting. It seems like he just outgrew it on his own. I think overalls worked well, (and one-peice pajamas) if I remember correctly. in Dallas RE: POOP > > > > > > Has any of your kids ever stuck their fingers in the mouth as opposed to > > painting the walls? Guest guest
Karla - you reminded me of something that has been quite commonplace in our lives: going along sofa and chair cushions sniffing...to see if he had been there or not. YUCK!!! So tell me what you did to get Noah independent!!! I WANT THAT! Re: POOP Been there, done that! I'll tell you what worked for us: Noah had about five " smearing " episodes, both in the bedroom, and in the family room. He would go weeks, and then out of the blue...he liked to walk through it, grinding it into the carpet. After spending about $60 on renting the " Rug Doctor " I decided to buy a Little Green Clean Machine. Don't you know he never did it again! I would have such a hissy fit when he did this the poor kid must have thought his mom had went 'round the bend, but it just freaked me out. There is hope for the future...Noah is now completely independent in his toileting, and aside from pooping in the pool, hasn't had an accident in months! (knock on cyberwood!) I thought the day would NEVER come, and we would be in diapers forever. It will get better Renae, and as you now know, you have plenty of company, and many more than are replying have spent time pickin' poop out of their furniture with a toothpick!! LOL! Guest guest
This brings back memories of our time with poop messing, we also used one piece sleepers to discourage the playing. Also I had to pin the zipper closed. I always told him to keep his hands out of his diapers/ pants after that, if we saw him scratching or digging down there.. Now we use the phrase no hands. stopped pretty quick with the unhappy mommy routine that accompanied the messing. Guest guest
Coincidentally today tim 'discovered' dog poop which we call doggie do-do's! For years I have said mind the doggie do, watch out, don't step in the doggie do, you get the gist! Well today I said it and he minded it! he looked down and said, yeuch, mud, yucky. So I pointed out it wasn't mud becoz he was about to poke his finger in it (I encourage tactile experiences usually!) and every doggie do on the way home (4, we counted!!) he had to stop and say yeuch, doggie do do, poohee!! sue wong > While everyone is on the subject of poop, I might as well throw my input in before topic changes. Our first three, all of whom have Down syndrome, never messed with their poop. pooped out a shiny 1994 penny one time. By some sort of coincidence, when he finds a penny to this day he brings it to me. Kristi got into a cat box once and had some adventures with that. never used to like to deal with his poop, always calling either Mom or I in for dooty. But our real poop messer was (Cri du Chat, non Ds). He went through a very brief stage (Thank Goodness!!) where he thought poop was some sort of delicacy. Mom found three diapers that had been almost completely cleaned out. I found two that way. In all five cases, the evidence was on his fingers. Oh kids. Now maybe we can move on to a sweeter topic, like Hershey, Pennsylvania (we won't be able to come but would like to hear more about that part of the country--both of us have paternal ancesters who onced lived in southern Pennsylvania). > > > Husband to > Father to the four above mentioned kids > > >

Guest guest
Hi all, Have had trouble with ds's poop for a while and it's getting to a point where I'm stressing over it as he starts kinder soon. For a while now it has been really soft and sticky, not formed, once every day/2nd day, orangy-brown colour, sometimes with what look like dark coloured-old poop on outside when turned around(he's still in nappies). The smell is horrible, smells the house out, very sickly sweet smell...also have found what looks like 5mm poop covered threads throughout but am certain these are not pin worms. If only I could at least firm it up a bit, as I'm sure his aid will have a hard time of it and teacher will most likely not be able to tolerate the smell. Need help right now. Donna. Guest guest
Hi Dana and others who responded. His poop problem didn't actually occur until I started him on chelation nearly 2 yrs ago, seemed that too much C and Mag' made it worse after he's had too much fish oil..BUT he has been off ALA and all supps for 2 mths now and things are the same..forgot to mention that it goes from an orangy bown to a 'ate too many carrots or oranges' colour, although he doesn't eat either, and I can't remember the last time he were constipated, if he ever was. Sometimes I find 3-4 full corn pieces as well, even though I can't remember him even having corn. This has been going on for nearly 2 years but has steadily gotten worse and what I find strange is that it is still the same when everything is stopped. What exactly is a Carotene conversion problem?..could this be caused from excerss vit' A in the past? For a while now it has been really soft and sticky, not formed, once every day/2nd day, orangy-brown colour, At my house, this was caused by too much vitamin C, yeast die off, and also carotene conversion issues. Do you give him a lot of orange or green foods, or corn? >>also have found what looks like 5mm poop covered threads throughout but am certain these are not pin worms. When my son's bm looked like it contained strings of melted cheese, it meant he had a yeast overgrowth problem, or yeast was dying off. Dana Make 7 your homepage and win a trip to the Quiksilver Pro. Guest guest
I would try digestive enzymes or increasing the dosage if he's already on it. My mom has to keep upping the enzymes - I'm assuming it's because your body starts to make less. Vit A is converted beta-carotene, so if someone can't convert carotene to A, then he would be deficient in A. And the person would have yellow skin/palms/bottom of feet for retaining carotene (not a serious condition). I can't remember which organ is responsible for the conversion (it's not the liver)... What exactly is a Carotene conversion problem?..could this be caused from excerss vit' A in the past? I don't know about " too much vitamin A " . If the body does not properly convert carotenes into vitamin A, the carotenes can build up and cause problems. When my son ate a carotene food [everything orange and green, several reds and yellows], it actually caused what appeared to be a brain poisoning. Nasty issues! Anyway, according to a book I have, carotene conversion requires zinc, vitamin C, and thyroid hormone. My son also required selenium, which does support the thyroid.
