Hi Zurama,

I'm curious. Is this at your child's school? I'd be talking to the

principal pretty quick it it were mine. This is absolutely insane,

especially in this day and age when they try to protect everyone,

including the cock roaches int the kitchens' feelings. I'd love to be

able to give some input to the person who came up with this not so

brilliant idea!

At our school, we have some kids come into the office and do the shredding.

They have a blast and very private away from other kids to pick on them. How

sad. That might be a nice suggestion?

Not Zurama,

But the special ed kids cleaning up is not unusual.  My husband is a high school

teacher and this used to happen at his school until he mentioned to an

administrator that as a parent of a child in the special ed department that this

was not acceptable.  The difference between my husband's work and this is when

the kids did the work.  In our district it was after lunch was over.  To me,

both scenarios are not ok.  It is not ok for the special ed kids to be subjected

to other kids to be mean and mock them and it is not ok for them to save the

district money and clean up after the regular kids.  This story has so many

levels that we all need to ask our districts.

If you have video of them using kids with disabilities picking up trash and

other kids mocking them, this is a huge story there is no need to worry about

On Friday when I found out, I showed up at the school and asked for

permission to sit in the cafeteria with my girls and they denied me entry.

I asked them why not since they were in school not prison and she said

that parents were not allowed on campus during class or lunch.

Is that weird or what? Didn't they used encourage parents to visit?

They are denying you your rights as a parent.   I really hope you stop arguing

with the district and get a good news organization to help you fight this (and

my husband is a high school teacher, this is wrong on so many levels)

Unfortunately, that is becoming the norm due to safety concerns. It

used to be a parent could walk in anytime of the day. Then they started

making them check in at the office. Now, many schools you can't even go

into your child's classroom without an invitation. It got this way in

the school district where we used to live. I was just thankful that we

had pulled ours out to homeschool. There is no way there were going to

keep me out of the school my child was attending unless I had an

invitation!!! Uh Uh! Much of the concern is about security and

predators supposedly. But, I think it is also convenient for the school

to not have outside witnesses. Sorry guys, I have a really bad

impression of public school after my daughter's 2 year stint there and

the reports of friends and family who still use them (including friends

who are employed by schools).

I'd call ahead by days and see if the principle will let you sit with

your kids at lunch if you have made a previous appointment. Just tell

them that you want to be able to experience the lunch room experience

first hand so you can better relate to your children and their day.

This is happening at Mickie's sister's Junior High School. Mickie

sister took the videos. I didn't want to say anything until I had

proof. I wish there was a way to contact the parents. Once the school

knows this is known they are going to hide it.

Where is this? I am hearing a lot of it going on in a school district

here in WA state and parents are picketing.... I can't believe this

is happening to disabled children.
