We are trying Taurine now. No affect yet - it's been about two weeks. Started at

1500mg a day ( three doses of 500 mg) but now I'm using 2000mg a day. It seems

there may have been a slight reduction in the number os absence seizures per

day. My son has started to mumble now when he has a seizure. He seems to be

repeating numbers which is something he normally does to self soothe anyway. I'm

not sure if this indicates anything at all. I'm wondering if he is trying to

comfort himself and relax out of the seizure. This number mumbling starting when

I increased the Taurine dosage an extra 500 mg. We had a bit of discussion about

Taurine on the list a few weeks back when I began trying it so you might want to

check the archive messages to read more on this subject.

Good Luck... keep us posted on what you are trying and what effect you are

getting if any.

I'm probably not a person to get advice from. I am just feeling my way in the

dark for my son. The Taurine is not a prescription medication. It is an Amino

-Acid food supplement. You can purchase it at a Vitamin Store. I have heard that

some brands are better - though I don't have any specifics. I just use the

Vitamin Shoppe Brand for my son at present. I'm sure others on the list are more

knowledgeable. I hope you have some sucess soon! Good luck to you.

I just wanted to say thank you for the response. I am very

concerned about anything that might help or harm me in any way. I am willing

to try anything if my epitologist referes it to me for i trust he has my best

interest in mind.

Again, thank you.

I don't have the time to look for it, but I did see something about it on an

MD's website under the treatment section. I think it was from Prohealth

website. Can't remember which MD. I am going to buy it and take it because it

extends the life of cells, and we have a problem with increased and early cell

death. My only concern is that it can cause vasodilation, which could not be

good for me, since I used to get a lot of migraines prior to taking topomax.

From what I have read about people who take it, you don't take it every day,

so it still may be ok to take. I do take another antioxidant intermittantly

that can cause vasodilation (pycnogonol, for my skin and antiaging) and I seem

to be able to not have any side effects. I have been waiting for it to become

available. From what I have read online, it is supposed to be great for

decreasing cell death. Any other info from others would be appreciated.
