To the group:

I am glad this discussion on Vit. B17 came up because I have read a copied

article, from about 5-6 years ago, from Penthouse, the author,

Rorvik. This

article is part of a seven part series on the " The Politics of Cancer " ,

and this article was entitled " Laetrile- the Drug That Never Was " .

This article opens with the statement " Laetrile, the most controversial drug

in the history of cancer research- has actually not existed until

recently. That is the staggering claim of a young Israeli cancer researcher,

Dr. Rubin, and his colleagues, at the Israeli Medical Research

Foundation. He says that there has been a misconception of more than two

decades that amygdalin and Laetrile are the same. He notes further that the

originators of Laetrile substituted an inferior one and called it Laetrile.

The drug

that has been called Laetrile, and has been at the centre of the

controversy, is actually

amygdalin.

Amygdalin may be effective as a pain killer, and a general palliative agent

in cancer,

but for the real cancer killer they should look to the true Laetrile. Ernest

T.Krebs,

sometimes referred to as " The Founder of Vit. B17 " , in the early 1950s,

claimed to have

synthesized beta-glucuronic analogue of amygdalin, but it differed from

ordinary amygdalin

in one crucial aspect. Amygdalin would not do, bcause it is a glucoside

which can be

unlocked only by another enzyme, which does not exist in selectively

higher concentrations

in cancer cells.

As I understand it the young Israeli researcher and his colleagues have

made the true Laetrile.

Now, the article from Penthouse, from which the above was taken, was a bad

photo copy, and I couldn't get much more from the article. If anyone out

there should have access to this article I would be very pleased to have a

copy. It appears that this true Laetrile does wrok for cancer.

Many thanks for your help.

,

Is any of this true laetrile available for purchase on the internet?  I archived

your article long ago and now find myself in personal need of a laetrile

supplement.  Thanks.
