Guest guest
I think my son is getting hypoglycemic when we have him on ALA. I have researched this and came up with this rare " insulin autoimmune syndrome " . I am not sure what to do because he cannot tolerate DMSA and ALA seems to be causing hypoglycemia. I am still not exactly sure about the hypoglycemia, but two hours after ALA doses he seems really whiney, cranky and moody, so if it isn't redistribution, the only other thing I can think it may be is the fact that he hasn't eaten and it's making him nuts. It does go away after he has eaten. I would be happy to hear any of your thoughts on how to proceed. Also, why would a child not tolerate even the slightest bit of DMSA (5mg) without throwing himself on the floor with a stomach ache?
Guest guest
Did a quick hunt at Moria's site - found this...unsure how helpful it is...I would try a search with things like " dmsa ala normal (or) tolerate " - for instance, people tend to ask " is this normal? " or say " ....won't tolerate.... " lolol...wishing you the best answers, the other elizabeth ========== /message/21859 (snipped) DMSA Changes the side effects of ALA, but not always for the better. Most people like DMSA/ALA better. A few like ALA alone better. I don't know why this is, but if the side effects are really bothersome I generally suggest trying it the other way. DMPS + ALA is also again very different from DMSA + ALA or ALA alone - offering a third option. Unfortunately a more expensive one than the other two. It does go away after he has eaten. Might be yeast overgrowth also. Dana
Guest guest
My first thought is that my son went crazy with yeast overgrowth when we started ALA. Crankiness is yeast related with him. So is anxiety. He gets wound up so tight he is about to pop, and it's YEAST, I tell him. He is 19 now, so he doesn't listen to me very well, and says it is not yeast, well it is! The tummy pain concerns me. That's not normal. I would back off and give digestive enzymes with food and check for food allergies with an IGG food allergy test, then once the tummy was good and pain free, check dmsa again. Food allergies can cause irritation in the stomach lining causing vitamins that would normally be tolerated, not to be tolerated, so sometimes you have to do a little work on the gut before you can start chelating. It doesn't have to be perfect, I just don't feel comfortable chelating with stomach pain and I think that needs to be addressed as to why first. I don't think stomach pain should be ignored. In our house it was a sign that our daughter had developed gastritis from too many proteolytic enzymes (she was on A LOT). It could be that he doesn't tolerate dmsa, but I would look at the food allergies first because you could fix that possibly with enzymes and diet changes and then use dmsa. Hi , What makes you think that your son gets hypoglycemic on ALA? What are his symptoms? Cases of hypoglycemia often are caused by adrenal insufficiency so if your son's symptoms are the result of hypoglycemia while on ALA, consider giving him additional adrenal support while on and off chelation rounds (ACE, licorice, Vit C, B-complex...) Maybe I am not giving enough ACE. Thanks, I didn't know it was related to adrenals. > > >
