My joints would ache from time to time, but I just assumed I was getting arthritis, my mother and her sisters are affected by arthritis, figured I was next. Not quite sure if its related, but it could be. I was also tired, but I always needed 8 hours of sleep, even as a child, so it didn't seem out of the ordinary. I seem to be less tired since I started with the prednisone last week, but my doctor did say it could cause insomnia, so we will wait and see. thanks! The hepatologist that I have asked my pcp to refer me to at Vandy is my friend's daughter's doc. She has been under the care of docs at Vandy since she was 3 months old, first under the ped GI clinic, and then under the regular GI clinic when she turned 19 two years ago. She has already had one liver transplant and is getting near being put on the list for a second transplant. My friend sings praises for Dr. Raiford and Vandy. Guest guest Posted April 18, 2003 Report Share Posted April 18, 2003 J, Life is often quite ironic, is it not? My husband is not an alcoholic, but he does love his occasional beer or margerita. I have never really been much of a drinker. My only indulgence was one or two of the really yummy, sweet drinks such as pina colada, once or twice a year. After I first had pancreatitis in 2000, I gave up alcohol totally even though my doctor said alcohol was not a problem because, after all, my pancreas is perfectly healthy. Anyway, giving it up was easy because it was never a big deal for me anyway. I told my husband that his weekly beers must have pickled my pancreas! Then when I found out in January that I have AIH, I just had to laugh. I have had less alcohol than anyone in my family and I'm the one that ends up with liver disease and pancreatitis! I often wonder how many doctors/nurses think I am lying when I tell them that I do not drink. It doesn't really matter because I know I don't drink and I'm pretty sure that the 2-4 drinks a year I had prior to 2000 are not the cause of the pancreatitis or liver disease. I often joke that maybe if I'd drank more the alcohol would have helped to keep my immune system from attacking my body! Anyway, I just find it humorous the way things often work out! As for vices, we do all seem to have them. For years, my drug of choice was food! If not for the gastric bypass, it still would be! Hope you are having a good day.
