Guest guest
Hey guys, Just wanted to say hello and let you all know it's nice to have access to a group of people sharing similar medical issues. A short bio on me, lol. For my 40th Bday lst month I decided I wanted a slew of bloodwork including total T, Pro, LH, FSH, PSA, etc. Well, surprise! Turns out I am low normal (227 T)and everything else was WNL. Nothing high or low, pretty much in the middle of the labs range. ('cept my cholesterol but that's for another talk show). So all thing point to me being primary. I am an Operating Room Nurse that specializes in Urological procedures so I have access to quite a few Urologists. I initially chose to see the surgeon I got along with very well and he started me on Androgel 1% 5gm QD. After about 2 weeks, I was not feeling any different (initial symptoms loss of libido, fatigue, mild depression, general malaise)and during a case with one of his senior partners whom happens to be our hospitals " Chief of Surgery " , I decided to ask his opinion on treatment. He's a good surgeon and I get along well with him too so it started as more of a " do you concur with Dr. X's choice of treatment since I am not feeling any different? " He immediately decided that he was diverting me to him as my doc (they are in the same practice and the first doc is leaving anyway so no big deal) and started me on T injections 400mg/week x 3 weeks, then wait 2 weeks and draw blood pre- injection. Two weeks into it we had another " hallway consult " and I told him I was not feeling anything very remarkable after the first two injections so at my third visit he decided to add another 3 weeks of 400mg/week injections and then wait 2 weeks and test me. In total, that will be T400/week x6 and then a 2 week follow up for bloodwork. Now that I have bored everyone with that long synopsis, I can get to my question. I had my third injection friday, am starting to feel better on all issues (libido actually came around after the first shot) and now I am concerned slightly that 6 weeks of 400mg of T could have any neg effects? Being an RN, I figured I could research the implications, adverse effects, etc., but after lurking in this group for a bit I think I would rather have " real world " experiences/info. Thanks for reading the long post. If anyone ever has any Q's re: Uro surgical procedures, please feel free to ask so that I may give back a fraction of what I have taken in from this group! regards,
