Guest guest
Hey Congrats on getting the TRT - I will say that the arimidex dosage seems a little high for the amount of T you will get from a patch. Did your Doc test for E2 and was it high? Most start out at 0.5 mg 2 to 3 times a week so you don't bottom out on E2 which will make you feel like crap. Also watch for skin irritation from the patch. I looked like I had a big red target where ever I stuck one. I did not absorb well so I can't say how long it will take to feel the results. Guest guest
My E2 was high in some tests that i saw a while back. On a ref scale of 25-50 i think it was something like 72. So mine is high to begin with. I have seen any recent results (those numbers are about 4 months old). I've used the nicotine patch in the past and that worked well without any irritation or bulls-eye's as you have experienced. Hopefully that will be the same with T. I'll let you all know in a day or two. Thanks! > > Hey Guys, > > I won't bore you with the whole back story, but I finally have my > liver functions and cholesterol under control so my doc put me onto > TRT. Guest guest
Ok you have a Dr. that is not up on TRT but at least he is trying. The patch will leave a red rash on your skin when you take it off and the glue will not come off with using alcohol to get it off more skin problems. If you had your E2 tested 4 months ago were you on TRT at the time if so what. When I first got my E2 tested I was on Androgel the highest dose 10 grams and getting a 200 mg. shot every 2 weeks. So you see I was high and got it down doing Arimidex .5 mgs. everyday. In 4 weeks I went to low and felt worse then to high. Now that was on a lot of T meds. If you have not been on TRT in the last 4 months and have not had your E2 tested again your going to go to low fast on this dose. I can't understand why your Dr. is doing the patch there is Androgel or Testim that works much better. But like most of us you stuck with doing what your Dr. said to do. Unless you call him and tell him what we told you. Other wise do keep us posted on how your feeling. As for the patch it takes about one week and your levels will go up on top of what your testis were making then your testis will stop and your levels will drop back some and this could make you feel like it stopped working but you will come back up it takes time to get your levels up like 3 to 6 more weeks. So I hope your Dr. is going to test you in 2 weeks on this to see how your doing. To many Dr.'s don't do this and you need to read the insert that comes with the patch I think it says to retest in 2 weeks so call him and tell him. I don't think you will go to low in 2 weeks if your E2 is high like you said. Getting your E2 down should bring up your libido and give you morning wood if this happens then you will know it came down. Now it this stops then it could mean you went to low and one way to tell is to stop the arimidex to see if your libido and wood comes back. If it does than go back on the arimidex but cut the dose in half. Keep doing this until your on the right dose. Guest guest
Phil, Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep a watch out for symptons. The doc i see is the same one that Bruce Harvey goes to. He talked worlds about him. I have another appointment in a few weeks i think. I'll stick with what he prescriped for the time being and see where i'm at. Oh also, those E2 levels were without any TRT at all. This is the first real " treatment " i've been on so far. Thanks again! > > Ok you have a Dr. that is not up on TRT but at least he is trying. The pain and itching were horendous. I switched to the gel. I don't know how much hair you have, but any is too much w/the patch; I looked pretty wierd w/shaved patches on each leg. I never put a patch on the same place twice in two weeks and still be came sensitized to the darn thing. The cream they recommeded did not work. I recently sent my doc the AACE paper and Dr. Crisler's Recipe for Success. Shortly afterwards I got a phone call from his office to make an appt. I am interested in his response to the information presented in both articles. I would like to get closer to " normal " than I am now. I feel pretty good, but, at times I'm lethargic and apathetic. I have not seen any morning wood; well actually that's not true, what I have seen is more like morning balsa wood. I would like to see the iron oak I had last year. How long was it before the patch started to really bother you? I'm afraid to switch to creams/gels as my wife is about to give birth in 3-4 weeks and i'm afraid of transferring to her or the baby. Has anyone actually used the patch with good results? Everything i'm hearing from people so far is that the patch blows.
Guest guest
I did try the patch for about a month and it did indeed deliver consistant testosterone levels, but if was a real pain to clean the adhesive off various skin areas. The trade off was no worth it for me. norton

Guest guest
For me the patch just didn't get it. I never got above 400 total T and even the 10mg twice daily didn't work. Finally they put me on shots and I am doing much better. Right not I am waiting on blood test to see where to go from here. Apointment the 28th to see what the next step is. My Estradiol checked at 59 on a range from 10 - 50 He said this was too high but wanted to see the total blood test before going further. Will keep you posted after my next appt. Guest guest
Well just an update on the patches. I learned a VERY important lesson with these things. You do NOT want it anywhere near your hip where you may sleep on it. I guess it was too close to a bone (Which it does state in the insert, i just overlooked it) and now i have what appears to be a 2nd degree burn on my leg. I've had to cover it with gauze and surgical tape each day waiting for it to heal. Other then that, the patch really doesn't seem to be doing too much. Perhaps i'm jumping the gun (I've been using them for apprx 5 days now) but i don't feel any different then i did when i started using them. I think i'm gonna email my doc and tell him i'd like to move to shots. For those using the shots, how much does it hurt? I've gotten them before at the docs office above my butt and it really didn't hurt that much, but that was a skilled nurse giving the injection not me or my wife . I just am getting tired (even after just 5 days) of having to shave my leg and finding a place to put a patch that won't make it fall off. -
Guest guest
, Although I do not know all of the buzz words and abreviations as I am also relatively new to this deal, and just joined this group, I have been taking the shots since last summer. (Someone just sent me the glossary, thank you very much) I have to do it by myself as my wife will not even come in the room. Needles really creep her out. The doctor gave me very little help here. I thought I would put the needle in my thigh like a diabetic. When I saw the size of the needles at the pharmacy I about fainted. He explained that these go in your butt cheek, and have to go ALL THE WAY IN !! This was the first time in my life I was glad I have a big ass. As I understand it, you want to aim for the upper part of your butt, but below the top edge of the butt crack, not too close to the crack, kind of centered, but more near the top than right at the middle where it is largest. I have also found that if you put your weight on the left foot, and bend your right knee, it allows you to keep your butt muscle from tensing up on the side you are injecting. This is for the right cheek, assuming you are right handed. It is difficult to do in a mirror left handed, as everything is back-asswards, pun intended. If I am feeling more alert, I will try a lefty every so often, just to give righty a break. Turn the other cheek. I am told you should not bleed, but every once in a while I get a little blood when taking the needle out. Keep some TP handy and just hold it on there for a few seconds and it stops, for me anyway. Always use the alcohol wipes before and after. One thing that really helps avoid later pain is to really rub the cheek good after the injection. A nurse friend told me this one. It helps the thick viscuous fluid get spread around better. It does hurt when the needle penetrates the skin, but once that is over, that is the worst of it. Make sure to inject the stuff really slowly. If you just jam it in there, you will ache for days. Several small squeezes are best I have found. This is what I have learned so far, and I would surely be interested to know if I am making any mistakes here. I got little or no advice from anyone. The doctor tried to show me, but it is difficult to do this to yourself in a mirror. I still think it important to know how to take care of yourself, rather than depending on someone else to do this for you. It is easier to give someone else a shot in the ass than to give yourself the shot, that is for sure. But I have little choice. My wife will not help and I do not want to ask our nurse friend to come over every week and drop my drawers. She did offer. That's a real friend, as an old man's ass isn't that attractive. I never tried patches or creams. My doctor told me there was no such thing as a T pill, but I found one on the Net and sent him a copy. He prescribed them for me but they do not work nearly as well as the shots. I do not like needles at all, but the results are well worth the few seconds of discomfort. I was worried about flying with needles but have never been hassled by airport security for it. I keep the bottle of T in a separate plastic bag with the needles so it is obvious to anyone searching the luggage that you have a legitimate medical reason to carry around needles. I was told never to dispose of the needles in the garbage, and to keep them in the special plastic box provided by the pharmacy. Then you take it back when full to the pharmacy and they dispose of the needles, etc. Thta's about all I know about it and I wish I had received better help here and did not have to try to figure it our mostly by myself. Guest guest
I have been doing shots for about a year now. They are no big thing. There is a link that gives you instructions on how to do a self injection IM. I rotate my thighs and right butt cheek. Haven't been able to do the left since I am right handed. Some get their significant others to do it. They seem less painful in the butt than in the thigh. I still find it a much better delivery and it gets me in the range I like with only screwing with it once every 7 days instead of daily. Get your Doc or Nurse to show you how and they will probably want to watch you do it the first time. Good Luck - Arkansas johnrider2k2 <johnrider2k2@...> wrote: Well just an update on the patches. Guest guest
Hi it is to soon to tell only 5 days gels and patchs take a lot longer time. If you still want to try the patch give it 2 weeks then get tested checking Total and Free T and DHT with Estradiol " E2 " . If low then the dose needs to come up. I feel shots should be the last thing to try if you can try to get your Dr. to put you on Andorgel or Testim, Testim works the best and cost is less come in tubs and has a nice smell to it. I do shots and use a small needle 27g 1ml x 1/2 " lg and it takes a min. to get the T out of the vile but it comes out just slow. I do my shots every 3 days to keep my E2 down and shot in my leg. http://spotinjections.com/index3.htm I read a post that Dr. Shippen the author of " The Testosterone Syndrome " is now doing his T shots every 3 days in his belly to keep E2 down in his book he was down on shots felt the big shot converted into E2 to fast. I told my Dr. this and he said ok to every 3 days but to do them with the same needle but in my leg. Been doing this for a yr. and works good. Guest guest
Everyone is different but I would say give it months not days to work. Some of the stuff I was missing came back fairly quickly other stuff took a month or more. Don't give up! DO get retested asap. 2 weeks of TRT and you should retest. If you can't measure it, its not science! > > Well just an update on the patches. > > I learned a VERY important lesson with these things. Guest guest
I'm not giving up totally. The patches are just giving me issues with redness and swelling sometimes. I called my doc and he's going to order me some compound cream. Whats the difference between a compound cream and say testim or androgel? Any pros/cons over one or another? Guest guest
Hi , I used to have my daughter give me shots in the butt for about a year then my Dr. asked me why I didn't give myself shots in the thy, around the outside of the thy. I used to give shots in the Army so I said why not. So now I give them in the thy and it works fine. Just sit down and your leg will be relaxed already. I never put the needle in all the way only about 3/4 of the way, works for me. Alternate each time from one to the other. Try to give injections a couple of inches away from the last one. I don't think I could see if I was into a vessel in my Butt but I can withdraw on the thy and see what I am doing. Try it you may like it. Doesn't hurt as much as the Butt on me. Oh don't give it right on top of the bone! Roy Hadley <agspecialties1@...> wrote: , Although I do not know all of the buzz words and abreviations as I am also relatively new to this deal, and just joined this group, I have been taking the shots since last summer. Guest guest
It all depends on the mix when I was on it it was 2x's as strong as 10 grams of Androgle or Testim. So if your Dr. orders the cream ask him what it = to in grams of Androgel. Phil johnrider2k2 <johnrider2k2@...> wrote: I'm not giving up totally. Guest guest
I'm on a creme now (was on Androgel), but I started out with shots. Personally, , I liked the shots. I learned to give them to myself, and I got " good " at it. I liked it because you took them once and then didn't have to mess with them again for awhile. You'd be surprised at how quick and easy they are. It only sounds bad. I gave myself the shots in the top part of my legs while sitting on the toilet--just held the muscle with one hand, held needle at a bit of an angle, and popped it in. The needles are good and sharp, and at the most, there's a little bit of a sting--not much at all. If you do go that route, ALWAYS pull back on the syringe slightly to make sure you don't have a blood vessle. If no blood appears, then slowly push the plunger, pull out the needle, then rub the area a little to distribute the cyionate. Your muscle may be a little sore for a few days due to the medicine...but not enough to amount to anything. But on a side note...ask your doctor if you can try a compounded creme that your pharmacist can make up for you. It is an everyday dose that you rub in (which is not as convenient as the shots), but you also don't have the spikes--the highs and lows--that the shots cause.
