Yes we use it. We use 100mg, twice a day usually.

I think of CoQ10 generally being used to increase energy and cellular function,

if there are suspected mitochondrial issues.

For us, CoQ10 has been a critical addition due to serious fatigue issues.  It

helps him maintain a consistent energy level throughout the day.  Prior to this

supplement his energy level waxed and waned dramatically.

There are two kinds of CoQ10.  Unbiquione and ubiquinol.  Ubiquinol may only be

available through a doctor's prescription though. ?

We use Pure Encapsulations brand currently which is free of all the major

allergens.  30 mg is his dose and he weighs 22 pounds.

Hope it's helpful.

I have used co-q-10 for several years now. I would start with a low

dose, see how he tolerates it and gradually increase the dose until I

felt satisfied we were at a good dose.

Some stuff I know about Co-q-10:

It is the co-enzyme for melatonin. It is produced in the body in a

complex 17 step process, which means if there is a bottleneck at any

stage of production the body can end up not making enough. So it's

common for people to not be getting enough. About 12 hours after you

take co-q-10, the body begins producing more melatonin. So it is best

to take it early in the day, around 12 hours before you expect to go

to bed -- though I seem to typically go to sleep more like 14 hours

after I take it. Taking it in the evening can cause insomnia because

it is basically a brain chemical that is part of the waking up process.

I have taken high doses of it for a long time to help rebuild my heart

and lungs after a lifetime of serious health problems. I take a lot

less of it now than I used to. These days, I take between 30mg and

150mg per day. I used to take 200mg to 600mg, which was a very

expensive habit. I used to be unable to tolerate melatonin. It left

me unable to fully wake up for up to 3 days. These days, I take

melatonin regularly in the evening and tolerate it just fine. For

someone who does not tolerate melatonin pills, I recommend taking

co-q-10 in the morning to help straighten out the sleep-wake cycle of

the brain. For a long time, that was what I had to do. My sleep-wake

cycle is a lot better these days but still has a way to go to get back

to where I feel it should be.

Also, some people report that it absorbs better when taken with other

oil-based supplements, like vitamins A and E and fish oil, and/or with

a fatty/oily food.
