Guest guest
I think naps are proven beneficial for normal people--let alone those with chronic pain. I treasure naps and take them often. Sometimes it is just an escape from pain or stress, and sometimes I am really tired. All I know is that it feels like I am pampering myself and I love it. My summer is full of them as I am not teaching. I can also get out of bed easier to work in the garden before it gets hot if I know a nap is a possibility later on! Ks Di [Ed. Note: I just woke up from a 12 hour " nap " myself Ks Di (from 12 noon till midnight), and I fully agree with you. :-) Ron] [ ] Long naps > Just woke up from a 1 1/2 hour nap -- I know how you feel, Jackie. > Sometimes I feel like I've been hit by a semi afterward too. > > I feel guilty, too, because I am usually on the couch with a book or > puzzle and he is puttering around the house or out golfing. I'm a preschool special ed teacher (off for 8 weeks right now), and when I'm working, I have to come home after school each day and take a 2 hour nap just to get through the rest of the evening. I still go to bed at 9:00 or 10:00 even after a nap. Is this pretty typical of people with PA? I'm just now trying to figure out if all my symptoms are all from the PA, or if I've got more things that need to be checked out. I also have reflux, a hiatal hernia, depression, anxiety, migraines, and high blood pressure. I'm on a handful of pills every day, plus Methotrexate injections. I've also had some neurological type symptoms that look like MS, but none of the testing shows it so far. I feel guilty a lot too, because my family doesn't get a home cooked meal much any more because I'm so tired after work. My 17 year old son has been doing a lot of cooking for me. Sorry this is so long.....thanks for the response. It's nice to have someone to talk to about this. Jackie

My husband is a gem and really is sympathetic to all I go through-- probably because he was with me when I was first diagnosed. Even so, the guilt is there, and I have noticed that it is a major part of the threads -- supportive spouse/friends or not. I try not to complain, but sometimes the sheer frustration builds up. I used to love to cook, but like you I had to give much of it up. Now I try to plan ahead and cook in shifts so I don't tire so much. I have the veggies, olives, and other salad ingredients chopped up in advance (about a week's worth) and the Romaine in a towel so that all I have to do for salads is tear the lettuce and toss all the other stuff in. If the recipe requires chopped onions or celery, I have it all ready hours in advance. I also have a stool that I use when chopping and performing tasks that allow me to be in one place. A real help. I does help to be retired-- even a few years earlier than I had planned. When I was working I couldn't do a thing -- and my heart goes out to the young parents with this!!
