re: preexisting conditions

I know my husband changed companies during my 7th month of pregnancy

with Lexi. Of course, he knew where he was going and the insurance

company they used as well. I had called to find out if they would

cover the remainder of my pregnancy and delivery, because some

insurance companies will not cover the remainder of a pregnancy and

consider it preexisiting. Luckily, the new insurance did cover it and

he didn't have to hold off on starting there until I delivered.

I don't know if there are set laws pertaining to " preexisiting " , as

much as it is some companies consider one thing preexisting and

another company may not consider it preexisiting. If he is looking at

a few different companies to work for, perhaps you could call their

Human Resources dept and find out who they use as their insurance

provider and call them and get the info. Even though in Gabi's case

it is congenital, they might give partial benefits for her procedures

and treatments, or even worst case, up your premiums to have her

carried on it. Sorry that isn't much help, but trying to find out

some of the companies he is looking at and their insurance companies

may help. All you could really do is call them and find out what kind

of coverage, if any they will give her. If you have the funds

available to consult with an attorney who may be able to help you

with some suggestions if you run into roadblocks down the road if he

does change jobs, is another idea. This is why I absolutely hate

insurance companies, because alot of the times the ones who really

need it are the ones that have to fight for benefits. I won't get on

that soapbox though!!
