I di have a question for you (and possible this could be set up in a poll), did you get a flu shot? Last year I was Vaccinated for the flu and not pneumonia and got double (viral Pneumonia) and not the flu. So I was again caution and got both vaccines as did my 8 and 4 1/2 year old. I was great until week before last I got terrible joint pain in my knees, so bad I could hardly sit or stand without assistance. Then, by Wednesday I had fever chills...the whole nine yards. Went straight to my internist who then advised me to stop Enbrel, MTX and started my on 20 days (yes 20 days of Tequin) and 5 of Tamiflu. I am through day 4 of Tamiflu and the Tequin and am much, much, much better. I am glad that I had my Christmas shopping except for some stocking stuffers done. Quickly, let me close by saying I have distance myself a bit from this board for about 7 months now. With the back surgery and couple of other hospital stays in May and October I felt like I was getting no support. I am back to try again, may be it was me. This board is a wealth of educational info and such, but mostly I think it should be a safe, comfortable, & nonjudgmental place were we can laugh, cry, get angry & get/be depressed about PA with those who know better than our closes family and friend what we are experiencing. We need one another. Thanks to this board I has made a life long friendship with someone who is 1000 miles away. We talk on the phone weekly if not more. , thank you for listening to the venting, crying, medical mishaps, pharmaceutical advice, aches, and pain. For sharing the triumphs and the sadness' of the last year with me. You are a gift I never knew I could find in a forum such as this. To all, I have missed the board and will lurk in a bit more often. Happy holiday season to you and yours. Merry Christmas and a happy new year! Hickory, NC PS- I do have a name and E-mail change which I think I change on the site Ed. Note Hi Welcome back. I wish we had all been more attentive during your time of need. So many different things going on with the message board at any given point in time it's going to happen occasionally that a matter doesnt get due attention. Hopefully the net result of this message board is the realisation of a loving and concerned group of friends sharing a common goal of comfort and acceptance. As with any other social group there are going to be moments when feathers are ruffled and thats the times when understanding and forgiveness are most valuable. I think I get your meaning of " nonjudgemental " that you mentioned and thought I would say a bit on that. There are times when carrying out the duty of approving messages to be allowed on the board that I am torn between the desire to let a person speak whatever is on their mind and the responsibility of maintaining the general discussion " on-topic " There have at times been tempers over what should be allowed and what shouldnt and someone ultimately has to make the decision to try to maintain the peace as best possible. Fortunately those situations have been rare. Though at times I have been on the receiving end of a rejected mail I will dust myself off and get right back on board having heeded the caution to " not go there " . I hope that you will never again feel like you arent a valuable and appreciated member of our society and that you feel absolutely free to kick in your thoughts for the betterment of us all. Guest guest
Dear Carol, I know what you mean. Somehow I got the same flu last week and was hoping to die, but didn't have enough energy left I guess. The good thing was I got on Compazine for the nausea due to the fact the arthritis has totally destroyed my right jaw joint. So vomiting is out of the question unless I want to spend days in the ER trying to get it unlocked and out of horrible pain. It didn't take it away totally, but kept me from being really sick. I was so weak and tired and sore it was unreal. When I did finally recover, after about 6 days the PA hit with a vengeance. I think because I couldn't take many of my regular pain meds or anything set off my stomach again. I can sure see how so many people have passed away with this flu. My daughter slept with me every night since I was too weak to walk to the bathroom or get ice chips or whatever. She kept washing her hands and I think that saved her. So far I'm the only one to get it and I pray no one else does. You are right, this flu isn't to be messed around with. Go to the doctor or get some medication as soon as possible. I'm so sorry for your grandson. It's so hard when little children are sick. You must be a very good grandmother. Take care and lets hope our families are done with the flu for the next few decades. Sincerely, Fran in Florida PS I didn't have a flu shot this year due to being put on Enbrel around the same time and then having all sorts of complications from Enbrel. My doctor said the really bad strain doesn't have a vaccination yet though. ----Original Message----- From: Dandcmayer@... His temp was going from 99 to 104 in 30 minutes - thank God he did not have seizures - it was really scary. I cared for him for 7 days while his parents worked and went to business holiday events (yes I know- but what can you do??????????????) Anyway - he is fine and ready for Christmas - I got the flu on Thursday # & $*%()@ - and YES it truly is as bad as everyone says it is, I don't think I have ever felt so very sick and am still sick. Please, Please, Please do not be a brave soldier, if you know you are going to be around someone who has the flu - wear a mask - wash your hands - take precautions. AND I did have a flu shot this year. I still have the head and chest congestion, and will probably not be able to drive to see my other Grandchildren because of this. I know I am sounding Cranky - but it is a very bad flu this year - Don't take a chance. Happy Holidays - Love to all of you! Carol M. Guest guest
Oh Carol, sorry you are so sick. I already took the chance and it is too late to undo it. Yesterday my son's girlfriend's 2 1/2 year old daughter was really clingy and I held her for 2 hours and it became obvious she is sick, fever and listless.......I am afraid I will get it from her. I hope you feel better in time for Christmas.
