Round one of AC protocol complete today and a success!!!  Thanks so much for

night time dosing tips.  It did actually get easier the second and third nights!

One question - the boys did fine for this round.  No negatives but no WOWs

either.  When do people start seeing good results?  My boys are nonverbal so

what kind of good things do I look for?  What good results have you all seen

early on and how quickly and at what dose 1/8, 1/4, or 1/2 mg per pound of body

weight?

Great Dana! We saw some initial great results with a couple rounds

of DMSA, then had to quit that because it was not well tolerated. I

have not seen the same noticeable results with ALA although I know

what it is doing (pulling mercury) and he is continually improving at

a slow rate. I can only imagine that it will take quite awhile for

my son's body to recouperate from all the collateral damage mercury

and lead have done.

FYI, after a long break from both supplements and chelating (2+

months), there were noticeable improvements. I attribute this to the

liver being less stressed with all the supplements and chelators and

at the same time, the body being able to revive itself while not

exposed to allergens and stressors. I think it's good to take a

break after 4-6 months to really " notice " the changes.

Dana,

Most people see something by 5-10 rounds, takes a " little " longer for others.

And the norm for a lot of kids is to see improvements about 3-7 days after a

round.

This was not true for us, we saw all improvements while on the round and would

lose some of improvements, off the round.

We started with 1/4 mg per kg of DMSA and after a few rounds with no

side effects, upped our son to 1/2 mg and then after about 4 months

added ALA (we were concerned about possible mercury exposure, which is

why we waited on the ALA). We currently do 12.5 mg of DMSA and 12.5

mg of ALA with our 50lb son.

I based upping the dosage on how well he was tolerating each round.

Sometimes, I reduce the ALA to see if I can make him seem less tired

on round, but now we're pretty steady at the 12.5. Sometimes we do

better on round, sometimes better off.

Except for potty training a few weeks after the addition of ALA, we

have never had any big Wows...just little things that have added up to

big improvements. We actually took him skiing yesterday - something

we did not think was possible - and he did great. My husband and I

both teared up...

One other interesting thing to note is that we continue on despite

never having big pulls on a UTM test. We can tell he is detoxing by

the improvements he makes.

FWIW,

This is usually the case for us. What did you do to maintain the gains

off round? She is only getting ALA right now and we've done 18 rounds.

Should I add a bit of DMSA back in? We have been doing every weekend,

but took this weekend off due to bad pinworms.

Thanks

Hi Dana and AM gang,

I think we added ALA at around our 9th Round (we had started in March

of 2007 and it was late Summer when we added the ALA). Our little guy

was a little over 3.5 years old and within 3 weeks he was daytime

potty trained (he is newly 5 and still wears " Goodnites " to bed, but

many of my NT daughter's boy friends do too, so we are not worrying

about it right now). It was August and he was about to move into the

next class at school. The change in him was so pronounced that it

seemed obvious to us that it was the chelation - he had not seemed at

all ready at the beginning of that Summer.

Actually, it was kind of funny, because he was attending school 3 days

at a community preschool and 2 days at his Special Ed preschool and he

" worked " his teachers at Special Ed for gummy bears in exchange for

going potty even though he was fully trained at the other school.

(This was pre-SCD.)

I wouldn't be surprised if you started seeing good things by March! I

really find that the only super-difficult part of this is the fatigue

I have during rounds. I used to set two alarm clocks but now use the

timer on my phone, which has made things much easier. I just wish I

didn't get such a boost of energy after the midnight dose! I'll be

exhausted, and then I give him the dose and I'm wide awake. The second

and third nights are easier. We just started a round today, so I am

glad there's good TV tonight. lol
