Vitamin D3 blood levels are more optimum in the 60-100 ng/mL range (most people are well below the bottom end of the lab reference range of 32) and a good intake of K2 (preferably M2-MK7 variant) seems to prevent if not reverse bone spurs. Both are needed for regular bone turnover and when missing lowers bone density and results in calcium deposits elsewhere in the body. My two cents for today. -- Steve - dudescholar4@... Guest guest
Mike I was on TRT for about 13 years before having to have back surgery due to degeneration and arthritis. Had back surgery a year ago L-4 L-5 and now 99% pain free. All my joint pain was from arthritis not TRT according to my doctors. Guest guest
Mike The recovery time for my surgery was 6 weeks. Did some light duty at 4 weeks. Had to wait 3 months before going back on arthritis med's and then started PT. After PT I'm 99% pain free. Guest guest
Lara, I am wondering the same thing about a link between arthritis and scoliosis. I do know that the stress on our backs will increase the chances of arthritis due to increased stress on the non-fused vertebrae as well as the sometimes abnormal movement of those same vertebrae. That being said, I am 50 years old and they have only found mild arthritic changes in my lower lumbar unfused vertebrae. I do have arthritis in many joints in my body, shoulders, elbows, knees and feet, none of which is too bad at this point. I would think it unusual for someone your age to be experiencing arthritis and I am wondering do you have arthritis in any other joints besides your spine? Mine started in my finger and toe joints of all places, and then spread over time to my knees, thumbs, and elbows. It may flair up for a month or three and then stop bothering me for several months. Very odd. I am truly sorry that you are having to deal with this and hope that you are able to find help with physical therapy or other interventions that will help slow things down. I have read that Vitamin D and C are helpful in treating the inflammation as well as glucosamine and chondroitin. You might want to look into nutritional and other options to try and maintain your joint health. Best of luck, Jeanne Re: Arthritis of the spine Hi , I'm Lara and was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was 13 and had surgery when I was 15. I am now 28 and just recently have been having left shoulder pain. So I got sent to a scoliosis Dr. referred to by my peds. scolosis Dr. and after finding nothing related from my back to my shoulder pain...he did find some arthritis starting in my upper back. Although this isn't causing my shoulder pain...but he informed me may cause me some other pain in the future! Great! Just want a 20 year old wants to hear that they are already starting to get Arthritis. I would of asked more questions but I didn't really know for sure about it until this last appt. I had with another dr. about my shoulder and he mentioned all my back dr. found was some arthritis starting. But I'm interested to know if Scoliosis patients tend to get more arthritis and why. I feel like I'm starting to fall apart. After my surgery at the age of 15 I have been doing good...now I find out Arthritis is starting and this shoulder pain may be related to carpal tunnel. I'm right handed and its my left hand that may have it. I'm blaming my parents for giving me this horrible genes!! Good luck with everything. If you have any questions feel free to ask! Today, my physical therapist was pressing on my back and said that I have arthritis in my back. I tried looking it up online but could not find if the scoliosis might be causing the arthritis or what age group arthritis usually occurs in with people who have scoliosis. Does anyone know? I am only 22 and the idea of having any kind of arthritis is pretty scary. > > >
Guest guest
I don't know if arthritis of the spine (aka spondylosis) is found in those with scoliosis more so than others; however, when I had my spinal fusion surgeries in 1996 at the age of 36, I was told by my surgeon that I had spondylosis of someone in their 70's!
