Guest guest
Sharon - Great ideas, thanks! There ARE different solutions that can be used, so ask for the gentlest one. And be careful if you have hemorrhoids - and as far as the anal irritation, use lots of vaseline or A and D ointment or similar. And/or does anyone have any suggestions for making it easier. I've had two since the band. No problems band related. > My instructions are drinking the gallon of " laxative " the day > before, at a rate of 1 to 2 cups per hour; drink at least 10 cups of > water to prevent dehydration, drink 2 - 4 cups of broth or bullion > AND stay on a clear liquid all day. That sounds like the " Go Litely " where they give you a gallon bottle with powder in the bottom and you fill it with water to make " coolade " . The stuff is very salty and non-yummy, but you can do it. But there are alternatives. One is some oily stuff that you mix with juice or soda and pretty much chug. It is only a glass full. Then you drink quite a lot of water, but at least the bad tasting stuff is done with quickly.. > Am I going to be sitting on the commode all day or am I only > imagining the worst? Maybe I should be thinking this is going to be a quick start on losing more. The prep day you do NOT want to leave the house once you start. Even if you take the day off of work. You will make many trips. You'll be sore at the anus and you'll cramp, sort of like bad flu. But DO IT. No one said it would be fun, but having three family members die of cancer, two in the GI system, it is absolutely trivial compared to the cancer. Be SURE that nothing you drink is colored red, orange, yellow, etc. They won't do it if you do. Just show up, suit up (or un-suit for the occasion), shut up, and follow directions. The procedure itself is really a nothing. -- " It's OK to be a little broken, everybody's broken in this life " Jon Bon Jovi Dan Lester, Boise, Idaho, USA www.riverofdata.com/lapband Banded 4/27/03, Dr. Ortiz, Tijuana Started at 355, at goal in the 210-220 range for almost 4 years Ultimate goal of 195 Tummytuck in Boise and SmartLipo in Tijuana

Guest guest
Thank you one and all for your input. My primary concern was getting that much fluid in in the time allowed. I have contacted the doctor's office and they are now recommending " 2 pills " at noon the day before and then " half of a GoLightly " starting at 5 PM. This may work " better " or drinking that much close to bedtime may be diasterous. I'm not scheduled til Aug. 3, so I guess I have plenty of time to get past the idea and just do it. Watching 5 first degree relatives die and 2 survive after having surgery to remove a portion of the bowel, all as a result of colon cancer, makes skipping the procedure NOT an option. Thanks again. Guest guest
The reason you have to drink so much goylyte is that it is designed to stay in your intestinal track to not only stimulate you to go, but to wash things through. It is not supposed to draw a lot of water into the intestinal track like normal diarrhea would. So replacing fluids isn't as big of an issue. We generally start our goylyte preps at 4pm in the afternoon and if the patient gets the stuff in by 8pm(it is recommended you drink it over 4 hours, it works better that way) then they are usually pretty much cleared by 1 or 2 in the morning so they get a little sleep.    If I were being prepped and my poop was clear, like see through with just a brown tint to it before I fnished drinking the golyte I would stop drinking it. But it does have to be clear or they won't do it. On the other hand, if I reached the AM and my poop wasn't clear I would try a couple of enemas to get clear because like I said, if it isn't clear they won't do it, and I wouldn'tt want to go through the prep anymore times than needed. I would use butt cream also(the stuff used on babies, as a precautionary step.  As bandsters we probably aren't going to have as much to clear out as a normal person would. But that is going to depend on your bowel habits. But this wouldn't be medical advice, just what I would do. Guest guest
Whatever the timetable is, follow it. The times will depend on whether procedure is early morning, late afternoon, etc. Don't worry about it bothering your sleep. If it does, no big deal. You'll sleep during procedure and also will sleep a bunch after someone brings you home from it. You won't poop in your sleep, though the cramps and/or drinking may keep you from having much sleep. dan Saturday, July 18, 2009, 8:41:55 AM, you wrote: > I have contacted the doctor's office and they are now recommending > " 2 pills " at noon the day before and then " half of a GoLightly " > starting at 5 PM. Guest guest
Hi Leeda, The test will probably help put your mind at ease, but the preparation for the test is going to cause symptoms. The decision is yours to make. Guest guest
Hi Everybody, My doctor wants me to do a colonoscopy in the next couple of months. I am approaching 50 and he thinks I should do it as a part of regular routine check up. I am a pretty healthy male with no problem. My question is - how much worth it is? I have read about the side effects of colonoscopy and do not want to do this unless it is really necessary. Please let me know your experience if you have done it. On a second thought, I am thinking of doing colon cleansing. There are lots of colon cleansing product out there but I have no idea which one is better than the other one. If any of you have done this, please let me know which product to use. Thanks a lot. Kazi
Guest guest
Hi Kazi, I was 50 years old and in fine health. I did a routine colonoscopy and they found Colon Cancer Stage III. No history in my family. I would highly recommend it. Guest guest
You should do the colonoscopy! It is no big deal. My mother waited too long and then had colon cancer....which could have been prevented. Colonoscopies save lives!  As long as people will shed the blood of innocent creatures there can be no peace, no liberty, no harmony between people. Guest guest
The presence of CLL should not impact upon the the decision regarding when to do colonoscopy screening, as long as the CLL is under control and not resulting in cytopenias.
