Guest guest
I have just performed my first injection last night. Hurray, sweat like a pig just doing it. Ha Ha. It was good to get over this hump. Anyway, I also noticed that there was a residual .1 ml left in the syringe, 3 ml total volume. I pushed hard but it seemed to be all out. I injected dead centre in the upper leg and it is quite a charlie-horse the next day. Using a smaller syringe (smaller diameter) would make it easier to push in and guage when complete because the travel of the plunger is longer. Question 1 : should it be this hard to push in? Question 2: Are there better locations in the upper leg to inject i.e. offcentre of the upper leg. If anyone has experience or a good link on IM injection sights it would be very helpful to me. Guest guest
Hi Dave If you are using so small a quantity of liquid (ie 0.6ml) you need say a 1ml syringe not 2ml let alone 3ml. Hope that helps? Guest guest
I do my shots every 3 days so it's not so big .25mls I use a small needle 27g 1ml x 1/2 " lg. It takes about a min. to get the T out of the vile I pull the plunger all the way down and just hold it untill I get about .5mls in the needle then I tap up the air and push the air and T back into the vile. I shoot just off the top of my leg into my thigh it takes some time to get the T out of the needle and this is good you need to push it in slow. http://spotinjections.com/index3.htm Phil louislarocque@... wrote: I have just performed my first injection last night. Guest guest
Louis - I know what you mean. I sweated for an hour the first time I injected myself. My dr. instructed me to inject in the upper quadrant of the buttocks, either right or left side. Basically in the area where your wallet would ride if you had it in a back pocket. I use a 1 in x 25g needle to inject, with a 1 ml syringe. I use a 1 1/2 in x 18g needle to withdraw the fluid from the vial. Be sure to inject an equivalent amount of air into the vial before withdrawing the fluid, or you will be creating a vacuum in the vial. Using the 25g needle it probably takes 30 - 45 sec to inject .5 ml. The fluid is very viscous and travels slowly through the needle. After the injection I rub the area vigorously for a few seconds. I very seldom have any pain at all after an injection. Jim --- louislarocque@... wrote: > I have just performed my first injection last night. > Hurray, sweat like a > pig just doing it. Ha Ha. Guest guest
Hey Louis, I think it really depends on your build. If you are on the slim side (not a lot of fat), you can can get by with a shorter needle. I use a 5/8th " 25 g that I order over the internet. I get a box of 100 which last a long time. I shoot into the butt looking into a mirror. One week on the right and the next on the left( the left is a challenge since I am right handed) but over time, it is getting more comfortable to do. I have zero pain, no bleeding and minimal post shot discomfort. I started out with a 3cc and a 21 g which now looks lika a harpoon. Shooting volumes less than a cc should be done with a 1 cc syringe for better accuracy. Guest guest
Phil, Yes, I do switch sides. As Arkansas mentioned, the left side is a little tricky at first but it gets easier after the first few times. I use a 1 cc syringe and for me that seems easier than using a bigger one. Guest guest
The mirror injection is inspirational! I was getting a nurse to inject in the butt weekly at my work and she was painless. I had to do it myself over the holidays. Thanks for your experience. I will try it myself as soon as I get the rest of the act routine and without so much sweat (I sweat at the sight of one). Guest guest
Jim, Thanks for the info on how you are doing your injections. How do you do it in the but, mirror or do you twist. I have always had little or no pain when someone does it in the but for me. I did the first one in the thigh to simplify things and get it right. As luck would have it I dropped the syringe and poked into the skin and out the other side. I withdrew the needle and injected it in the muscle. It was a dit comical but I made it. Next day is tomorrow. I may just try the buttock. Louis
Guest guest
How do you know that you hit a nerve? I tried a dry run on the side and yes it appears to be comfortable. Guest guest
For me, I lay on my side with needle in hand. I know the general area I am heading for and once I make the initial stick, I push it the rest of the way in. This may sounds painful but for me it isn't. The good part for me doing it myself is a couple times I started to hit a nerve. I knew exactly when to stop.. louislarocque@... wrote: Jim, Thanks for the info on how you are doing your injections. Guest guest
Hmmm.. you'll know it when it happens. Could be a tingle feeling or maybe just pain that shoots down your leg. Guest guest
I hit a nerve in the thigh once...DAMN, that hurts. I also push the needle in very slowly, for the same reason: so I can back it out if I think I am hitting a nerve. I've only had to back out once. My roommate needs injections occassionally, and I go slow, he complains and says just jam it in...I tell him, trust me, if we're hitting a nerve, you'll be very thankful I went slow. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Brown Sent: Saturday, December 30, 2006 6:54 AM Subject: Re: Stupid Syringe Question For me, I lay on my side with needle in hand. Guest guest
You will KNOW when you've hit a nerve...imagine a sharp bolt of electricity running down your entire leg. Guest guest
Guys I use a small needle to draw the T and shot. 27g 1ml x 1/2 " lg. been doing my T shots this way for a dam long time. I will never go back to a 25 or 23 g needle hurts like hell into the Thigh. When I draw out the T from the vile I pull the plunger all the way down and hold it until I have more then my dose then I push some of it back into the vile to get the air out and then stick the needle fast into my thigh just off the top to the side. The T comes out slow and you need it to come out slow. I never had any pain doing this when I first started I was told to use a 25g x 1 " lg. needle hurt every dam time I did my shots. I told my Dr. and he told me who told me to use such a big needle for this. I told him his Nurse. He told me she must not like me. And then told me to get some 27g x 1/2 " lg. Once you try this you will not go back. Phil Dave <groups@...> wrote: Okay, I'll check that out. I generallly by the Terumo, but in the pre-sealed package where the needle is attached already. Guest guest
Maybe yes maybe no but my levels are the same from test to test every 6 weeks. I have no pain doing my shots this way. Dr. Shippen does this but in his belly subQ subQ is you pinch up the skin and hold it and inject into the skin. I don't like this it burns for about half the day.
