There is a huge epidemic cold/flu going around the US right now. It is a bad cold and cough that lasts about 10 days. Maybe increasing vitamin C and D and eating garlic will help shorten the duration. a Hi Bonnie... Let me first state that I am NOT a doctor or physician of any kind. I'm just a patient. So...now that that is out of the way.... Because LDN boosts the immune system, if could be that your daughter is experiencing a mild Herxheimer reaction to he immune system killing bacteria in her body. Whenever the immune system is fighting infection, the dead bacteria release toxins in the body which have to be dealt with by the liver and kidneys. If there is a mass die off of bacteria the amount of toxins can be substantial and can create flu like symptoms, body aches, coughing, nausea, fever, etc.... Your daughter may have had a candida yeast overgrowth and her immune system is dealing with it. Make sure she drinks lots of water/fluids. I have been on LDN for 3 weeks now. After my first week, there was a period of 2 days where I felt as though I had been run over by a mac truck. The body aches I had were identical to what i suffer from when I'm fighting a case of the flu. Lasted for about 2 days and then I felt better. Hope that helps a little. - Ken I have a question for you knowledgeable ldn?ers. I started my 23 year old daughter who has RA on LDN approx 2 weeks ago. She doesn?t usually get sick, however right after she started the ldn she got a cold and it doesn?t seem to want to go away. From what I understood , ldn raises the immune system, any idea why this would happen? Bonnie Add more friends to your messenger and enjoy! Invite them now. Guest guest
Bonnie, If your daughter has managed to contract the bug that is going around it appears to want to hang on for a while. I know many folks young and old who have battled this bug for anywhere from a week to a month with multiple trips to the doctor and for a few, the hospital. It's a pretty tough bug! I hope your daughter gets to feeling better soon! Guest guest
I've noticed the same thing. I am 28 and taking LDN for systemic lupus. While my lupus was flaring - for 2 years - I did not get the cold/flu, but had multiple other symptoms. Before I flared I was sick ALL the time. Now my lupus is in remission and I have had the flu a month and a half ago and a cold this week. The cold is mild - and the flu lasted about 5 days. The flu was not pleasant but did not result in antibiotics. I'm not sure if this cold will result in antibiotics, but have increased C, A, and other vitamin uptake along with fluids. It's very strange, but perhaps not a bad thing altogether. I would prefer a cold to lupus. Cami
Guest guest
There is a phenomenon that happens to some people that as the immune system is shifting (usually from T2 to T1) right after starting LDN, the immune system drops and people get an infection, cold, flu, cold sore, etc. which is usually short lived. Candida tends to overgrow or a virus will flare up. These infections are usually short-lived unless something needs treatment. As usual, I need to emphasize that seldom is LDN a stand-alone treatment, but accompanies other strategies their body needs, especially a healthy diet. These setbacks usually do not last long unless something like a yeast infection is stubborn without specific treatment. Guest guest
I've been on LDN for a year now, dealt with Candida overgrowth and no longer register as having a problem after a lot of treatment. I just started getting colds a month and a half ago. My fiance also developed this cold and we know others that have this bug - so I'm pretty sure it's just a cold. Should I be worried that things are starting to work less? I wasn't until this post because my lupus is still in remission. Guest guest
Regina, It regulates the immune system - not necessarily always up or always down. PS Not a good idea to advertise personal details such as address, phone number on an open forum!! Regina wrote: > > , > > Hi. I am not yet started taking LDN. Guest guest
Does anyone know if there is a specific blood test to test how strong your immune system is?
Guest guest
> > Does anyone know if there is a specific blood test to test how strong > your immune system is? Our oncologist who specialises in integrative medicine tested these for Immune Activity: - (T/B) T cell (%) - over 60% normal - T cell number - over 2500 /ul normal - PHA Lym (PHA+/ Cont.) - SI (Stimul. Index) - over 250 normal - NK cell activity - over 50% normal - Blood vitamin A - 100 ug/dl Not sure if he includes the vitamin A in the immune activity results. I guess probably not. But low vitamin A he believes to be very important to rectify for cancer treatment. Complete data sheet of all the tests he does is here: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1618898/Dr-Kobayashi-TMCA-test-results-sheet.\ pdf
Guest guest
Yeah that's what I was trying to get at. I guess colloidal silver is an " immune enancer " by that measure too. I think it is an unfortunate term to use because it is obviously confusing people. all good, Duncan > > We've already had a discussion on the immune system before. Guest guest
Aren't you the same person a while back who was complaining the forum didn't provide the answers you were looking for (krill oil), then surmised you would have to google it yourself, which is what you should have done in the first place to spare us another flippant comment. My apologies for the run-on sentence elaine > >>>>> We've already had a discussion on the immune system before.
