I am a smoker so I smoked my last cig about an hour ago (I've quit before I'll do it again!) and I also understand that some folks do what is called theraputic phlebotomy (give blood regularly) in order to cope with the poly. I've also read that taking a blood thinner such as naproxet is an additional approach. My girlfriend is a MAJOR fan of homeopathic medecin, thus a trip to the natural food and supplement store yesterday had me pick up several things including DimSum, Gaba, Milk Thistle, Beta- Sitosterol, " Liver Care " (a collection of herbs??) and Omega 3 fatty acids. She has banned me from buying beef unless it is hormone and antibiotic free, and then only once a month, egg beaters, fat free half and half, and tons of chicken and turkey... Add a return to the gym since summer os over (3 days cardio only 3 days resistance training), and I'm hoping to turn most of this around in 3 months or so. From the above, does anyone see anything else I should be paying attention to?? Is there anything else I should be doing?? I'm already making some fairly major lifestyle alterations May as well get them all in at once. Thanks in advance folks Randy
Guest guest
It doesn't look too bad there. Just a couple of things. When was the blood draw in relation to your shot? Your E2 is starting to get up there a little. You might consider talking to your Dr. about that and taking some DIM or an AI. Lean beef doesn't have that much of an effect on your lipids. Carbs will effect your lipids(and organs) much more. That doesn't mean you can eat greasy cheeseburgers all the time and be okay. They are some very lean cuts of beef that are very good. There are also some very lean pork cuts too. You probably are better off with fish, chicken, and turkey but lean beef and pork a few times a week aren't going to hurt. Just my 2 cents. Guest guest
The grain thing is a surprise to me. I'm not on a low fat diet, but I avoid most fats by nature although this summer was a fat induced nightmare of constant grilling. Part of the plan if much more fish and omega 3 plus possibly cold pressed flax seed oil. Aside from the fryer everything here is olive oil right down to the margarine. And as for red meat. I'll still have it once or twice a month but not 4 times a week like now. I do appreciate the suggestions. Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Re: Labs are back Hi Randy, Your testosterone is looking good to me. But your lipids are another matter. Your good protective HDL is extremely low, I would imagine your most protective marker, your HDL2 subfraction would be dangerously low. Your triglycerides and LDL are rather high, have you had your thyroid checked? If not that, are you on a low fat diet or eat a lot of grains (bread, cookies, crackers, bagels, pretezels, Raisin Bran, etc? That can really ruin your HDL, you should be including high dose fish oil, with olive oil on your salad, eat lots of vegetables and protein, etc. That will bring down your triglycerides and raise your HDL, so much so you will be stunned. You might try a little DIM to reduce your E2 just a hair. Also giving blood is usually enough to deal with the Hemoglobin issues that come with TRT. Guest guest
You might try some Carlson cod liver oil instead of the flax. It is a very good balance for the heart. Guest guest
Hi Randy, I believe we are brainwashed into thinking grains are healthy, but grains are a relatively new thing for mankind. I used to eat a big bowl of Raisin Bran with skim milk and thought I was doing my body good. My HDL was 29....fast forward a bit....I had a heart attack at the age of 46. Grains=sugar. You can eat a piece of whole grain whatever, wait an hour and take your blood sugar. It will be through the roof. In many instances grains raise your blood sugar faster than if you ate right out of the sugar bowl. Now my HDL is 71, my HDL2 is way up there too. My views are not fringe, there is real science to support my position. This cardiologist, Dr. , has all his patients get off grains and gives them big doses of fish oil (I take 6,000 DHA+EPA daily, that would be about 20 regular fish oil capsules, but I use a liquid Carlson's prep.) and uses olive oil, etc, in his treatment. He sees HUGE improvements in their CT heart scan scores, yes often actual regression of plaque. http://heartscanblog.blogspot.com/search/label/Wheat Feel well, Neil > > > > After 6 months of treatment my labs are back and the results are as > > follows: > > > > Total T: 719.0 (240-950) Up from 221 > > Free T: 31.6 (9-30) up from 2.1 > > PSA: 0.7 ( 0-4.0) > > Estradiol 38.0 (20-75) > > > > WBC 6.6 (4.5-9.5) > > RBC 5.6 (4.6-6.2) > > HGB 17.5 (13.5-18.0) Up from 15.3 > > HCT 50.5 (40-54) up from 45.7 > > MCV 90.0 (80-94) > > MCH 31.0 (27-31) > > MCHC 35.0 (33-37) > > RDW 12.8 (13.1-15.3) > > MPV 7.7 (8.5-9.9) > > PLT 250.0 (150-400) > > NA 140.0 (135-145) > > K 4.2 (3.5-4.1) > > CL 102.0 (95-108) > > CO2 27.3 (22-33) > > GLU 95.0 (70-139) > > BUN 13.0 (8-28) > > Chol Tot 257.0 (0-200) up from 229 > > Trig 179.0 (50-165) > > HDL 30.0 (29-165) up from 25 > > LDL 191.0 (70-205) up from 178 > > TP 7.6 (6.0-8.0) > > CA 10.1 (8.5-10.5) > > ALK 84.0 (30-115) > > SGPT 54.0 (6-40) Stable but high > > SGOT 37.0 (7-40) > > TBIL 1.4 (0-1.4) > > Cre .8 (.8-1.2) > > Bun/Cre 16.0 (10-20) > > Albumin 4.6 (3.0-5.0) > > Alb/Glob 1.5 (1.1-1.8) > > > > Doctor is diagnosing slight liver issues and possible polycythemia > > because of the increase in HGB and HCT. Guest guest
Hey Randy, Â First - how do you feel - don't go just by numbers - libido, erections....... Â Overall things look pretty good - you should quit smoking - you know that but the issue with donating blood is a win-win - based on your numbers you are borderline high and should donate every 2 months (whole blood) to keep your blood thin. If you can tolerate aspirin - take a low dose daily and if you have high E2 issues, consider arimidex. Guest guest
Neil, So sounds like atkin had some truth to it! I'm now stuck with the issue of what to eat. Sounds like I should be living off of muscle milk shakes and bananas and fish. Not sure what's left any more except pure protein. Are there any sites that are good with the dietary advice based on this?? Guest guest
Dr. Ron Rosedale has a book to sell but there is some pretty good information here. Long read. http://www.biblelife.org/rosedale.htm Re: Labs are back Hi Randy, I believe we are brainwashed into thinking grains are healthy, but grains are a relatively new thing for mankind.
