Hi Shirley,

For most people chromium picolinate and chelated chromium will be absorbed

about the same. Some people may find that the picolinate form is more

absorbable. I once had a chromium deficiency and had to go through several

different types before I finally found that the picolinate form worked best

for me. From my own experience and from what I've read, it seems that the

picolinate form is more easily absorbed. You may want to experiment to see

which works best for you.

I asked the same thing a little while ago... he told me that the

chrominum piccolinate works the best. So, I got the Chrominum piccolinate

and its good. I take about 400 mcg. It may take me a while to see the

effect. Hope this helps for ya.

My ND recommended that I supplement with chromium for a few months

(due to diabetes running my family) but we ended our session before

getting into how much I should take daily.

Well, if you have a tendency to eat avoids like wheat/corn then your need

goes up. If you have a history of diabetes in your family, which you have.

It is really hard to tell - Best bet is to call your ND, since the

recommendation is included in the fee you had to pay, but have a feeling

that even he doesn't know the correct dosage. Hard to tell. I'd say 1 with

each meal and see if you feel any difference. Fish oil is beneficial too.

I'm not eating much in the way eating avoids now, but have in

the past, which I suspect is the reason for the recommendation.

That and the diabetes.

He said that I would need to supplement for a few months, to

build up my reserves; not long-term supplementation, though.

I have another appointment in a couple of weeks, but I didn't

really want to wait. Additionally, I'm of the persuasion that

I prefer to be informed about the whats, wherefores & whys of

what I'm taking - instead of blindly following. Also, my

" one a day " vitamins include 120 mcg of chromium. I don't want

to add a separate supplement if it's not necessary.

how deficient you are and 2) how many carbs your body is metabolizing for

energy.

Also, I think another factor you must consider is whether or not you admire

Snufflelufagus. Think about it.

how deficient you are and 2) how many carbs your body is metabolizing for

energy.

Also, I think another factor you must consider is whether or not you admire

Snufflelufagus. Think about it.

Yes. I'd read about the DNA damaging effects of picolinate, yet I still see

it being sold in HFSs everywhere. If it is published enough for most of us

to have heard that, why do they continue to sell this form of chromium in

" Health Food " stores?

I did the picolinate form for about two years, as a mostly ignorant weight

trainer pre-BTD. 20-21 I think. Gave it up. I went into the chromiacin

brand, bound to naicin. That stuff rocked, cost more than other forms. I

have settled into another niacin-bound form of chromium, generic brand

called " GTF Chromium " (simple enough). It works well for me. There is a

patent on a form of niacin-bound chromium, but there is more than one

niacin-bound chromium.

Seems to be pretty reliable that vitamin/minerals extracted from whole food

sources are better than isolates or synthetics.

Glucose Tolerance Factor (GTF) Chromium helps increase insulin

sensitivity (a good thing). The key is to get the GTF variety, rather

that the picolinate or polynicotinate varieties. The yeast-derived

supplements are the best. Chromium picolinate has actually shown some

carcinogenicity in recent studies involving high doses, as used in

diabetics, and should therefore be avoided. The dose is 200-1000mcg per

day, depending on your level of insulin resistance. The 200 is a

maintenance dosage, and the 1000 is a treatment dosage; so, you can work

within that knowledge. Perhaps you could talk to about getting

the New Chapter product-a superior choice.

Just wondering if anyone has done a de-tox before starting the ER4YT lifestyle

change eating? It helped me out... with going cold turkey with foods.

Every nutrient is essential for balance and long term health.

Most supplements are difficult to digest and absorb due to their inorganic

structure.

All essential minerals are called essential for a reason, yes, but most

people do not have to supplement chromium although they do selenium.

Yes, you would give chromium picolinate.

Dr Peatfield recommends 120 in his book, so that's what I am on.

Dr Peatfield also recommends 30/60mgs CoEnzyme Q10 - which is

the maintenance dose. I disagree with this small amount for people with

metabolic problems, they need HIGH doses of CoQ10. My husband takes 300mgs

daily without any problem in order to keep his cholesterol down - which it

does, and he uses this along with vitamin B3 (Niacin) at 350mgs daily.
