Guest guest
Dear all, I'll be pasting a link to one of the www.ted.com talks. The speaker is Eva Vertes. She's an amazing young person who thinks outside the box. I'd saved the following video to " My Videos " some time ago, as I thought it such a remarkable presentation by quite an impassioned young person. I thought some of you might enjoy hearing her, as well. " When thinking about cancer, Eva Vertes dares to be different. The Princeton undergrad -- only 19 when she gave this talk -- is asking new, important questions about cancer (could it be caused by the body's own repair system going awry?), using cutting-edge techniques and classic critical thinking to pursue a cure. In her inspiring talk, she shares her own story of the people in her life who inspired her to devote her life to medicine. " Have your sound turned up and enjoy. If you find that the following link does not work for you, just let me know, and I'll try to find another route for you. http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/view/id/12 Warm wishes, Jan
Guest guest
Hi, Jan. Thank you for the link. I listened to all of what Eva had to say--- about cancer perhaps being a repair process, and about how skeletal muscle does not appear to be affected by cancer, and about how perhaps in the future it might be possible to replace damaged brain cells by somehow using cancer growth. I think it is VERY important to do and to allow thinking outside the box in ANY field. Thinking outside the box, after all, is what genius is about, and it is how fantastic advances in various fields of human endeavor take place. If Eva can help science to come up with ways to heal from cancer by working WITH instead of AGAINST the body, that will be a fine thing indeed. And I appreciate that Eva says she believes the body is intelligent. Of course it is. We are indeed " fearfully and wonderfully made. " It is nothing short of amazing that an organism as fantastically complex as the human body wakes itself up day after day, year after year, decade after decade, in generally healthy condition. However, I still feel, when all is said and done, that the MOST IMPORTANT THING each of us can do to eliminate cancer or to keep from being diagnosed with it, is to learn to live a Cancer-Preventative lifestyle. Even though she is vivacious, impassioned and clever, Eva's approach, if she does come up with a viable and better approach to healing from cancer, MUST be coupled with appropriate prophylactic lifestyle changes. Also, I am convinced that degenerative dis-eases all come from similar causes, so that it is rather counter-productive to concentrate one's efforts on curing cancer, while not thinking, at the same time, about curing heart and artery dis-ease, diabetes, MS, arthritis, Alzheimer's, macular degeneration, etc, etc. The herbalist I heard speak two Saturdays ago said that if human beings would simply do the following things daily they would significantly cut down their chances of developing degenerative dis- eases of all kinds: Learn to breathe deeply and properly, from the diaphragm, not the chest Drink 1/2 ounce of pure water per pound of body weight daily Get at least 1/2 hour of sunshine daily Get at least 1/2 hour of moderate exercise daily. (Rebounding for 1/2 hour each day is EXCELLENT) Eat LOTS of vegetables and fruits, chew well and slowly, make sure to get PLENTY OF FIBER, and ELIMINATE processed foods from your diet Have one bowel movement daily for each meal one eats Get good sleep---8 hours for most people---in as dark a room as possible Avoid unnecessary, prolonged stress, if at all possible Those are extraordinarily simple things, BUT THEY ACCOMPLISH SO VERY MUCH WHEN DONE REGULARLY, and VERY FEW PEOPLE DO THEM REGULARLY. It's tempting and exciting to think and to imagine about cancer---its whys, hows and wherefores---oncology can look like a vast and very complicated field---but to involve oneself in trying to " cure " cancer without grounding oneself in the basics I have just listed is, in my opinion, to go chasing after a school of red herrings. Hippocrates stated it properly and simply thousands of years ago: " Let your food be your medicine. " There is no getting away from that without reaping the very grave consequences of degenerative dis- ease. Elliot 3:
Guest guest
Hi, Jan. I listened to the whole talk. But to me, as " outside of the box as it may be, " it looks too much like more " cure " talk, and without the basics of proper diet, proper exercise, proper breathing, elimination, sunlight, pure water, good sleep and destressing, no " cure " will be sufficient, and people will just keep on getting cancer and other degenerative dis-ease. Thinking " cure " without also thinking " prevention, " with the emphasis on " prevention, " will always be one-sided and even counter-productive, in my opinion. Best wishes, Elliot 3:

" Dear Elliot, I agree wholly with the above. And while I do not have hope that the usual researcher will couple the two directions that you've mentioned above, I am enthrawled to know that Eva (at a very young age) does view the body with awe and potential of its own. That we work with and support our bodies' potentials should be first and foremost. Warm wishes, Jan

Guest guest
Elliot, You are correct in thinking that it is more of a " quick cure " rather than the commitment it takes to truly control Cancer and other afflictions. Sadly however, it is much easier to sell something that is not too much work. It's too bad really, people are rediscovering what a lot of old cultures knew ages ago. That's how pervasive the " Drug " quick cure, magic bullet culture is. Keep on plugging Elliot. Dennis H. From: breathedeepnow Hi, Jan. I listened to the whole talk.
