Guest guest
Hi Bill, I can give you a little information about this. As a 19 year survivor of Testicular Cancer, I know a little. Normally you lose only one teste, a few maybe unlucky enough to get it twice and lose both testes. The cancer does not spread from one teste to the other, it will be two separate cases of Testicular Cancer. Testicular is one of the most Curable Cancers, the cure rate is in the high 90% area. Testes are like Kidneys, you can lose one and still be " Normal " . " Normal " , is a statement made by doctors who don't know anything about your problem. There are two main types of Testicular Cancer, one is treated with Chemo and the other with Radiation. The problem is that the cure, Chemo/Radiation can damage the Leydig Cells of the Teste and the Leydig Cell produce the Testosterone. But like all good stories sometimes we are different and we need help with Testosterone. Sadly the doctors who treat us for cancer know nothing about hormones, but tell us all is ok because we a still in range. In my case, I still have both Testes and was in range by .8 for several years before changing doctors. If you would like to know about Testicular Cancer visit this site http://tcrc.acor.org/ This is the best site on the web and it's run by a survivor, so he'd been there and done it also. I hope I have helped in some small way. Later, Magenta > > It just occurred to me Lance Armstrong is a man who beat testicular > cancer. Guest guest
Thanks for your comments The Lance Armstrong link you provided contains information they remeved one testicle. Tel ut do you take T shots to raise your T levels . I brought up ths subject because Lance urune sakple showed a 4 times above normal for T and there is an isue as to whether or not he was doping . He says he naturally produces 4 times a normal man So here we have a man with one testice that produces 4 times more T than the average felow I suppose i am wondering how many men who lost one testicle nned T shots to be normal or does the remening testice produce a normal level and or 4 time s more in lamce Armstrongs case if we are to beleve his statements If and when they get blood from him?? The test results will be interesting magenta_1996 <no_reply > wrote: Hi Bill, I can give you a little information about this. As a 19 year survivor of Testicular Cancer, I know a little. Guest guest
If Lance Armstrong still produces more T than the average man minus a testicle and following chemo... then he's freak of nature! One of the markers for testicular cancer is a marked increase in testosterone. Tumors will often times spike production of T. I've had one removed and had radiation for testicular cancer. I'm having some serious doubts about a cyclist post-cancer having 4 times the normal level. Suppose stranger things have happened. , Bill Taber <trainman199@...> wrote: > > Thanks for your comments The Lance Armstrong link you provided contains information they remeved one testicle. > Tel ut do you take T shots to raise your T levels . > I brought up ths subject because Lance urune sakple showed a 4 times above normal for T and there is an isue as to whether or not he was doping . Guest guest
Bill, I did not have Cancer in either of my Testes and it's called EGC, so I still have both and I use Primoteston Depot 250 fortnightly. It took ten year of being told I was ok by my treating doctor, before I was seen by another doctor who took the time to check everything and put me on TRT. My treating doctors only know about chemo and treating cancer, so why they didn't send me to some one else has got me stufffed to this day. Two of the chemo drugs Lance was on, can damage the Leydig cells of the Testes. I am not going to say Lance did or did not cheat here as I have already left one group before of the crap my view caused. So read for you selves and decide for yourselves, how many men do you know of they have 4 times normal levels? Maybe it normal for the boys over on the Steriod list, but I don't feel a " Normal " person does. Thanks. > > > > It just occurred to me Lance Armstrong is a man who beat > testicular > > cancer. Guest guest
, I'm sorry, but Testosterone is not a marker for Testicular Cancer. Here's a quote from the TCRC site re-guarding Tumour Markers, " Tumor Marker - A substance detectable in the blood or urine that suggests the presence of cancer. 70-80% of patients with testicular cancer have raised marker levels. Treatment of the cancer results in a fall of the markers. Examples are alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), placental alkaline phosphatase (PLAP), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). " Some men have been known to have low testosterone when DX'd. As a survivor of TC, you know as well as I do, chemo and radiation stuffs the body, I also ended up with Peripheral and Motor Neuropathy. Guest guest
Actually it was Floyd Landis, not Lance Armstrong, for the later is now retired from cycling. And Lance actually produces slightley less testosterone than he used to as he says in an interview I read online and probably is easy to find if you care to do a search. > > > > > > It just occurred to me Lance Armstrong is a man who beat > > testicular > > > cancer. Guest guest
Yes you are correct.! I had just realized i confused the two fellows and was just now going to post my mistake. . I am sory for the confusion i may have caused . I do believe in past Armstrong was acused of doping but the subject at hand is whether or not Landis was cheating . As far as we know landis has both testicles. We await word on Landis's next test for T Bill <that_fiend@...> wrote: Actually it was Floyd Landis, not Lance Armstrong, for the later is now retired from cycling. Guest guest
I also have doubt about the lab that tested Landis's testosterone level for the simple reason that the French cannot stand the fact that an American is kicking their ass AGAIN!! > > > > > > > > It just occurred to me Lance Armstrong is a man who beat > > > testicular > > > > cancer. You need to remember there's a feedback system through FH and LH that determine when the testes stop producing. It's quite possible that one testicle could do " double duty " . ________________ I am human; nothing in humanity is alien to me. Guest guest
Leydig cell tumors will often show elevated T levels according to my Oncologist. The levels I ususally have checked are AFP, LDH and a simple chest x-ray yearly since year 6 post-treatment. Guest guest
you could be right, the French only like the French winning their great race. How ever, if they base they statement only this ratio and not a complete blood test, then there is a good possibility for it to be faulty. The reason they do this test is the claim it's non-invasive, but I feel it's more for the cost. Here they are saving dollars and running a chance of wrecking some ones career.
