When I was given adriamycin for lymphoma in 1990, the oncologist told

me the drug could only be given once because it is heart toxic. Had he

actually read me what it says on the label, or on the package insert,

(see below), I very much believe I would have refused to be given the

drug even once.

" Myocardial [i.e. heart muscle] toxicity manifested in its most severe

form by potentially fatal congestive heart failure may occur either

during therapy or months to years after termination of therapy. The

probability of developing impaired myocardial function… is estimated to

be up to 20 percent at the highest doses. This toxicity may occur at

lower cumulative doses in patients with prior mediastinal irradiation

or on concurrent cyclophosphamide therapy or with pre-existing heart

disease. "

A TWENTY PERCENT chance of developing impaired myocardial function!

It has been 17, going on 18 years, since I was given adriamycin, but I

think I'm going to stay on CoQ10, Magnesium, Alphalypoic acid, L-

Carnitine and Vitamin C for the rest of my life.

I was talking with an acquaintance months ago, who told me that people

who have received chemotherapy and radiation regularly die, years

later, because the treatment weakened/damaged their hearts, but that

their cause of death is rarely if ever attributed to the chemotherapy

or radiation. It's just listed as heart failure/myocardial infarction.

Meanwhile, I sure hope the FDA is continuing to do its very important

job of protecting all of us from the terrible dangers of herbs and

supplements! :+0

Taurine is also good if the bp is up some.

But that choice below is great!
