Re: IU or U or CC or mg or ml

An IU is dependent upon the substance. There is no universal conversion. For

your HCG, it should tell you to mix an amount of water (probably 10 mls) with

the powder. This is equal to 10000 iu or 1000 iu per cc. Therefore, 250 iu would

be 1/4th of a cc or 0.25. This is only true if the statement I made at the

begining is true.

Since all my syringes are in either ml or cc what is the equal of 250iu

of HCG?

I can't find any medical statements of the conversion.

If I had a iu syringe I could shoot 250iu of water in a container &

then draw it up with a cc syringe to get the reading in cc or ml.

Anyone?

or " 25 units " on an insulin syringe

Thanks for the replies.

Dan, back when I had a full brain I could have thought that out. But I

now only have about half a brain.

Brad I tried insulin syringe units to a cc syringe & it came out

different, not a straight conversion.

A U-100 insulin syringe holds 1 cc or 1 ml. So 25 units on that

syringe is 1/4 cc or 1/4 ml as Dan discussed above. So if you've used

10ml of water to reconstitute 10,000iu of hcg, then 25 on the insulin

syringe is a 250iu dose of hcg.

Phil-

I think you're mixing " iu's " with volume. If you're using Novarel

HGC, the water vial says " 10ml " and thats what you go by. I've never

seen an " iu " syringe, I don't think they exist. The powder (HCG) vial

says " 10,000 units " - that would be your " iu's " . !0,000 units divided

by 10 ml (or cc, they're the same) is 1000 iu per 1 ml, or 250iu per

0.25cc. I'm not sure how they arrive at the value of 10,000 units for

the powder, some sort of titration to a standard, I suppose. I doubt

very much its by weight, the powder only weighs about 130mg which is

pretty small. We use insulin syringes only because its a convenient

way to measure out 0.25 ml. (BTW, I measured out a full U-100 syringe

full of water and measured it in my smallest graduated cylinder (5ml)

and it does indeed come out to 1cc. 'Course it said " 1cc " on the

insulin bag, too. LOL Exercise in futility.)

The " standard " dosage here

seems to be 250iu 3 times a week.

I was looking at my reply and I think I directed it to Phil by

mistake. Sorry about that.

As a further note, I ordered some " Pregnyl " HGC and it came in sealed

glass vials (no rubber septum.) The water vial is only " 1cc " and the

powder vial is " 5000 " units. In this case, I have to pay closer

attention to the volume of water provided. Mixing these two would

make a much more concentrated solution than my Novarel. To

get " 250iu " I would have to measure out only 0.05cc which is going

to take a small syringe indeed. I may end up just ordering more

bacteriostatic water to dilute it out.
