Guest guest Posted March 3, 2004 Report Share Posted March 3, 2004 ia, In my opinion, Plaster casts can definately help maintain growth until Mia can get more growth on her side..Casts cant correct a spine with structural problems..These structural anomolies will make the curve grow crooked, regardless.. Thats what we are using the casts for. Olivias curves will never be corrected, but with these casts we are maintaining her as best we can, until her spine is mature..Then she will have surgery. What do I go under on the site to find out what Drs. are where and who will cast?? Financially I am afraid we may have to go through Shriners. Does anyone know of this? Guest guest Posted March 3, 2004 Report Share Posted March 3, 2004 ia, I have Blue Cross PPO and can go anywhere, after seeing 3 Dr's here in California with our "PPO" we chose Shriners in SLC and got the best care I could ever want. The hospital is beautiful and the staff is unbelievable. Don't worry about the care there, I couldn't ask for anything better. You can be rich or poor, they don't care. Guest guest Posted March 4, 2004 Report Share Posted March 4, 2004 Hi ia, I take my daughter to a Shriners Hospital and I love them I've had her to 5 different doc in two different childerens Hospital and the Shriners are the best I talk to my drivers my local Shrine club they take me to our apts. and they have told me that the Shriner Hospital spend thounds of dollars ayear for reseaches to help find new ways of helping childeren. So if you have to turn to them for help you will be in good hands. my local drivers say alot of people think the Shriners Hospitals are for low-income family's but that is not true they will help your child if they can no matter what your income is we have good health Ins. they pay for what our Ins. does'nt cover. I missed what state you live in but you just need to find a shriners that might be close to you and call them and they will ask some questions and make you an apt. to see if they can help and if they can they will exept you If you have any questions or need any # let me know I take to the Shriners in Erie,PA. her Doc is Dr. and he has in a plaster cast. good luck and best wishes, Bridgette Re: ia Thank you . She is extremely stiff in the muscles of her arms and even worse in her leg muscles. She is 6 years old and cannot sit on her own, cannot crawl, cannot walk. She has also got heavy metal toxicity as determined by hair analysis a few years ago. So we are trying to determine whether her cerebral palsy symptoms are caused by the heavy metal content in her brain. She did not develop autism as such....but she does battle to concentrate on a specific task for long periods of time. Dr Cutler's suggestion to research Minamata disease was also very informative and helpful. I started her on the DMSA and ALA about 5 weeks ago (bear in mind that she was purely on a single dose of DMSA 3 times per week for about 5 months last year......I know wrong protocol). She is currently on 20mg DMSA and 20mg ALA and she weighs 18kg. What is the most that I can eventually increase to? Also, how long will it take to see improvements if it is the metals causing the problem? I am worried that the metals may have already caused damage to the brain! I am also worried that because her the muscles in her arms and legs have been contracted for so long while she has been growing, that even by getting the metal out her muscles will stay like that. As she has been growing her bones have been growing, but not her muscles. She is spastic in her arms and legs and no trunk control. She has also got strabismus. My children do not have this issue, but I did have a few kids with muscle issues, and carnitine was very helpful. >>She has also got strabismus. One of my kids had this problem.
