I think if you make the group private, it doesn't show up. I have a Shaklee

team group, which is a private group, and I have Googled things before I

know were posted..just to check....and haven't seen it come up.

I don't mind though, that information helps tons of other parents.

But I don't know of any way you can retract what has already been

posted. You can go delete all your posts but they are probably backed

up somewhere on some server and may still come up on google.

Yeah well I am not a 16 year old girl nor am I THAT scared of things.

Kudos to you for being able to keep everything so secret, but my word, it's

a bit ridiculous sometimes how scared people are. Maybe just the different

places we live.

It's a group for goodness sakes! Do you really think stalkers are

looking for people on an autism group? ly they are browsing chat rooms,

myspace, and facebook where it's much easier to find people.

Sorry, but to me it's ridiculous to get all worked up about group messages

showing up in Google. ((rolling eyes))

As I posted before. I beileve that if the owner would put this group on

private, it wouldn't be searchable. I may be wrong on that, but that's what I

am thinking. If it is able to go private and the group messages are not

shown, is that a big deal? You can see the group description on the home page.

People can leave the group if they feel it's not for them.

I just don't worry myself with what others MAY do.

Actually, I keep things private enough so you can't find any of that -

no phone, etc., for me without having to pay a service fee for it.

Google maps can't even accurately locate our house!!! :-) One map did

get within 4 miles of our house - good luck!!! We also don't put our

name on our mailbox - at the recommendation of our postman, just the

number, and the mailbox is not visible from the main road. Does make it

difficult for those who are potential buyers trying to get an anonymous

look at it though.

Those services that charge for your info you can't get rid of. But, the

free sites, you can keep your info from. People who thought internet

identity disclosing was safe are now mostly changing their minds.

Stalkers can and will find you via the internet, and many people have

been hurt by giving too much info on the internet. I do think that

internet safety is something to get in a tizzy over. It has been

mentioned here in the past not to identify your children, or yourself,

for security reasons. It is good to keep the board open to passers-by

who may benefit from the info. But, too much info is never a good thing.

They did a recent news article where a 16 yo girl volunteered to let a

policeman try to trace her from her MySpace or FaceBook account (can't

remember which). She thought she was being very careful, no last name

or identifying info. It took him exactly 20 minutes to come up with her

last name, school, home address AND picture of her in a bikini!!!! He

used no special police programs or anything, but followed her online

trail like a stalker or predator would . Boy, mom and daughter were both

shocked!

As for changing your name so you are using an alias, you can do that

through the identities option at and without having

to unsub and resub to your groups. I've done it many times and use

three different aliases. Sometimes I even switch between them within a

group randomly. I always sign the same though, so as not to confuse

list members.

LOL......that was funny.

ly I am more worried about treating my child than I am someone reading

about how I am treating him from a group message. Plus, they'd have to be

specifically looking for me to get any info, don't you think? I doubt we are

worth THAT much effort! LOL!

I belong to over 150 and numerous message boards and have for

over 5 years. (most of them are wahm and business groups) My business has a

website and it has my picture and phone #! Here check it out..

_http://www.wellnessiseasy.com_ (http://www.wellnessiseasy.com) (click about

me to see

our picture) I also have a myspace page.

Haven't had a problem yet and I am certainly not going to say I will never

have a problem. I just don't worry about the silly stuff when I have more

important issues to deal with.

I just moved into this house and I had to laugh. Every window and door had

a stick or pole holding it shut...on top of locks and a burglar alarm! (I

rarely even set the alarm) I just rolled my eyes as I threw the sticks and

poles away. Paranoia gets carried away sometimes and interferes with other

important stuff. Now this also depends on where you live, your neighborhood

and

such and also your age. I know my mother is paranoid over every little

noise! (she also has a burglar alarm)

So I will worry more about my child more than I am going to worry about a

group message showing up on Google! Which by the way, someone would have to

specifically be looking for you to get info this way. I for one am not THAT

interesting! LOL!

Hi Emma,

This is an open forum. That means that anyone just stopping by can read

messages without being a member. Posts are also referenced on Onibasu.

I've some some sites actually steal and reference these messages also.

This is all reason to not use your real name, name your kids, or

anything else you want kept private. The only way to delete the

messages from this site I believe is to have the moderator delete all

your open messages. When you join a group you can see if they are

open messages or not by whether you can read messages before you are a

member. If you can, than anything you post on that board can be accessed.

Sorry for the frustration.

Go to your " My Groups " page at , and you should be able to set up a

new identity and switch to it without unsubscribing. Unfortunately, all

the posts you have made until now will have your name. :-(

You can delete your own messages I believe. There is a delete button

next to the reply button bottom of page. Might take a few weeks

though.

Its also rediculous why you cant leave well enough alone. Why bother

arguing on this thread? I dont think a concerned Mom should be

ridiculed or made to feel like an idiot. Lay off already.

I'd agree with that. If people are interested in what we have to say,

they can join the group. Its not like that's a hard thing to do.....

There may be some people on the list who would rather that a former spouse or

partner know details about their lives or doesn't want their kids to read about

their own poop issues and meltdowns once they recover. Dana is an attorney and

she identifies her children by number rather than name.

Yeah well I am not a 16 year old girl nor am I THAT scared of things.

Kudos to you for being able to keep everything so secret, but my word, it's

a bit ridiculous sometimes how scared people are. Maybe just the different

places we live.

===>Bty, we are all paranoid, paranoia exists on a continuum. Paranoia is

what makes us not keep our money on the front porch. As with all human traits a

little paranoia is adaptive, a lot of paranoia will start thought processes that

interfere with living.

And freaky things can happen. Years ago an ingenius paranoid schizophrenic

patient managed to hack into the hospital personnel files and look my address up

on the hospital computer. As I was watching for my dd to come home from school

I looked out and saw him pacing in front of my house. We had to move.

However, most of the time people are much more interested in their own life

than they are yours.

This is true. Messages will also show up on google and other search

engines.

>>Posts are also referenced on Onibasu.

This is also true. I believe the owner of the Onibasu site will

remove messages if you ask tho, because I know of some people who have

requested that.

Yep, that too. And these messages are not so easy to remove. Many of

those sites don't even have someone to contact.

It is also good if you don't want CPS folks knocking on your door,

because you are chelating without a doctor, or for whatever other reason.

Nope, everyone can delete their own messages. They will be deleted

from the archives of this group only.

Yes, before joining groups, check on the home page to see if the

messages are available for viewing to non-members.

See if you can change your profile.

If you can't, then set up a new account with and transfer all

your groups, address book etc over to the new one.

I nkow you can change the display of your name for your user though,

so you can remove your last name I think. Like mine shows " Jan " but

not my last name, because I changed the display.
