Guest guest
I see this happen but most times with gels. When you start to feel like your going down tell your Dr. right away and get a test and do more T. Shots are said to have a half life of 8 to 10 days so doing them every other week will have you feeling good after the shot and little by little you can't wait for the next one. With Gels it is constant but you have to start low and work your way up. To many times Dr.'s put men on Gels and tell them to come back in 2 to 3 months for a blood test. When the insert that comes with the gel says to test in 2 week when first starting on it. For anyone on TRT be it shots or what ever you need to be tested every 4 to 6 weeks until your levels get up and you are stable. If any new guys Dr. is doing this you don't have this fall back. But mainly the first FOUR on the list of side effects for Celexa and trying Viagra and Cialis...I simply had had it with not being able to feel anything when I DID manage to have sex (I usually call it love making but in those cases it sure wasn't as all it was is " see if Wayne can get an erection of ANY kind and if so, get it in as fast as you can and hope Wayne lasts for more than 2 minutes before losing it " type of sex) so I had my doc test my " T " . It came up low at 84. I will get a copy of the lab results and tell you exactly if that was free or total. Either way.....my doc said he'd never seen " T " that low before. For a month now I have taken TRT through IM injections. 100mg every two weeks. I'm heading for my thrid injection next Friday. If you saw my answer to Sam's " puffiness " then you know that I'm feeling great and am a sexual dynamo right now. Honestly! After such a short time, is this common to feel more " masculine " and/or " more like a man " and be able to be " on call " for love making at any time because I pretty much WANT TO all the time and yesterday afternoon prooved it! Will this 3 week+ burst of energy, mood lifting and libido skyrocketing stop suddenly like I am reading it does shortly after starting??? The TRT is even helping with my Chronic Pain! Guest guest
Aloha Phil! Thanks a ton! Of all people to respond first, I'm happy YOU did due to your knowledge and lenth of time you've been doing TRT. I AM going to request my shots be given every week because the next " test " he wants me to have isn't until JULY!!!! And that one is a two hour blood test where I first have blood drawn, then they give me something " sickeningly sweet " (my Dr.'s words) to drink and come back in an hour and draw blood and then go away and come back in another hour for a 3rd draw! Ick! Diabetes DOESN'T run in my family AT ALL and he knows that but whatever this test is, he had to write a " special " square on the usual blood draw form for it because it wasn't one of the standard ones that are preprinted on it. What could THAT be for? Anyone else who wants to jump in sure can or Phil? What could this test be? Thanks to any and all! Guest guest
That test is a glucose tolerance test. It is used to evaluate if you are hypoglycemic or diabetic. The odd thing is, if you are hypoglycemic, that often indicates adrenal fatigue and most doctors will not treat adrenal fatigue. > > Aloha my Friends and fellow Members! > > > > As most of you know by now, I'm 50 years old (51 in July), been in > > chronic pain for over 9 years and due to that have been on at > least > > 8 different meds or more. > > > > I'm NOT one to give up easily when it comes to sexual health as I > > imagine most people feel the same. Guest guest
Sounds to me like it is a glucose tolerance test. They take a sample before and then give you a drink, psuedo -Coca-Cola, and take draws for the new few hours, in hour intervals. He is checking for glucose production, spikes and yes, diabetes or hypoglycemia. I would think every 2 weeks (at the end of a shot cycle and before your next one) you should be having a blood test, at least to read T, free T, e2. This would give your doctor a nice baseline for you. You should also have one a few days after to see the nice higher levels. Perhaps HI healthcare doesn't cover too many tests? Blessings from Massachusetts. Guest guest
Sounds like the " Glucose Tolerance Test " , standard for detecting diabetes. Thats how they caught mine. My test came back at 268 (anything over 120 or 140, I forget which, is bad news.) I was proclaimed a Type II diabetic, and I'm also the only one in the family with it. Usually one of the signs for diabetes is excessive thirst. I was taking Metformin (aka Glucophage) for it for a couple of years. One surprising and greatly appreciated effect when I started my depo-t shots was that it really lowered my blood sugar (from the 180's to around 100-110, sometimes in the 90s.). I actually used that fact as an indicator if my T was running low by the reading on my glucose meter. Right now, I'm off the diabetes meds completely (with the Drs blessing) and rely strictly on diet and depo-t. Guest guest
Hey Wayne - Aloha and I have been to Kauai - it is one of the most beautiful places on earth - you are a lucky man. Not to be the bearer of bad news but if you are like me, you want to know what possibly is coming. First let me say that we all are different and this is just how it happened to me. When I first started injection, I like you was on top of the world. Horny all the time and able to have sex any time. This seems to be a function of the increased T in your body. Then, as your testicles shut down completely and you are living off the injections only, your T levels start to drop again. You are taking a very low dose but keep in mind, it may be enough for you. Most are taking 100 mg every 7 days. When you have low T, it does a lot of damage to your body including bone loss and cardiac disease. It honestly was a year for me to get stable and feel good. I settled out with the following: Depo T 60-80 mg every 7 days Arimides 0.25 mg every 14 days Cialis 5 mg 2 times a week This is just what works for me. If your condition does start to come back, you will have to do blood test and make minor corrections until you get it right so don't get in a hurry - there is light at the end of the tunnel. Also, stay in touch with the forum - it is a God Send!!!! for guys like us. Good Luck - Arkansas Wayne Birdie <wayne_in_hawaii27@...> wrote: Aloha my Friends and fellow Members! Guest guest
Aloha williamb11! thanks! That's exactly the snswer(s) I was looking for and the advice I was looking for also! Perfect! Actually william, I have some of THE BEST medical coverage in Hawaii and I could get unlimited tests allyears long if I wanted. I would just have to pay 10% if even that. Heck, for a doctor visit, it's $6. For Brand drugs it's $7 and generic it's $2. Get this: Due to my chronic pain for the last 9+ years I have taken Oxycontin up to dosages of 4500mgs A DAY! You know how many 80mg tablets that is? You know how much my medical coverage would pay in a year while I only paid $84? They paid $1,140.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Currently I'm taking 2000mgs a day of Kadian (same thing, but it comes in 100mg capsules) which is 600 capsules a month and it costs the insurance company $5,093.00/mo and I pay $7. In a years time it's $61,116.00 and $84 for me. Add it all up for 9 years and you got yourself a hefty medical drug bill!! And that's not even counting the other 8 medications I take! They could cut their costs by more than 90% if they covered air fare to Honolulu so I could get the drug pump surgically implanted and cover the air fare for refills every 3 months. But NOOOOOOOOO, they don't. So, what can I say, if they want to keep paying this ungodly cost for the rest of my life, FINE! I'm used to the routine of it all. Get this though! The HI welfare medical coverage DOES PAY for air fare for patients that need to fly to Honolulu where the REAL hospitals are if they need anything done surgically than remove a hang nail. But the working stiff HAS to pay their own way to/from there.....uh, what is wrong with Hawaii's medical system here? Sorry for getting off track but that is a REAL sore issue with me. I will hope that my doc does change my injections to weekly this Friday when I go to get my bi-weekly T injection. Although at the moment I don't really feel much of the " hills and valleys " of bi- weekly, it's just I'd rather feel more like I do the FIRST week instead of the second week. And thanks for the recommendations for the tests. I'll mention those to him and push for them. He's really a rather new doc and very young (of course the older I get 21 year old women look 15 years old to me now! LOL!)but genuinely seems eager to learn more about hormones. I don't mind being his guinea pig as long as what he does doesn't harm me in any way. And you're correct williamb11, more tests are the answer to make sure he stays in line. Again, thank you. Guest guest
WOW Rich! That's sounds GREAT! I can only HOPE that all I've heard and learned from this forum about the benifits come true for me too. I bet that was shocking news to find out about the type 2 when it doesn't run in your family history, wasn't it? If mine comes back and says that, I'll know EXACTLY how you feel. If I had a choice, I'd pass on really knowing what that felt like...thank you very much! LOL! But thanks for the info because of the fact that diabetes doesn't run in my side of the family. It runs RAMPANT on my wifes side with her mother dying from it and one of her brothers and two sisters have it and one of her sisters daughters has it!!!! Must be a VERY strong genetic trait on her side, but I thank God that my wife has no sign of it whatsoever, being the youngest of the three girls (I know, I know. It doesn't matter if you're born first or last) Thanks again Rich, that's a little something to keep the aprehension up while I wait for the results! LOL! Just kidding my friend. Guest guest
Wayne- Do not, -repeat- DO NOT worry about no sticking test until you've actually seen the results! Even then I'd put tongue firmly in cheek. There's a lot of folks who believe the Glucose Tolerance Test is a load of BS anyway (just to further muddy up the water, lol) saying what the hell do you expect, loading up the system with enough glucose to choke a horse and then saying " ah-HA, diabetes! " if it comes back even a little high. I hope your doc includes the blood tests Hba1c and mean plasma glucose, that might tell a little more. I've got an old high school buddy who's a diabetic (type 1, insulin) who's GTT came back at 500 (now that would be hard to argue with), but once again, he first noticed that he was always thirstier than hell, couldn't drink enough water. Then again, if it runs in your wifes side of the family you've probably gather some info there. Plus, I think I recall reading somewhere that diabetes isn't always genetic. In my case. I used to be a chemist and thinking back to all the carcinogens and solvents I'd come in contact with, I'm lucky to get away with as little damage as I did. (In between research, I used to make chemicals for stock to sell to universities and pharmaceutical companies and one of these little gems was called Nitrosomethylurea, or NMU for short. Sometime if you've got nothing better to do, look that one up and what it was used for, lol. After a while, I told the boss, look I'm not making that shit anymore, I'm pushing my luck as it is. He just gave it to someone else to make. Ah, the " good ol days " , glad I'm retired) Rich > > > > Aloha my Friends and fellow Members! > > > > > > > > As most of you know by now, I'm 50 years old (51 in July), > been > > in > > > > chronic pain for over 9 years and due to that have been on at > > > least > > > > 8 different meds or more. > > > > > > > > I'm NOT one to give up easily when it comes to sexual health > as I > > > > imagine most people feel the same. NOT! I wish I could, but I can't. (Yeah Kimo > and Jack...get those hopes back down. LOL!) > > Seriously. My appreciation would be shown. > > Aloha and I hope to hear from many of you, > Wayne > Well, I started TRT in October 2005. The first things I noticed was the pain in my bones and joints went away. Next was my appetite, the second week after my 250 mg injection, I was eating three large meals a day. Before, I could skip breakfast, miss lunch and pick at dinner. By week three, I started to experience the sexual side effects. Lots of fun for me, because I went through my teen years looking like a 10 year old with the libido of a 100 year old man. After 2 months on, I was much stronger physically and had more endurance. I lost fat and put on muscle. All of this without seeing the inside of a gym. The positive effects have continued to this day. I am fortunate in that I do not need to worry about the testosterone converting to estrogen in excessive amounts. I am taking it up a notch by treating my low adrenal function. For the longest time, since childhood, I have lived with the symptoms of adrenal insuficiency. Lucky you live Hawaii is not true if you are heat intolerant. BTW, my mother's side of the family is on the North Shore of Kauai. It has been almost 20 years since I have gone back. The best parts of my childhood were spent on my grandfather's farm. But plenty has changed since he passed away. Not all of it for the better. I am glad that TRT is benefiting you. Don't remember where I read it, but a known effect of opiates is to suppress testosterone levels. This just turns into a vicious cycle, because low testosterone is bad for your joints, bones and muscles. I know I would walk like an old man because my feet and back would be painful. So you are not dreaming if the TRT is helping with your pain. I am too young to feel old like that, I am only 33 years old. The shame is, to doctors I am not hypogonadal. I am depressed/hypochondriac and some Viagra and Prozac will fix what is wrong with me. If you believe that BS, I have some land on Kaho`olawe to sell you. Guest guest
Aloha Rich! OMGOSH! My man. How could you MAKE that hideous drug for as long as you did? Are you OK? I honestly hope YOU didn't get prostate problems. For those who didn't want to look far, here's a link to what Rich was making: http://www.vetpathology.org/cgi/content/abstract/33/5/557 just copy and paste into your address box...THOUSANDS of Rats were sacrified (or still are) for this research! I'm VERY happy you no longer have to make such a drug/compound. I'm happy also you had the sense to realize the danger to yourself and simply tell your boss that you refuse to make it anymore. YUCK! Thanks for your input though Rich. I have half a mind to " pretend " to drink it and spit it out and proceed with the rest of the test. Or do you think they'd " catch it " ? Heck, if they want to see my sugar levels go up, why not just put me on a glucose drip for an hour! LOL! Thanks again and I hope you're OK now, Wayne > > > > > Aloha my Friends and fellow Members! > > > > > > > > > > As most of you know by now, I'm 50 years old (51 in July), > > been > > > in > > > > > chronic pain for over 9 years and due to that have been on at > > > > least > > > > > 8 different meds or more. > > > > > > > > > > I'm NOT one to give up easily when it comes to sexual health > > as I > > > > > imagine most people feel the same. Guest guest
Wayne- Didn't mean to come across that dramatic, lol. The point I was trying to make was that there are other things to consider, like environment (especially a chemical one) for the " single family member " diabetic. See: http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/308/6926/482 for example. (Yeah, NMU was a nasty one all right, although I had worked with plenty of carcinogens before. They did mention eventually what it was used for, I think they wanted to impress on me the fact that I needed to be careful.) Also wanted to mention re your original post that I too got a lot of relief from aching joints. I've got a bad rotator cup in my right shoulder that limits my upward reach and also arthritis (or a bone spur?) in my right big toe that used to make me limp. That reminds me of a mild rant against some Drs.: they say you've got to exercise, Rich. You're diabetic and you've got to burn off that sugar. (No test for testosterone, of course.) So I get this treadmill and I'm trying to walk on it (which becomes limping on it) and anyone who really concientously tried to exercise, with his T levels bottomed out knows what I mean. You deserve a medal or something. I'm huffing and puffing and sweating like a pig and I think I'm going to have a heart attack any minute and my toe is really starting to throb. I think back on the Doc saying, well, you're just out of shape and I'd like to strangle him. After depo-T, I'm -running- on the dam thing and using the incline because a level run is boring. I'm not saying the pains in the shoulder and toe are completely gone, but they are greatly diminished so you can ignore them. You know the funny part is - I had no idea where this relief was coming from, or the thing about the drop in blood sugar down to normal. I suspected the depo-t only by the process of elimination. - Then- I start reading where, yes there are often some very good side effects to testosterone replacement therapy, and I think, hey I was right, like I was first one to discover this, lol. Its not a miracle drug, its a replacement drug, and the temptation is to increase the dose. That, of course gets me in trouble blowing my estradiol and hemoglobin readings sky high and making me feel worse. There really only one complaint I have regarding depo-t (and yes, its really a complaint, a not-uncommon one I think): Quite often, I have a hell of a time getting to sleep at night. Really amazing since the days of the afternoon naps are a thing of the past. Its like I'm wired, like caffiene, I have to be really tired to sleep. I hope I'm not becoming an Ambien addict.
