Guest guest
My son, now 15.5yo, was diagnosed in April with constitutional growth delay and delayed puberty. It was felt by the endocrinologist that puberty was surely beginning and if we didn't see adequate progression by October we should call back. I am very open with my son, I asked him how things were progressing and he felt the whole puberty issue was " definately " moving along. Last week we went to the pediatrician for a routine check up and she felt a follow up with endocrinology was needed. Keep in mind that everything has always looked anatomically " normal. " She said that while my son definately did have the appropriate enlargement of the testis and penis, he does not have any pubic hair. Not in the genital region, under his arms, on his legs, not anywhere. She explained the two parts of male puberty: gonadarche and adrenarche. The part that usually comes first, adrenarche, is missing with my son. We also have an underlying genetic metabolic disorder that we know my son inherited but only shows soft signs of, it is called a mitochondrial disorder. We are going to see endocrinology next week but I hate to be unprepared. Excluding the mitochondrial disorder, Has anyone here ever dealt with this issue, and what was it caused from. And does anyone know some of the appropriate questions for me to present to the endocrinologist? I will greatly appreciate ANY suggestions or comments.
