Have your tried the South Beach Diet. It worked really well for my

husband. He did not stay on it because he thought he would get a

sharper drop in his cholesterol. It dropped but not enough in only

three weeks. The doctor still wanted him on Lipitor. I wish he had

stayed on it and given it more of a chance.

I am discouraged to hear that your work out regimen has not done more

for you. Weight Watchers also has a good reputation.

DH has a very hairy back and shoulders. He has to shave his neck

everyday. He is getting bald on top though.

When my husband was successful with the weigh loss he was following a

portion control method od eating he learned from a nutritionist. Of

course he was much younger then. It is just that you read so many

reports on how bad abdominal fat is for you.

My stories a long and a bit complicated one, but in a nutshell, I lost 40

pounds after my thyroid cancer was diagnosed and the gland was removed and I

finally got ENOUGH thyroid meds to give me some energy to move around again.

I was underdosed on synthetic thyroid hormones for a long time. I think

undiagnosed hypothyroidism is about the worst -ism out there. Robs you of

everything, strength, interest, energy, weight, blah blah.

I did it low carbing and eating salads at that point. Then I was finally

able to get back to the gym a year ago and make some progress in losing

inches and weight. Currently I have some high cortisol levels, which I

think are keeping me fat and unable to add muscle.

My hypogonadism didn't get discovered until after the long period of

underdosed thyroid, and I think that's what caused it.

Check out Dr Mirkin's website and the DASH diet (Dietary Approach to Stop

Hypertension). Lots of protein and leafy greens, low REFINED carbohydrate

thing. A good way to eat regardless of your condition.
