Guest guest
Just wondering how many people here have developed Asthma after using methotrexate? I know it is an awesome drug for most of you, but I am curious if it did to anyone else what it did to me. I had to go to the emergency room again because I couldnt breathe, and it all dates back to the MTX, and I am told I will have the asthma for life. Thanks for any answers Debba
Guest guest
Hi Debba, I've only been on MTX a short time 2.5 years, but no hint of asthma for me. Stay Well,
Guest guest
Dear Debba, I already had asthma for many years when they put me on MTX. I was only able to take it about 10 days and my breathing went down hill. I've found that many of the arthritis drugs on the market seem to set me off and cause lung problems. The funny thing is I've never had any reaction to aspirin or " the old " arthritis drugs. I know MTX isn't that new, but I think of it more in line with the stronger ones like Enbrel, Humira and the rest of them. I was lucky and in about 2 weeks I got my breathing straightened out. The one that nearly killed me with my lungs reacting badly was Humira. So be really careful if they suggest that one. It took me 3 months of being on extremely high doses of prednisone to get back to " normal " what ever that this these days..lol. I'm currently taking Arava and so far it hasn't seemed to give me too much trouble. I was worried though because it is also known for triggering lung problems. I'm sure you are really frustrated that this drug left you with another major problem. The good thing about asthma is most of the time it can be controlled. Have you seen a good lung specialist? Sometimes that can make a real difference. Also I've know people who developed asthma later in life and a lot of time they are stuck with it forever, but I've also seem them where the asthma goes away as mysteriously as it came. I hope you are one of the last group. Take care and if I can help in anyway let me know.
