Re: Brand of distilled water for Ojibwa tea

I haven't used distilled with tea, but do for hydrogen peroxide. I did

find that the off name brands aren't as trustworthy. I can usually tell

by the taste of the distilled water. I really shouldn't taste tangy or

almost metallic. Using a good brand, I use Ozarka now, seems to work

better with the h2o2. I suspect the distilling could be suspect, as

h2o2 is best taken in water free of mineral content - since the extra

oxygen is reactive. Not a chemist, but the best I could gather from my

reading. So, if I were going to brew a tea with specifically distilled

water, I'd buy a name brand and not Always Save, Best Choice or whatever

the store brand is. Oh, I also found that the Whole Foods distilled

water was good.

I think the tangy/metallic taste could be due to the water turning acidic.

Distilled water absorbs carbon dioxide from the air, so the company could've

not had the water bottled for a while. Just my guess.

I had distilled water do the same thing when stored at room temp. It was

like a year old too. Now I keep it in the frige (not sure if it helps if my

theory is right).

It will say on the bottle if it is distilled. I've not seen a water yet

that didn't say its form - distilled, RO, spring, etc. I wouldn't cover

with aluminum foil. Foil is known to break down with contact with

certain acids; the aluminum is not desirable. See if you can find a

quality glass jar that has an acceptable lid. We use mineral water

bottles here - for glass bottle storage of other drinkables.
