Hi! I'm 49, male, 6 ft tall and have been experiencing PA for about

12 years now.

Of course I'm one of the fraction of a percent of a fraction of a

percent that was totally disabled by this dreaded disease. The pain

was so severe that I lost the will to live and attempted suicide

twice. My wife and kids turned on me and my friends deserted me. I

was all alone in a house full of people, who deeply resented me

because I was physically weak and dependent on them.

So yes I did give up. And when I failed for the second time

(actually almost funny in a way, I tried to throw myself into moving

traffic, but the pain made me so slow that all of the vehicles

could dodge me easily),I made up my mind to try something new.

I've grown from this experience. I now have what I always wanted; a

college degree in music. I freelance, teach, study. I have new more

reliable friends, who have never deserted me in a pinch. My family

has seen come back to me...But the most important thing is that I am

now completely pain free! Enbrel is incredibly effective for my

condition. I have a wonderful challenging life now.

Please everyone, please.

It is interesting how your experience parallels mine I am also a 49 year

old married man with PA. Enbrel has been a miracle for me. I am currently

back at the University amending my technical degree to be a teacher. I had

to retire from my previous career because of my hands.

It's difficult to be back in school with what I see as children. I also

juggle an 8 year old daughter and a professional wife who, although

generally sympathetic, does not completely understand. She has her own set

of issues like chronic Fibromyalgia.

May we both transcend the college experience and be able to apply our

degrees despite the disease. I am concerned with the stress of taking a

full load of classes and how it may affect my PA.
