Hello everyone and thank you for the welcome.My name is [jerm3_us] I

am 30 year's old will be 31 the 24th of this month. I have had fusion surgery

at L5\S1 13 months ago and IM in more pain now then before surgery. I go back

to the surgeon Feb. 1st to see if the loose screw is causing my severe pain. my

family is razzing me about having a screw loose LOL. I also have DDD and

suffer from severe depression. l have applied for SSI disability and have been

turned down twice so IM waiting on my attorney to get me a court date. I was a

volunteer firefighter for 13 years and have had to give it up due to back

problems. I am married and have 2 boys 3 and 8. I am from Indiana, if anyone

wants

to know anymore feel free to ask. I spend a lot online and if anyone would like

Welcome - I'm new too. My name is Lori. Hang in there I know its

tough. Just keep looking until you find someone that can help you.

Doctors years ago told me to get a little therapy and get a

disability evaluation. I didn't listen Thank god. finally found

someone that gave me my life back. I even went back to bowling. Still

took pain pills etc but it was better and I could use my arm and leg

again. Just keep fighting and it will get better.

I went to the surgeon this week and he told me my neck has fused 70%

and the spine bends correctly. Plus I can lift up to 50 pounds now.

an acquantence of mine that I bowl with had surgery a few years ago for his neck. He found out that a screw was loose too. His surgeon said he could take it out or leave it but leaving it would not do any harm. It is probably not the cause of your pain. missdanigyrl <missdanigyrl@...> wrote:

That's what gets me out of bed every day when I'd just rather lie

there. I've had 3 spinal fusions with Isola rods from L3 to S1 and am

on 5 pain meds pain patches and the ever present Tens unit which help

to keep the pain to a level I can endure ( not like, just endure) My

average level is a solid 7 with spikes to 8.5, but I refuse to give

up. I've had just about every test know to man or witch doctor :-) so

if I can give out any useless info I'll be glad to. Who knows maybe I

went through it already. I'll be checking the board and putting my 2

cents worth in.

Hi Bob welcome to the group. Sounds like you have a zoo like mine,

only mine is a farm more or less. But the animals outnumber the

people in a HUGE way Seems like you have been thru a ton of stuff

so I'll ask you this, have you tried the Spinal Decompression

treatment I heard about. Seems like I read about it before and put

it off for some reason now I don't know why lol. Seriously I am

waiting for the artificial disc surgery (If they will have me, not

sure yet) But I had my neck fused so I am thinking thats why the

Spinal Decompression won't work for me. Not sure so if you know

anything I'd be happy to hear it. Btw the only thing we don't

discuss here is pain meds, just the major types so you know in

advance.Why did your dr choose a Tens unit over a dorsal spinal

stimulator? or will that not work for you?? Just curious if there

was a reason, sounds like it would have helped you tons. Again

Not sure about the spinal decompression... Is that where they hang

you upside down like Count Dracula ??? Did that b4, never helped a

bit. Was in traction for a week once, that didn't help either. With

the 3 level fusion, my surgeon doesn't want anyone messing with my

back any more, and I'm not in any hurry to try anything that might

hurt more! They gave me a TENS unit because I'm on Workman's Comp (

had to take them to court 3 times now for them to pay out) and it's a

fight to get anything for pain relief. Believe it or not, I bought my

first 2 tens units on ebay ( I'm not endorsing that, even tho' they

helped) and it was a fight to get a new one from WC even with the

Neurologists' statement saying it was necessary. I just go with the

flow,and try to keep my spirits high even when I feel rotten. I've

found out over the years that a positive attitude is manditory when

you're fighting pain evry day/ all day long! So I find something

funny even in bad things, it makes it easier. Take it one day at a

time, can't lose 'em all

Thanks for responding.

I did a Pred taper a long time ago...and relapsed...so they determined I would always be on it at some level. Now it appears I have considerable side effefcts from the Imuran...and my bone density results have been very good...so the doc suggested I may want to try this experiment, with followup blood work to determine whether my levels stay where they should. He and his p.a. gave me the info on this website so I could do some investigation/discussion re: the issues.

Thank you Larry. I'm Debi, 56, in Florida. I've struggled with back pain for nearly 40 years now. I fell down some steps in college and haven't been the same since. Recently though, i turned over in bed and felt something change in my back. I've been to a spine pain specialist and after MRI of lower back and neck he says i need three surgeries. Fusion in neck, laminectomy and fusion in lower back. I have a great deal more pain in my middle back but we will have an MRI of that another time.

I'm awaiting my Social Security hearing scheduled for December 5th. This will be my third hearing as i have been " working " at getting disability for almost 11 years now.

My husband has been on disability for 16 years now for back problems. He has Scheuermann's Disease. Anyone else here with that affliction??

I also have Fibromyalgia, Myofascial Pain and Lupus. Thank you for letting me join this list. It feels good to have a place to turn for info and support.

-Hi Debi welcome the group I had the first two things done you need

to have just not the fusion of my back. The neck worked out fine but

my back didn't. Wishing you luck with your disability I know its

hard to get. Sorry to hear about your husband and you other problems

sounds like you have alot on your plate to deal with. Hope all goes

well with your surgeries any idea of when they are going to do them??

I had my neck fusion and laminectomy done within 3 days was in the

hospital 5 and home on the 5th. Nurses thought I was NUTS to have

them done so close but I wanted it over with asap. Best wishes

Thank you Sharon. It won't be until next year since we don't have any insurance and I have to wait til i can get Social Security Disability and Medicare before i can have the surgeries. This upcoming hearing will be my third one over the nearly 11 years i've been awaiting SSDI. I keep praying for a miracle that will keep me from having to have the surgeries. I'm scared to death of being worse off after surgery.

zHi Debi I wouldn't be scared of having surgery. I think at some

point we all get to the amount of pain we can take and when nothing

helps its our last option. But two of my three surgeries were a

success so thats not a total loss. I wish the other one had been but

I know now it wouldn't have helped the pain I have now its in a

totally different area. I hope your hearing goes well. Do you have a

lawyer to help you with it?? IF not I'd get one my sister did and

finally won her case but by the time it all came thru it didn't help

I have been on several forms of T during my TRT program, and I have

been through quite a few doctors/endocrinologists. If your Doctor

will not check your E levels and monitor them, get a new doctor now!!!

Managing and monitoring E when you are put on T is vital. If your E

levels start to rise from adding T to your system, the effects of

increasing your T levels are often negated. High E levels will kill

your sex drive, make you impotent, and even make you mooody.

Free T, Total T, E (must have the sensitive one), and computing your

T/E ration is vital. Also, your doctor must test your prolactin

levels. If he or she is not willing to do this, get a new doctor.

If medications or legit medical problems are causing your prolactin to

raise, it will induce Hypogonadisim, and it will give you gynocomastia

and make you impotent.

Finding good doctors who are committed to getting your TRT program

right for you is often a challenge. Along the way, I have met some

rude, uncaring, and unprofessional doctors who were offended that I

even challenged thier positions or questioned them even when I had the

ACCE Hypogonadism Treatment guidelines with me.

From my experince, you have to have a Total T level of at least 800 to

see the benefits to your sex drive, errections, and body composition.

I prefer to be about 1000. I am 41 and weigh about 190.

I recently tried the Testosterone Pellets, and for me they are the

best TRT method that i have tried. BTW i have tried androderm,

androgel, testim, T-cream, and HCG. After doing some experimentation,

to do it right, doctors should place men with Hypo on HCG as well as

HMG as well. The later is composed of FSH and LH and it really wakes

up your testicles. Also, the FSH and LH combination is often a part

fertilty treatments for both men and women.

The Pellets help with a steady release of T into your body, and they

are low maintence once you get the right number of pellets implanted

in your body.

If you are on HCG and some T at the same time, you must watch your E

levels. Personally I feel best when my E levels are at the Lowest end

of the range.

In the end you have to find a Doctor or Endo who is willing to or has

read the literature listed on this site. Also, they have to listen to

you and help you listen to your own body more than pay attention to

lab tests. The Lab ranges are just that. The range of where men

typically mesure in at. Where you need to be on that range is an

individual thing, and getting things in tune take some time and both

you and your physican learning how to treat Hypo together.

In Europe they are using a new long life T injection that lasts for

three months or so if I remember correctly. As usual the FDA is far

behind on getting this drug to those of us who it could benefit, and

often if the maker is not a part of the big US based drug companies,

the FDA does not work very hard to get the outsider drug company's

products in the hands of American doctors and patients.

Lastly-dont let any doctor tell you that rehabbing your testicles with

HCG, rLH, or HMG is not important. They would not put up with

something that made thier breasts disappear or that made their

testicles shrink like rasins, and neither should you.
