Guest guest
HI Lizzie You just can't go on temperature to find if you have reached your optimal dose. You need to be free of all your symptoms, and you are still in the very early days of treatment. You may need to do some titrating before you find that. I wouldn't bother telling him today about your temperature, because it is too early. Tell him that you are still suffering from the symptoms you are - obviously not yet on enough T3 - but I believe all the thyroid hormones that you get in Armour are so much more likely to make you well than one thyroid hormone. See how you go on and I am sure he will help you to find the dose and the medication that will make you well. Good luck Luv - Sheila Hi sheilaI hope you get this before I leave for my apptmnt.I checked my basal temp this morning and it was 37.1 and yesterday36.9. This was day 20 and 21 of my cycle. do you think this means thatI could have reached my optimal dose. Not sure whether to mentionthese today as I still have some symptoms, namely joint pains, energyslumps and thigh cramps. HelpLove Lizzie> Temperature is both adrenal and thyroid. When you get on the rightthyroid hormone and dose, your temperature should rise. Yourtemperature shows you are not yet at your optimal dose, but whetherthis has to be L-thyroxine, Liothyronine or Armour, we will have towait and see.> >> > > >----------------------------------------------------------> > > No virus found in this incoming message.> Checked by AVG. > Version: 7.5.524 / Virus Database: 269.23.2/1389 - Release Date:21/04/2008 08:34> No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG. Guest guest
Hi Sheila Thanks for your reply, unfortunately I had already left. My blood results taken last week 24 hours after meds were T4 7.3 T3 4.7 Tsh 0.1 I had bloods done after meds 4 weeks ago unwittingly thought it was just for Ferritin and results were T4 10 T3 6.4 Tsh 0.12 Unfortunately these results were sent to endo. He asked if I had changed my dose and so I had to come clean and tell him that last weeks bloods were after stopping medication. He asked why I had done that and said that it did'nt make any difference. Clearly the reults show that it does make a difference, but he said it shouldn't and so he couldn't understand why my results were so different. Anyway to cut a long story short he has agreed to up my T4 from 75mcg to 100mcg and leave the T3 at 20 mcg and see him again in July. He did say not to stop my medication next time, however if I hadn't stopped my medication this time I would definitely not have been given an increase. What do you think Sheila, I cant understand why my T4 is so low 18 months ago when I was just on T4 100mg my T4 was 26 and Gp reduced it do you think I have had another antibody attack? when first diagnosed my antibodies were 56 but they havent been done since. I would welcome your thoughts Sheila and thankyou for your advice. Love Lizzie > You just can't go on temperature to find if you have reached your optimal dose. Guest guest
Hi Lizzie, Definitely don't take meds on day of blood test until after blood has been drawn. I did take my meds as I was not expecting blood test. Result a T3 of 11- yes 11 while on the same meds as last year and feeling the same- just fine- last years test after not taking meds on day of test was 3.8 But whatever you decide to do, do it consistently as you can see it can make a huge difference to the tests, especially T3- which is vital. Guest guest
Hi Lizzie, It is quite obvious that you are not on the optimum dose yet, though it looks like you are heading in the right direction. In your shoes I'd be asking for a dose increase, though whether T4 or T3 I don't know. I find that more than a little T4 causes joint pain, so I take rather a high proportion of T3, but we are all different and therefore suck it and see seems to be the only way to find the perfect balance. Write down a list of questions in advance and make sure you ask all of them. Subject: Endo visit Hi Sheila and All I am going to see endo tomorrow (a few of you know who I mean). I don't really know what to say. I think I am improving and then I have a bad day or often a good day turns into a bad one quite quickly. I am on T4 75mcg and T3 20mcg (increased via email request to secreatary 6 weeks ago from 10mcg). It took about three weeks from changing dose for me to notice any change and then I did very slowly start to feel better. I have been having horrible cramps in my thighs since October which were still there but more in the background some days and other days not there at all............ I take all thyroid meds at night and do not have any problem sleeping. I am unsure whether I should be pushing for an increase in T4 or a reduction in T4 and an increase in T3. What a long rambling message Im sorry if I sound really sorry for myself I know there are some of you out there really suffering. I think the thing is you pin all your hopes on an appointment you have been waiting months for and then come away feeling disheartened or having forgotten to say something., and then you have months to wait before trying again. If anyone can help I would welcome your advice. Love Lizzie ------------------------------------ Messages are not a substitute for professional medical advice. Guest guest
Hi Lizzie We can't win, can we. Some endocrinologists have opposed the use of products containing T3, claiming this is because of resulting brief peak blood level of T3, reaching the "thyrotoxic range" which may cause heart palpitations or adversely affect the heart and they use this argument to claim, that, by using levothyroxine alone, patients can avoid these problems. It is BECAUSE they make such claims that it is recommended NOT to take any thyhroid hormones (especially T3) for at least 24 hours before the test. I think he is probably not wanting you to think that you know more than he does, because even patients know that T3 peaks after a couple or so hours. I wouldn't worry. See how you get on with your ioncrease in T4, it should be interesting to see what hormone(s) and dosages you actually end up on. He obviously also recognises that your T4 is far too low and that is why he has increased it. Some of us do need to titrate a few times before we finally find our perfect spot. luv - SheilaHi SheilaThanks for your reply, unfortunately I had already left.My blood results taken last week 24 hours after meds were T4 7.3 T3 4.7 Tsh 0.1I had bloods done after meds 4 weeks ago unwittingly thought it wasjust for Ferritin and results wereT4 10 T3 6.4 Tsh 0.12Unfortunately these results were sent to endo. Guest guest
> Hi Lizzie Many of us 'never ever' take our meds before a blood test for the very reason that happened to you. The doc, who can only go by technical figures, (and not how we are feeling), reduce them leaving us with insufficient hormone in our system and we have to live with the suffering another 4 months. Meds have a 'spike' within 4 hours of taking them and we really dont want that spike to be caught up in the blood test. I would always get blood tested first thing in the morning and take my meds when I got out of the office - as long as you do it the same way each time you can follow your bloods and their continuity. Politely ask for a copy of your bloods and write the dose of meds you are taking and the top 3-5 symptoms for comparision with the next test. > jennyfreeman PS: If he asked you next time just reply that you 'took his advise on board' -or 'yes, I listened to your advice about that'. you know the 'half answer' !!!! its YOUR health and you know more about living in your skin than anyone else > We can't win, can we.
